  1. As I have often noted, some cyclists seem to take themselves WAAAAYYYY too seriously. So he sat in this guys' slipstream. As Eldron noted, the ONLY reason I can think of why this would be a problem is in case he braked hard or something (ie safety) and granted this is a potentially biggish reason not to want someone behind you when you are not aware of it. But this guy seemed annoyed to be "doing all the work" so to speak - nothing to do with safety. If someone sits in your slipstream, you cannot see them, cannot feel them, are often (usually) unaware of them. So what's the big deal! You would be no better off on your own (in fact marginally worse off as a rider behind you helps with aerodynamics slightly.) Too many prima donnas around if you ask me!
  2. Yep, but remember, you are seeing the edited version. LOTS of bloopers behind the scenes. Not trying to detract from his amazing videos and skills but just saying - he falls off like the rest of us. Just that he falls off trying to do a level 8 trick whereas most of us fall off doing several levels lower!
  3. I have ridden with 2 straps before. A bit porno but it does the job. Not a problem.
  4. Guys check this site out. Spoke to Ian who was MOST helpful. He had stock and gave me great service: http://www.iqabi.com/contact-us/
  5. Men have been missing the nubbin for generations.
  6. To err is human, to fall on your ass is bovine.

Maybe the flamingos are selling the bike?
  8. Anyone seen or tried this? http://www.integratedtrackers.com/GPSTrack/Spybike.jsp Help you find your bike if it gets stolen! Might be good to get if your bike costs over R15K or so?
  9. Thanks a stack for all the replies! I had a figure of R15k in my mind so that price seems about right.
  10. Stop teasing us and show us the whole bike!! This really is like porn where you get shown "bits and pieces" until finally...when you think the tension cannot get higher...
  11. Hi guys, my brother in law upgraded from his Gary Fisher 26" to a Specialised Epic 29" Anyway, he has offered me his Gary Fisher which is really in superb condition. Problem is, I don't want to be the screwer or the screwee in terms of price! I have looked around online to get an idea on price and there just aren't many of these bikes around. Details are: Year 2009 (Bought new in 2010) for R33K (marked down from R53000) SRAM X0 rear derailleur XTR Cranks XT Front Derailleur Avid Juicy Ultimate Brakes Fox shock (though not sure which one) front and rear DT Swiss rims New tyres replaced mid 2012 at R400 per tyre. Also replaced the entire rear wheel because the bearings on the free wheel hub had worn away - replacement wheel is better quality and paid about R1,500 for it. (Not entirely sure what my BIL means by "wheel" though! In October Dunkeld Cycles replaced the entire top half of the shock and serviced it. Full service done in November this year Bike is in good condition Done a few races but nothing MAJOR and my brother in law really looks after it well. Cleaned after any riding in mud and it is always immaculate What would you say is a fair price for such a bike? Any ideas? If my BIL (Bro in law) and I can agree on a price, THEN I will start getting my hopes up, give it a good solid test and obviously if all is well, upgrade!
  12. Have an option to buy this bike - 2009 model that is in very good condition. I would say it has done maybe 1 stage race and around 10 one day races. Really looks good. Anyone care to venture a fair price? It's a 26" SRAM X0 rear derailleur XTR Cranks XT Front Derailleur Avid Juicy Ultimate Brakes Fox shock (though not sure which one) front and rear DT Swiss rims
  13. Quick thinking on taking those pics and don't feel bad about not confiscating the bike. If the guy had stabbed you, people would have told you you were silly to get involved. You can never please everyone. What you did is brilliant. OP - keep the story going. We want to know what happens. Surely with this evidence you will find this guy?!
  14. My wife gave me one of those LED Lenser head torches. It has a dimmable beam that can be focused. The torch is SUPER bright. She gave it to me in September and I use it maybe twice a week for 20 minutes or so and the batteries are still solid. Super comfortable to wear. LOVE it. Great present. Makes doing chores outside at night a pleasure. I also have those Energiser head torches (got 3 of them!) and they aren't a patch on the LED LENSER. Using those is like trying to work by the light of 5 firefly's taped to your forehead!
  15. Bloody hell - you wouldn't catch my riding at that kind of speed on a bike that looks like it was welded together by my farsighted granny! But it is inspiring - looks like the kind of guy who swims against the flow and manages to be a game changer because of it!

    2012 94.7

Kit all laid out and ready to go. Time to hit the sack!
  17. Just remember to put your frame on a leash when you take it in. Bwahahahaha
  18. Jacques - I will say this again and again. Do NOT underestimate how long it will take you to get to the start. There are HOBS of people. And there is nothing worse than using up all your glycogen reserves cause your heart is hammering cause you are LATE. Aim to be parked by 7.30am. That way you have time to get out, check your bike, put on sunscreen in a relaxed fashion, double check your Gu's etc and just feel ready. It took me about 3 tries to get this side of things right. The start is near Makro Woodmead and you will either have a red of a black number. Cannot remember which is which but you will start on the left or right hand side of Woodmead Drive depending on what colour your number is. Just get in your group and then move in your batche along the road towards the start. Eventually you are at that start line and it's your turn! When the gun goes off, there are usually 3 groups - those that TEAR away and will often exhaust themselves within 50km, those that ride at a brisk pace and those that dawdle. Decide which group you want to be in. If you ride at a brisk pace (that is not faster than where you can still talk to someone - if you are gasping you are riding too hard and payback time will hit you before the finish), you will finish in a good time. The dawdlers are having fun. They will be in the saddle a long time and probably won't be having fun 6 hours later. This is a great race. But remember a few things. It gets *(&^*^ hot out there. Your ass will be in pain. Your neck and shoulders will be aching. Ride in a bunch if you can but if you are in a bunch, behave yourself. Nothing worse than a reckless cretin when you are riding at 40km/hr. If you cannot stay with your bunch, drop off the back and find a bunch that suits your pace better. Try to avoid riding solo, particularly trying to catch a bunch UNLESS they are JUST ahead of you. You will kill yourself and will pay later.
  19. So there I was riding hard when all of a sudden out shot all this white stuff. Tasted yummy though.
  20. Thanks for the update. Sorry it didn't work out 100%. But you are right to focus on the good stuff. I was knocked off my bike by a taxi a while ago. I escaped 100% unharmed except my ego and the &^*^ just drove off which really pee'd me off! Reported it to the cops - his number plate was fake (surprise!). I really simmered for a while but have totally forgotten about it now. (Until I remember when reading a post like yours of course!) Hopefully the little monkey got a big fright and will think twice before doing something as stupid again!
  21. That also seems wrong. Eg me 210 - (18.5-47.037) 210 -(-28.5378) =238bpm
  22. I keep meaning to determine my max HR but frankly, I am scared! I did it once many years ago and it was horrible! I know - I am being a wuss but there it is!
  23. I watched that Marley and Me movie on the weekend. FFS! That dog! Jeez! I do like dogs but I don't think I would have handled that. I would have lost it when he was destroying everything.
