  1. How have you verified that this decline is attributable to other social medias? I can tell you what lead me to being on the hub less-the day the non-cycling related topics were killed off. And I have not replaced that with other social medias. When the economy gets tough (SA is potentially heading that way), the forums may be a great way to sustain traffic, or maybe they are all going to be dead/shut down by then
  2. The truth is there is now one less platform for potential buyers to look to, since we cannot openly discuss these this here anymore. We may be on our way to buying nuts in Mozambique at this rate. It feels like this is treating the symptoms and not the disease. There are a select few bullies here that could be weeded out, not take away the ability to discuss these matters
  3. I do believe BikeHub is a forum, but to an extent run like a classified. I don't see how it can be both. It must either be a forum where community discussion of items being sold is allowed, or it must be a classified without any discussion forums. A report button is no substitute for discussion.
  4. Well if it is truly a mob, then action can and should be taken against the people making up this mob. There used to be penalty points, not sure if that is still the case. Another point is some dealers (not @ACE Cycles per say), who truly deserve the ridicule. No matter how much is spent by these dealers on advertising, this does not give them the right to misrepresent their adverts or to charge prices that are out of line to unsuspecting targets. Unlike cars where there are second hand dealers everywhere, even the less informed can do small bit of legwork and see if the price is fair. Bikes, in their lower volumes and untold number of specifications are harder to price, so a platform where people can discuss these situations is hugely beneficial. As much as we can report suspicious ads, won't it make senses to have an option to report discriminant users? Click 'report user', select 'targeting mu adverts' and then admin can start building a profile of complaints against these users Shutting stuff down is not the answer.
  5. I thought this was an issue in developed countries where people have nothing to complain about, so instead look for things to complain about. Here in Canada you don't abbreviate a person's name, you don't compliment a person (they suggests there is something 'wrong' elsewhere), you don't make jokes/use sarcasm...these things are viewed as micro-bullying. But this seems to be a global issue. What does surprise me is that people are happy to watch movies in which people are bullied/marginalized/victimized/whatever, but that's okay, it's just a movie. But the web is viewed as an extension of real life, so you have to watch what you say on the web, even though most people are using nick names and random pictures for their avatars, and the real in person connections/meet ups with people here are actually very seldom. The world needs to HTFU, I want to call a spade a spade. But the world submits to the minority, not the masses. If someone takes offense to me calling them out for an obscene asking price for a bike, the problem is not with me. Everyone loves to have a go at Specialized each time they launch a new S-Works. People ask what are they smoking, they are crazy, they have lost the plot, buying a motorbike is better, etc. Does Specialized feel bullied/marginalized/victimized/whatever? Is admin going to shut down 'bike release; threads where people have a rant about the price of the bike? I somehow doubt this.
  6. A shorter stem will increase the steering responsiveness . This does not necessarily translated into improved handling
  7. Splitwise seems pretty cool. But I assume you need all parties to consent as to how costs are divided or allocated If a person is a dwis and refuses to accept it, you still can’t get the bills settled properly Unfortunately an app cannot make an honest person out of a dwis
  8. @Morne pretty much sums it up. I view the gesture of me paying as me being a nice guy with a 'don't worry, I got this one attitude'. But so often it is seen as implying something, or a way to control. But then I have also heard the rants about when a guy doesn't pay, especially on the first date. Damn'ed if you do, damn'ed if you dont
  9. You would be correct. I love the quality and comfort of mine. It sits great and doesn’t move around, I don’t need that ‘no dancing monkey’ stuff
  10. Without debating who is right wrong, morally or in principle, the ability to have a meal/drinks and split a bill without worrying exactly who had one is a privilege. Here in Canada a server (waiter/waitress because everything must be gender neutral), brings the card machine and everyone pays for their own. Even when you clearly out on a date, the server asks to split the bill. To make it more shocking, the woman see this as normal. When I’m on a date, bills on me. When I’m out with mates in SA, we would take turns to pay and because everyone is lekker, nobody would go wild when they weren’t on the hook for the bill. This is what makes South Africans lekker, but South Africans also love to *ffff* *ssss* up. Sad!
  11. Asprey does some very nice hydration packs - these should always be up for consideration
  12. Hopefully that is just a bad batch of batteries? Guess time will tell - I got a bike a month ago with XO1 AXS. But my point on discipline remains - many people argue about batteries going flat (not dead) on rides. With the right discipline, this should not be an issue
  13. batteries never snap cycling is a lot about having discipline - you should regularly check cables for obvious wear and replace on occasion, but most people don't. and then that approach flows through to electronic. build up the habbit - every 6 months replace the coin cell in the shifter, every month charge the derailleur battery, and you will be fine
  14. Chances are the 2.4 is too wide for your frame. It may look long a good fit when the bike is standing, but the tyre moves and changes shape as you corner, hit bumps, etc. so the wear was happening not only in the mud, but also under normal riding. The tyre will rub against the stay and wear it down, but it will reach a point where the wear in the frame is enough to not have any further (significant) wear and it should stabilise. Unless the tyre is significantly too big for the frame in which case the wear will happen until the stays integrity is compromised and it may fail Same applies to carbon.
  15. I have run 2.35s on Stan's Flows. These were super close to the frame, and in muddy conditions would result in tub. 2.3s seem fine. Flows have a 29mm rim width (no internal). This also has a bearing on the size of the wheels that you can use.
  16. Or just download it using your phone and just view the activity on the big screen laptop. It’s cloud hosted to can be access across multiple devices
  17. The best approach is to never change anything, but rather buy a new bike with the new measurements, and keep the old bike as is. Then you can visually see your history, and it’s easy to go back if something isn’t working
  18. Scott sent Nino over to compete at The Absa Cape Epic Untamed Africa The Race The Measures All
  19. There are cheaper items that I feel work almost as well. But there are things to lookout for. Goretex is one of them - you know you paying a bucket load of &%$# for that. Then other things start to factor in, such as number of pockets - the waterprooft zippers are expensive, so more pockets makes it more expensive. The leakiest part of items is the seams, so the treatment around the seams is another thing to look out for.
  20. SA is probably not the best target for that bag - the waterproof materials, zips, etc drive prices up significantly. Living in Vancouver where it rains persistently from October to March, and where many people commute for at least an hour one way in the rain, I'm sure they will invest in that. I have an CAD$800 rain coat (shell as they call it here) - I can go through a car wash in that or a JHB thunderstorm and it will not let water in. And $800 is fairly reasonable here for that kind of gear
  21. I see the same/similar thing on my Bontragers. spoke to Trek, they said it happens, not to worry. I have since gone on to ride the tyres till the canvas showed. When I replaced the tyres, I had a good inspection of the inside. No evidence of cracking. There is a strong inner layer which keeps it all together
  22. Haven’t ridden it in roughly 2.5yrs now. But it always felt safe. I used to be on the road early, had to clear the baboons still. On the flats you going at a good speed and can see quite far ahead, and on the climb where you are slower and more at risk, I think it’s too much effort for a bike jacker
  23. I miss that ride. I rode it solo countless times, convinced I would never be bike jacked because nobody is dumb enough to try steal a bike out on that terrain. When I first started riding breedts I used to cruise down to the sheebeen at speeds of up to 75kmh, but as years went by the top speed decreased as the terrain got worse
  24. i though i was having a good year, just on 420 hrs and easily going through the 500 by december
  25. Only ipx4, which isn’t particularly great, and after time it’s likely sweat will get in and ruin these rather get the 75t actives. I think these are ip67, which is considerably better and unlikely that there will be any sweat penetration. The also have anc
