I have the same bike, same rims, 2.4 tyre (as wide as they come). I don't have any issues, and throw them around quite a bit. Sounds to me like a faulty rim or tyre.

If you shop around you can get a 2012 Momsen 329 for 8k. Beats both those bikes on specs...

Also did the 42km. One of the most challenging races in the area. Great fun though. Needed some guts for some of those downhills, boy!
