  1. Sorry. To follow 'Dale's example. And to be nice. Better?
  2. You may well be right. I will do my part by not being a d*ck on my bike. I invite others to join me.
  3. To follow 'Dale's example and to be nice.
  4. I will not deny the considerable and widespread resistance from many motorists towards cyclists in general. Bizarrely, my wife often expresses anti-cyclist sentiment (well, to me when I am in the car with her), but I think her attitude arises out of a feeling of insecurity and fear caused by cyclists eg. aggressive riding on the narrow Bantry Bay roads, etc. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that may cyclists act aggressively towards women drivers, for example slapping the roof of the vehicle when they slow down to turn thereby messing that all important training ride. This has happened to my wife many time before and I have witnessed it personally with others while I am out cycling. I think that a petition or demonstration will cause a backlash from the very people we would seek to appease. It is often better to change perceptions through example than through confrontation. Blend and flow. Cyclists, particularly race snake roadies, are by definition A type personalities so you are going to get a high percentage of anal wombats.
  5. I tend to think that the public in general would be able to correctly view this as an isolated incident concerning the parties involved. The antipathy of many motorists towards cyclists in general did not arise out of this incident although many may throw it out as justification for their erroneous views. I also think we should pick our battles. There are many important issues such as road accidents, hijackings and rider safety. At public demonstration or petition on this issue will merely bring it to the forefront when most people (ie. motorists) have already forgotten about it. It leaves a bad taste, but its best to move on. We should also avoid trying to force others to do what we as a collective view as right. We should not force the Club to do anything. The Club reputation will be tarnished for a long time through their association with these people and their inaction.
  6. It is as simple as the prosecutor advising the Magistrate that the charges are withdrawn and requesting that the matter be removed from the roll. There would be no application of the juristic mind.

    Hunting season has just opened...
  8. ^_^ If you feel strongly about it, you can always ask the NPA for a certificate nolle prosequi and prosecute them yourself. ...but you might need a lawyer for that ...and its going to cost you
  9. To repeat: "...the decision to prosecute or not lies with the State. Its likely..."
  10. No. This was a criminal matter. The decision to prosecute or not lies with the State. Its likely that the complainant was paid a sum of money conditional upon him "withdrawing" the charges. The prosecutor would have lost his/her "appetite" to prosecute with a non-cooperative complainant. End of story. The rest is just noise.
  11. You are trying too hard.
  12. Piqued my interest.
  13. Glad you are okay, Vetseun. While it may be difficult to lay a charge with the SAPS if you do not have a name or a vehicle registration number, it may still be worth the effort as there may be other charges pending against her. Drunk drivers tend to be repeat offenders. A description of the vehicle or driver in other pending matters might help with identification. We would all be a lot safer if we can get people like her off the road.
  14. If it becomes known that cyclists are carrying firearms we all become targets.
  15. I am not anti-firearm and I fully support defending your family by any means. I find the braggadocio and fear mongering objectionable. My experience is that the people that truly have skills tend not to discuss it in public.
  16. Who are these damn pesky armchair lawyers? I see three lawyers and a candidate attorney who might log on later if his principal lets him go home.
  17. Something you have been guilty of since the very first post. We are debating Malcolm's situation and what happens on the trails. You came here to act windgat and to name drop (poor Nel has met more people than he knows lately) and to drop innuendo and suggestion. Your CV will not change my views.
  18. And I have no doubt that possession of an unlicensed firearm will be added to the charge sheet in time. They are not going anywhere soon.
  19. I would feel safer on the trails with guys like Malcolm, than armed cyclists who have been mentally enacting confrontational situations and preparing themselves to "engage multiple perps" whether or not their belief in their abilities is real or not. That is FUBAR just waiting to happen.
  20. I know you are not a member of the police. You told us what you do and who you do it for before. My reference to Marikana is for purposes of example, not to suggest that you work for the SAPS. As I recall you believed the SAPS members were intimidated by your SS credentials. I agree that we all have our opinions on what to do and what not to do, but I differ in that I believe that society always judges what is right and wrong.
  21. The mantra of the Evil Empire you serve: Rather a killer than a victim.
  22. A clear case of a little knowledge of the law is a dangerous thing. I wouldn't bet on you being acquitted on a murder charge on the footage I saw. All the SAPS members at Marikana probably thought the same way you do. Malcolm correctly did what the proverbial reasonable man would have done in the circumstances, an act that in my view shows greater courage. It was not a decision made on ego. The example you used in another post of the family being attacked in their home is an entirely different situation and you should be able to distinguish between the two yourself.
