  1. Hi Colleen, I lived on the tropics for a number of years and found that it helped if I applied sunscreen at least an hour or two before I went outside. In fact I still apply sunscreen after showering and brushing my teeth each morning, 365 days a year. After a early morning ride I would apply another layer for the day.
  2. Hi, my son had an accident awhile back and damaged his Thule righthand side (rear) foot clamp. Thule only sell all four foot clamps and the full KIT. I am hoping someone may have a spare foot clamp (part number 754/480) and the rubber seat/bumper (part number 328 KIT 1812). I am willing to pay for the clamp and bumper. Many thanks IMG_0652.HEIC IMG_0653.HEIC IMG_0654.HEIC IMG_0655.HEIC
  3. These are the ones but any old style slotted cleat will work.
  4. IMHO, between R2,000 to R2,500
  5. I agree totally with you Jan. This requires SA motorists and cyclists use EQ when we know that commodity is unfortunately sadly absent.
  6. Both I would guess based upon my experience and conversations with cycling friends in CT. My wife and I ride through Sandton/Johannesburg often through the month, mainly early mornings before the traffic and have never felt unsafe. I was robbed on the Spruit a few weeks ago so I would not recommend you use a MTB or gravel bike along the route without having some first hand knowledge from a reliable source as to where the hotspots are. There are a couple of cyclists that travel north along Rivonia Road in the mornings (I normally travel south) and you will encounter riders in Bryanston all the time. You need to be more careful on the return trip due to traffic.
  7. I too live in Rivonia and second what Roneblack46 suggested. We often use these routes over the weekend at these times and recommend you use bright lights until you start the ride at Engen. Watch out at traffic lights and stop streets as the majority of motor vehicles don't obey the law, especially as you speed along the downhills and travel through the crossings. As safe, if not safer than Cape Town.
  8. Quick update. I have found a NOS pair of ST5500/ST6500 and hope to have stock of reproduction hoods available from mid October! DM to place an order.
  9. To give you an idea of what I need these for: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/vintage-components/612493/reproduction-brake-lever-hoods
  10. Hi all I am looking for a pair of ST5500 or ST6500 hoods, or "bracket covers" as Shimano call them. Looking to find a new old stock pair to buy or borrow in order to make a mould and cast reproduction hoods. These are like hens teeth but someone must have a pair or know of someone who knows someone. Thanks
  11. Anyone know if it is possible to ride to the Fourways market via John Road Buccleuch? https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/John+St,+Buccleuch,+Sandton,+2090/@-26.057597,28.1159931,16z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x1e956d7f70ac26ed:0x8b8db2f5c4412e1f!8m2!3d-26.0529754!4d28.1163364!16s%2Fg%2F1vrtx71l?entry=ttu
  12. I recently acquired a pair of firecrest 202's and replaced my old carbon brake pads with Zipp's cork pads. IMHO the wheels brake better than my Hyperon's but I am yet to experience them in a heavy downpour. It has taken me a number of rides to start getting used to the Zipp freehub sound when coasting having gotten so addicted to the Campagnolo sound. Probably similar to riding another bike after owning a Ducati 748 😛
  13. It is a fallacy that you need to ride with MTB sized tyres for Eroica. I did my first Eroica on 23c (the long route) and didn't suffer any punctures. I now ride on 28c on the back and 25c front. Rather choice a hardy tyre such as older Conti Gator skins with thicker tube filled with some slime.
  14. Nice, Super Thron Decor with the Piu internal rear brake cable routing. Eroica should be on your bucket list as its well worth attending. Don't be put off by the rules and regulations of only pre 87 bikes and equipment.
  15. 179km done and dusted with 2,678m of climbing
  16. The majority of my buyers now use Pudo since PostNet increased their R99 package cost. The service works very well although I find it a bit slower than PostNet. The Courier Guy staff are super friendly much like the PostNet staff and go out of their way to assist. The courier drivers know me so well that if I am not home they pop around a hour or so later. I have never had a problem with damaged parcels. One or two of my buyers had the parcel returned due to them not collecting it within the time limit and have had to repay the cost. They have only themselves to blame. Only problem I seem to always be running out of those moolas!
  17. Post a pic or two mate so we can keep an eye out for you.
  18. The next big thing is going to be full suspension gravel bikes! 😏
  19. I have, whatsapp me on 0730693979
  20. I found a nice use for my Eroica patch after a little roasty on a slippery circle during an early winter ride.
  21. Nice K! You need to bring it out for a ride someday.
  22. I now have Universal reproduction hoods available. Send me a DM or Whatsapp for details. IMG_3150.HEIC
  23. Hi Bearens! As you will be arriving with your bikes you will already have them packed in boxes or specific bike bags. I recommend you look at the option of sending your packaged bikes and kit via a courier to Plett. You can then fly/hire a car/bus from CT to Plett and set up your bikes there. The empty bike boxes/bags can then be couriered back to CT to be used on your return home. You can get online quotes from couriers such as The Courier Guy, BigFoot, etc. Reach out to HeyYou here on the hub. He lives in Plett and may be able to assist you by receiving your bikes, help set up, etc. BuffsVintageBike and Co may be willing to help in CT/Stellenbosch?
  24. Agreed. LS cashmere/merino body warmer over SS vest for colder -1c to 5c rides. Good to 12c-14c when you can zip down. Great for Jhbg rides. Paired with Assos Mille bib tights but they get toasty after 14c. PlanetX crab gloves bought 6 or so years ago two quid are great between -3 to 12c. My missus wears a pair of cotton running gloves beneath hers. We still battle with our toes. All the toecaps I have used only keep the toes warm for the first hour and then the wind gets the better of me. I am convinced the soles of my shoes freeze.
  25. Thank you, I will send you a PM.
