  1. I fitted full XO1 to my bike 4 years ago. I do regular servicing, but have kept the original cassette since the install (done about 25 000km) on it. My shifting was starting to feel off, and there was a noise from the cassette. Yesterday I fitted a new XO1 cassette and an XX1 chain (under the advice of DnD who says the XX1 chain is superior). Went for a ride this morning - shifting was as crisp as the day I got the bike, and basically the only noise I could hear was my tires on the road. I cannot emphasis how good XO1 is. If you have money to burn, go AXS, otherwise XO1.
  2. I used to wear gloves in the event of a fall - they make a huge difference when it comes to road rash. I have ESI chunkies on my MTB, and a top end supacaz tape on my road bike. Have not touched gloves all summer. Not sure how climbing dictates the need for good gloves?
  3. My 830 has been flawless. And I enjoy going to a bike park and repeating a couple of jumps and seeing if I get any better. Gimmick? I like it!
  4. Most Thule outlets should have it. And you need not only use it with Thule racks as it mounts on bike to bike (assuming the spacing on the various bike racks is similar)
  5. I used to load 3 bikes on my Thule platform. The issue was not so much the space on the rack, but rather the shape of the frames and placement of shocks. I could load load 2 bikes in the spaces nearest the car, but could not get the 3rd attachment arm in place. And then I found this - attach this to the 2nd bike, and this holds the 3rd bike in place. Suddenly a 3 bike rack works for 3 bikes. The problem does not sit with Thule (or whatever bike rack you choose), the problem is bike are not designed for the racks. I will get a 2 bike rack again, and use the arm that attaches to 2 bikes
  6. So for Zwift you dont change gears?
  7. Have a look here https://www.easybike.co.za/
  8. Are you reconsidering the 'Dale SE after seeing the cube?
  9. Was this dropping a hint - Trek has a proprietary BB size, so this may also be the reason for the crank not fitting. The 'Dale's cranks may be proprietary, but their BB's are standard
  10. Wow really - what does the comments in the classifieds have to do with this? I ask another hubber a question, to see if I could add some value. Your brainless comment has no place here. If you don't like the the thread regarding comments on classified, just don't read it.
  11. USA specific, or Norther America in general? There is a Canada thread, but it's not very lively (maybe I should contribute more to get some interest)
  12. Remember, the top end bikes are not built for us mortals, they are built for the pros who race and try win. And at that level, a ball hair can be the difference between first and second. So diminishing returns hardly matters to the manufacturer - its all about the win. Luckily for the manufacturers there are incredibly wealthy (and incredibly stupid) mortals who by into unicorn hair, so they can make these frames and have a market for them.
  13. Are we looking at the same bike - I see a HT
  14. I have heard from a reliable source close to Matt that his ftp is crazy high. I have not heard the actual number, but he is strong and deserves a spot pro team overseas. Nico brought a real talent into his Bells Cycling with Matt
  15. Merida-best group set of the lot. And it’s brand new, so no immediate surprises The camber is the older model, it’s heavy and dated.
  16. I was expecting this to come in a new release of the kickr, but I expect a new kickr this year. Guess I’m wrong on two accounts. I think all or at least most other manufacturers use the electric fly wheel, and since it’s on their bike, it seemed the next step
  17. Good call by your bike shop. Maybe the changes weren’t significant enough for dcrainmaker to do a full review, or maybe he has been busy testing other trainers
  18. If there are just complaints, I would not rely on that website. There is much praise for the kickr4 out there. Also, nothing on DCRainmaker (https://www.dcrainmaker.com/), and he normally has these things tested before the models go on sale, so I am not sure on your bike shop gets their info from
  19. The lower interest rates mean a lower return for investors, so while it may (hopefully) stimulate the economy, it doesn't do much in terms of foreigners buying into SA bonds, which is the quickest way to stimulate demand for the ZAR.
  20. Hard to tell. The fact that it previously had a 10speed cassette on does not mean it’s a 10speed free hub. Was there a spacer on the hub with the 10speed cassette. If so, am 11speed cassette will probably work, just remove the spacer
  21. Where's the sense in this - you only get half a fork on the Dale, based on this the Dale should have a lower insurance premium
  22. You cannot look at pricing at a point in time. Maybe Wahoo did hike prices at that point in time. But I think I paid roughly 20k for my gen1 way back when. And each new iteration launched at roughly the same price. So a price increase was inevitable. I dont know what Wahoo's pricing strategy is. Maybe they like to keep price flat, with larger irregular price increases, so they benefit after an increase, and after 4 years they are benefiting significantly less. This allows them to maximise profits when ideas/concepts/tech are new, and as this ages, the consumer benefits as they are not paying more for each year that passes for the same thing. If you not happy, you could always take your life savings, try set up the necessary contacts and distribution channels, and see what you can make of it.
  23. Living in an apartment in Canada, I decided to sell my kickr gen1 and get a core because the core is so quiet. This happened before covid and the rand crash. The rand was in the region of 11 to the Canadian dollar. At that rate of exchange, it would have been cheaper to buy the core in SA and load that in my container. I had no idea this would be the case, and had not looked into it as the idea of changing trainers had not crossed my mind at the time I left SA. So, is wahoo overpriced in SA? I don’t think so. The rand does have an impact, and timing of orders and size of orders can have an impact. I’m guessing garmin carries more stock, so they may not be under pressure to buy when the rand is at a low, whereas wahoo might need to do so
  24. Read, OP has already acquired road shoes - most road shoes are not MTB cleat compatible. So to go with your suggestion he would more than likely need to get another pair of shoes. Your comment may lead to an incorrectly informed decision by the OP
  25. OP has acquired road cycling shoes, so wants road pedals
