  1. Rumour is that they wish to sell, but who has a spare billion and change lying around.
  2. The Van der Stels' dusty piles currently known as Groot Constantia and Vergelegen?
  3. I have also found that chunks break off the soles, but excellent shoes otherwise.

    Rugby...

Who is Tony Ehrenreich? He seems upset about something.
  5. Not quite Somerset West, but Geco Cycles at Cape Gate stocks PI. I have bought a lot of PI kit there.
  6. didn't think that one through, did I?
  7. But an abnormally large mouth. Her orthodontist must have charged by the running metre.
  8. I can't believe.
  9. It's a great idea, but the design needs work. In my experience the units do not fit securely into the bars. The system they have to wedge the units into the bar unwinds over time. I have already lost both units on the trails. Edit: I have no idea of where exactly they fell out or I would go remove them. I hope that they fell far from the trails as those things can be very dangerous to the unsuspecting. Make sure its very secure.
  10. I remember watching The Empire Strikes Back there.
  11. Try find some of our own Eben Sadie's stuff from Priorat.
  12. I think the guys are being pulled in all directions by various interested parties. They need some sleep.
  13. Theo Lane stated in the interview that an aerial inspection revealed that the catchment nets were damaged. Edit: syntax
  14. I heard the same interview. What surprised me was that Theo Lane said they had viewed Chapman's Peak from the helicopter. He stated that they could see that the catchment nets were damaged, but that a on the scene inspection was necessary to determine the degree. In the next breath he stated that Chappies was safe for use. I wondered at the contradiction.
  15. The support on the day has always been phenomenal: families braaing, music blasting, etc. Hopefully the same numbers of spectators will come out for the shortened route, Imagine the entire route with jam-packed, wall-to-wall support. I think that would be a brilliant experience that is unlikely to be repeated again. It would be a good day out irrespective of the distance.
  16. I think the greatest concern would be whether or not the fires are under control/extinguished by Sunday - its a question of smoke inhalation for cyclists and access to flash points by emergency services. The latest and greatest threat at the moment would probably be the Cape Point fire.
  17. I am really failing to see the disrespect. If the planned route is unsafe or would in any way hamper the emergency services, reroute the ride if possible. If its safe, keep the route as is - we need to acknowledge what has happened and what has been done by so many to protect life, limb and property. It will not be the expected beauty, but one might have a sense of being part of something bigger. It might just be the ride that stands out for many when they recall all the rides they have done.
  18. I like this idea. I would love to ride on Sunday in a jersey like this. Sell it at the Expo and I will buy a few.
  19. In previous years, the erection of scaffolding for television camera's, spectator stands, etc. started on the preceding Wednesday/Thursday. As Slowbee says, the fencing material were on site by Friday and erected late on Saturday, together with the placing of hay bales on dangerous corners such as in Sea Point. Toilets are on site on Friday.
