  1. About to deliver this Daccordi SLX for a mate tomorrow when I will attach the RD. The paint work is not entirely my cuppa tea but it was the 80's after all!
  2. Just about to hit the DIBS key when I noticed it was priced in US$'s. Phew that was close!
  3. Completed my early 1980's Alan Carbonio thank you to Heyyou for the Syncro's! 54cm with following parts: - Ambrosio Excellence rims on Campy hubs - NOS Michelin Hi-Lite Supercomp 18c slicks - CdA Record deltas and NOS levers - ITM Millenium stem and 3ttt Mutant bars - Deda bar tape and red Jagwire cables - Miche headset - NOS Elite bottle cage - non retro Super Record crank with Look Keo pedals - Chorus 10spd FD and RD - ITM carbon seatpost in the mail and will probably swap out the Fizik saddle Rides well although I will need to swap out the 10spd cassette for an older 8 or 9spd for the Syncro's to work as they should.
  4. Throw that saddle and post my way! Look forward to having that ride with you at the end of the month (now I need to start training).
  5. I never knew Frank Zappa was into bikes?
  6. Seriously, guys and girls! I am looking for a Colnago track bike size 52 to 55. Anyone know of someone who has one in SA?
  7. I was lucky, I picked up this Master xLight here on the hub a year or so ago. It's a 2011 or 2012 model. I then bought a Bianchi which I stripped for the 10spd Record groupo. NOS ITM Millennium bar and stem with Pathom bottle cages (best value for money). The San Marco Regal carbon saddle's a bit tough on the behind on long rides. My missus loves her C40 and will not let me change her triple crank to match her Chorus groupo. She feels safe having the ability to change down on the steep hills. I also have a mid 80's Super and a Lux Dream, my main ride. The most comfortable bike I have probably ridden. The pics old and I have Scirrocco wheel set with Record groupo.
  8. P.S. We love your garden!
  9. Hey Rolfalps, your C40's twin sister. My wife's ride together with my Master last weekend going to watch some of the 94.7.
  10. Hi Guys & Girls! I have a nice rear hub lying about at home for a track disk wheel. The Mavic disk itself is pretty busted up and I am not keen in patching it up as wheel balancing becomes an issue. Anyone know of someone who would be able to build me a new rear disk?
  11. This is my dream bike. I would love to own a 'Nago track bike but can't seem to find one anywhere. Any 'Nago's sized 53-55cm out there? Top of my NEEDS list followed by a Cinelli.
  12. Hi Quinton. The bike's come out super nice. Love the paint work, especially the complete fading of the lattice toward the middle. You will have to arrange to do the Herald in Feb!
  13. I am running 11spd Super Record compact crank with 11spd chain on 10spd cassette and wheel combo. Works perfectly but I am not running with ergs/STI but down tube shifters and 10spd derailleurs. Also have a spare set of red hoods which I would part with for R600. New, unopened packaging.
  14. Amazing! Please have a word with your uncle and ask him if he can recall more information as to where the bike came from (import). This information may be very valuable in tracing the frame builder. Also, would be interested in the price he paid back then. The Campagnolo Valentino group set is a classic. Although the critics don't like it much compared to the Nuovo Record group, I think it is one of the best classics made by Campy. I have some parts from this group set but still looking for the rest. I am using the front derailleur on one of my Vitus' frames in the interim. It changes beautifully and I love the "laced"effect. Please post a pic of the brake callipers. P.S. Don't part with it, but if you ever do I want first dibs!
