  1. All trainers broadcast power and cadence in a single channel now. Wahoo was the last to do this. So the two channels available on the Apple TV is sufficient-1 for the HR and the other for the power and cadence
  2. I did a Rouvy race the one day, I have a 48T in the front and I entered my FTP as 250 just to try it out. I would spin at a cadence of well over 90 on a 12% incline but my avatar would be travelling at 11km/h. The next day I changed the FTP to 390 and I found similar results. I don't think FTP matters in a race - FTP is essential in structured workouts, as these work on a % of FTP. In a race/free ride, it's all about weight and actual power being put out. This is why changing your FTP had no impact in the race
  3. Maybe this can be adopted for commuter bikes, but not for many other bikes. You don't want to compromise frame design for an inefficient gearbox. Also, I highly doubt pro's care about maintenance - when you have mechanics and are sponsored components, maintenance is not a concern. Don't forget bikes are not designed for normal riders, they are designed for the pro's where marginal gains can make up the 1 second that splits a winner from the rest of the field. 12 speed is not obsolete.
  4. I think you got lucky on losing out. I would love to have comments on the ad to discuss a few points: Have a look at the wheels - the older generation Rovals (not as wide and deep as those on the Expert). Also, brakes appear to be Deore which is not standard fit (not going to discuss if this is better than TLs). Possibly some part exchanges by the original seller, justifying the R35k price. And the dealer marking up to a market price for a standard Expert. Problem is Specialized as slashed prices, making the dealers price not very attractive. And 2017 model - no warranty remains, the free brain services gone, so these are costs you would need to carry. Also, consider wear on components. You might have been better off buying new at a small premium. I will happily delete my comments if I am wrong. And I am not blaming the dealer for scrupulous dealings. These are just items that have stood out when I looked at the bike, and would want answered before buying.
  5. Nor does 2x/3x fit on many frames
  6. I see light weight - only one option left to chose from: durable or cheap Which will it be?
  7. I wonder what will be next. SRAM recently released their 12sp road, so I can’t see them looking at 13sp. And there are so many variations of other brand 12sp cassettes, from 9t to 52t. Maybe an eagle v2, with some refinement to the internals, for some ‘shifting enhancements’?
  8. It's the carbon fibre look that inspired the East Rand to layer their cars with this...but in my mind, that's how carbon fibre should look
  9. Am I the only person interpreting 'no more than 20km from place of residence' as a radius perimeter? My view is they want to keep the virus in smaller geographic pockets and not spread from suburb to suburb. So in effect you can cycle as far as you want/like/able to in 2 hours, provided you have stayed within your 20km radius.
  10. Very much so in the import industry. Christian imports all the Kickr products as nothing is made locally. BMW, Ford, Toyota, etc all import certain models not made locally, and export certain model made locally. This import/export arrangement gives them a natural hedge ie receive dollars from export which can be used to pay for imports. This reduces the impact of swings in forex. Unfortunately for Christian to hedge against this will require him taking out hedges which come at a price, and will invariably be past on to consumers. The other challenge is the rand stays constant for months, so hedges are usually a waste. Then suddenly the rand has a wobbly an depreciates significantly over a short time. By then it's too late to take out the hedge. Thereafter the rand gradually strengthens, so during this time hedges are just a waste as they wont be executed. And you never know when the next bomb will hit the rand. It cannot be easy for companies who rely solely on imports.
  11. Didn't they all say that about the RS-1, while at the same time complain about weight and stiffness (or lack thereof) and requiring a special hub? I do believe this may be the best from RS for it's intended purpose
  12. i guess we are going to see epic evo's being fitted with this going forward
  13. maybe some of us expacts can get in on the December action if visiting SA. I will be keeping my eye on entries
  14. Who is going to refund us losses on pensions, providents, investments, etc? Nobody! Sometimes **** happens and everyone loses. It’s not just the epic rides who have lost here. And if they epic went ahead and the disease spread faster; the impact on the global economy and markets will be felt even more
  15. I wonder if this is not take the others teams eye off the ball - there are theories as to what the DAS does, but nobody really knows. And as pointed out by Merc themselves, there are thousands of pieces of new tech/innovation going in their car. And will you reveal your most innovative part of the car in the first week of testing, or save it for later? Are there benefit from DAS - probably. But I think there is something else on their car. Art of deception?
  16. Got to agree - comments in the classified were great. Not only entertaining, but often useful to call a seller out. And not always seller who is trying to be a &*%$, but sometimes a seller gets things wrong, and another hubber might have more details. Happened often with the year models where the seller got it wrong and was picked up by another based on the colour scheme, etc
  17. Potentially...there are definitely more scams happening now than in the past. I would say this is due to increased awareness of the hub, as well as the size (volume and price of the cycling industry). If the focus is on new traders, it will make a huge difference, especially when these people are just 'traders' and not actually contributing to the hub community
  18. Turbo Levo SL S-Works Founder's Edition (limited to 250 bikes) - ZAR 250,000 If they made 300 would the price be ZAR 300,000?
  19. Don’t forget the internet...I know you can use mobile data on your phone/tablet, but when the entire suburb is doing this because their fibre at home is down, the 3/4g connections can get very slow and things like Zwift may struggle. And it gets expensive using mobile data
  20. If I was shipping for a top end trainer, I would say Neo. But, I ended up with the Kickr Core - it is so good it will cater for 95% of the population. I most certainly don't put out >1800W, nor do I need the ability for the trainer to handle inclines greater than 16 degrees. When the Kickr/Neo launch, they were the benchmark for direct drive trainers, and still are, but it was easier to justify their price tags. The difference is there are now cheaper options that are so good they are actually viable. The Kickr Core is not some quick slapped together half baked trainer - the accuracy is right up there, build quality incredible, compatible with everything, has all the various axle types, and is essentially silent.
  21. I know this will add complexity, but maybe worth it in the long run. Added security enhancements can add to the overall value of the site in years to come. It is not possible to create two account types: 1 - an unverified user account: that allows people access to the hub, but without the ability to post any ads 2 - a verified trader account: that only allows verified users to create ads. Verification in the form of submission of photo ID, as well as secondary photo to help reduce the risk of stolen ID's. At least this way once an account has been blocked for dubious/fraudulent trades, that user cannot just create a new account?
  22. Has anyone considered ethics here? Maybe the the carbon repairer in question was approached by the insurance company and asked the following question: 'Can this frame be repaired in a manner that is safe and sound?' I am sure no insurance company will ask a repairer what is best for their client, only whether something can be done. A repairer who lies outright to the insurance just for the financial benefit of the insurance company's client is unethical, and somebody I personally would not want to deal with. From everything said by Bogus and Carbon Ninja, it appears the frame can be repaired in a manner that is safe and sound, so then the carbon repairer in question has answered the insurance company ethically. Whether the approach taken by the insurance company is correct is another question. Kudos to Carbon Ninja and Bogus for their feedback. Another point - surely insurance covers other failures on the frame. So if the manufacturer's warranty is voided due to the repairs, and subsequent replacement/expenditure on the frame is required, this becomes the said insurance company's problem. So they could potentially be setting themselves up for some further costs down the line. But as a consumer, you are still covered.
  23. This is not additional, its how the route runs - cutting it short at bone breaker is not actually allowed...AND, why would you cut it short, the last 10km is the best part
  24. Sometimes good enough is good enough, and sometimes it's not. Eating a McD's burger may fill the spot, but it might not be the best thing for you. Same applies to bibs
  25. Yes, because then when the Shimanos have issues or need a bleed and never feel the same again, they can sell you a new set