  15. Hey Ren8gor, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your post this am. I have a Vitesse track bike which was generously gifted to me by a kind hubber in PE. My bike is a 1959 frame and the paint work has similarly "disintegrated"over time. My frame has a great history having originally been owned and ridden by a Belgium rider who become the 1962 Pursuit World Champion. I am not sure if the Vitesse was the bike used for this title but it has UCI (Union Cycliste Internationace) certified stamps on the frame stating 1st Prix, Championnats du Monde and Pursuit Amateurs 1962. My frame was sold to certain SA riders racing in Europe at the time and then brought into SA where it is alleged to have been sold through a certain bike shop in East London. The hubber who I received the frame from acquired it from the estate of a track cyclist friend who had raced on the frame in the 1960's. I understand one of the previous owners is still alive and lives in the Eastern Cape. I have not managed to establish exactly who built the frame but have tracked it down to having perhaps been built in Belgium. The Vitesse (or VM Sport) brand doesn't seem to have been well known. The frames could have been build and sold through one of the LBS in the 1950-1960's. My frame was built using Reynolds 531 butted tubing and Nervex Professional lugs. BB markings 59c 3064c (degree and second angles I believe) followed by O22 (next 2 small letter) F38. Serial number HC 13 > (or a t) A. Here is a site to check your lugs against http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/components/nervex.html Why I say Belgium origin is the Reynolds decals are all in Belgium language with Verdenmnesteren "World Champion"branding on the top tube. The parts as seen in the pics are not period correct. She rides real well but has a serious steep angles with the pedals overlapping the front wheel by about 10cm! I too would appreciate it if anyone could provide additional information on the Vitesse brand.....................
  16. It certainly looks like an Alan. The rear dropouts and lugs look similar. I don't recall having seen an Alan with an inner top tube brake cable. The one's I have seen all have the cable going through two or three mounts situated on the top of the tube. My Carbonio also has carbon chain stays whilst the example posted has an alu chain stay. Is there any makings on the BB and or fork?
  17. Hi Fixer, that's an impressive collection of bikes with a lot of attention to detail paid in there presentation. Are you going to do the Herald in Feb?
  18. Yes, very interesting. The bike is the actual bike ridden in the TdF in the early 1960's by Federico Bahamontes (1959 TdF winner). Nice to be able pull the brakes and get up close.
  19. Seen in small bike shop outside Toledo, 70's Tour de France bike:
  20. Yep agree but as frame is not a SLX I would get it resprayed and either restored to former glory or turned it into SS or Fixie. At least it gets ridden either way. Heyyou's offer to swap and restore leaves another quality frame for generations to come. Paint jobs are getting expensive and a two or three colour paint job with lettering could set you back R2,500. Single colour shouldn't cost more than R1,000. Reproduced decals can set you back R1,000 if imported. IMHO the bike needs attention and some loving!
  21. Heya maj. The French bottom bracket stumped me as I originally thought it could be a Colner or something similar but looking at Velo Base the frame looks like a Meral - see comments to the original post. Quite useful. Anyway, I don't think the frame started out as fully chromed and was probably chromed a few years back when other non Campagnolo parts were added. The headset looks to be original and this will probably give us the most accurate dating. The frame may even be a Lejuene import (before they were made under licence in SA). The indent on the seat stay giving a clue. Unfortunately I don't know much about French or Belgium frames. Campagnolo Triomphe or Victory were produced in the mid 80's to very early 90's. On the other hand the headset looks much older. Please can you take a couple of close up photos of the headset. Your photos are good by the way.

  23. PS Maj, that's a French 35 bottom bracket thread. Take care when removing as 35 square tapered BB's are very hard to find in SA. It may be a French frame so let us know what numbers are on the BB lug
  24. Hi Maj. Thank you for the kind words. I too can't identify the frame from the photos, which are good by the way. So many frame builders used Campagnolo dropouts. Please can you turn the bike upside down and take a picture of the bottom bracket lug and let us know what the numbers and letters are. We may be able to assist. Also a few pics of the fork crown and seat lug and stays will help. Take Brasso and clean the frame to see if you can remove the rust patches? If the pitting is too deep it would require a re-chrome. Because you live in Botswana the air is dry and it may restore nicely. Campagnolo groupset is Victory or Triomphe. I have a very nice front and rear derailleur to replace the Shimano. The wheel hubs are Record 6spd dating lae 70's early 80's.
  25. She looks great! I am still looking for a seat post for you. Going to Spain for a month from next week and will check eBay for you. What brake set you have on the bike. I can't enlarge without loosing focus on laptop?
