  1. I think sitting slip is acceptable, you don’t need to that close for the benefit. Hanging on for a free ride, that’s a different story as you only have one hand on the bike, but seating position is probably not optimal and it ability to brake compromised
  2. I think you got that video wrong-one was sitting in the slip but still pedaling, the other was hitching a free ride
  3. These threads always end the same-bashing of the established brand because someone had an issue or knows someone who had an issue. The reason there are more issues noted here relating to garmin as opposed to wahoo is more a numbers game. Garmin outsells wahoo in multiples. So the number of issues report on will also be higher. Does garmin have issues-yes. But in recent years they are driving the market a lot more than anyone, which is respectable given the lack of strong opposition. They are not pulling an ANC move. Their devices have more features and innovation than most other devices out there. And they support an ecosystem that is unmatched by other players in the field. And as good as the Apple health ecosystem is, apple really is not playing in the same arena-they play more in a concert hall
  4. I used to run Bontrager Team XR3s on my bike-nice wide 2.3 tyre. Great mileage, very good puncture resistance. Very noisy in the road though, but then again the road is not the intended use. Nobody every comments on the Bontragers in these tyre threads? The likes of Miss Frizz must run various versions of the Bontragers, so they can’t be that ****
  5. Brakes were invented to go faster...it means speed can be managed
  6. I have a DeWalt and Milwaukee 3 module box. One for general tools, one got bike tools and spares. I love them
  7. No, they are hub dependant, so you need to get what is compatible with the hubs
  8. But nobody will appreciate the frame, so if I advertise it here I won’t get the intrinsic value, so I will just rather keep it
  9. I forgot to bring my carbon framed bike indoors the one night when it was raining, it has since corroded, and I can see cracks forming on the welds. The only thing you enumerated through were you emotions, most notably a love for steel bikes, bitterness toward the masses for not buying your steel bike and again you love for steel bikes.
  10. I used to, up until the time I left SA in 2019
  11. I think you are in agreement with me. This thread goes on about people needing to change their mindsets with regard to trail bikes, and rather buy those instead of xc bikes. My point is that people should ride a bike that makes sense for them. As you note, your xc bike makes sense for you, and you enjoy it. Based on that why should you get a trail bike (assuming you can only have one bike). I also pointed out the an xc bike does a great job on those long district (gravel) roads.
  12. I stay active on the hub for the community it offers. Nothing like that over here - the classifieds are all craigslist and fb markets. And there is no community platform. Glad it worked well. Hope you like the upgrade - you can sell some of your parts to defray costs, or hold on to them in case you need them some day. 10sp is not easy to come by
  13. Hopefully someone can help you, else you may want to look at something like this: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/complete-groupsets/452542/dura-ace-10-speed-groupset-beautiful-bargain Keep what you need, sell the rest to defray some of the costs. Yu may even find you are better off upgrading to an 11sp setup - getting these 10sp components is pricey, as they are not generally carried by the shops
  14. Can it hold gravel bikes?
  15. A price point is just a reference point, nothing to do with cheap. And sure, maybe the components don’t add up to more than R4k, but there is so much more than just assembly-think off all the R&D. If it was just R4k to make a trainer, why don’t you start a line, undercut wahoo and be set for life?
  16. At no point did I ever mention cheap. I said same price point.
  17. It is still a biased rant, blatantly calling Wahoo out on quality, and iKambi on service. Before making these accusations, it needs to be verified how many other products are affected by this issue, versus how many other products are general operating without fault. Likewise, how many happy iKambi clients versus unhappy. Most people can make/build/items to a higher level of quality than that is available on the market, but can they do this at the same price point, on scale?
  18. Not quite - they get paid for what they do. So training is part of the job. This tests their mental strength, which is also part of the job.
  19. This is a whole other argument. People in SA don't respect personal space - always has been an issue. Here in Canada, many people walk around without masks. As you approach oncoming walkers, we all move apart (step into the street if necessary) and give each other room. When we wait at a robot for the light to change so we can walk across the road, people are spaced out. I was in SA during December - people throng together, bump into each other in the shops, congregate in middle of walk ways and shopping isles to skinner. So your disappointment in people not wearing a mask should extend to disappoint in people not respecting personal space and giving each other room. You are using poor etiquette to justify a face covering. Sort out the poor behavior, and the mask thing will be less of an issue.
  20. This is honestly a pointless argument of theory vs reality. Eskom is a monopoly - in theory it should make profits, but in reality it doesn't.
  21. Which is my current argument - so be it a mask/buff/gator/face shield, there is something there - its a reminded, an inadvertent barrier, etc I am not saying people are silly for wearing a mask - each to his own. But if you see someone not wearing a mask, don't judge, get angry or worked up - given them an extra meter and let them be
  22. Masks are said the reduce inadvertent contact with your mouth/nose, thereby helping reduce surface spread. There is a lot of literature supporting masks, but there is also a lot of literature disputing the effectiveness. And some countries support make being mandatory in all public places while others do not. So there is still no conclusive outcome
  23. Maybe they got it from touching a surface and then inadvertently touching their mouth/nose. And again, if you avoid touching surfaces, you chances of picking it up from said surfaces is reduced. My comments are based on rules/guidelines here in BC. I’ll trust their leadership over the powers that govern/dictate in SA
  24. Slate me, hate me, tie me to a pole and burn me...there is still not sufficient conclusive evidence masks are helping to curb the spread. More and more people are wearing masks across the world, but the spread is happening faster (pre-the new strain). It only became mandatory to wear a mask in indoor public spaces in British Columbia in November, and that was done to appease the masses who were asking for masks to be mandated. We are allowed to walk the streets freely. The spread is happening much more from surface contact than virally. What a mask/face shield/covering does achieve is the inadvertent touching of it mouth/nose with potentially virus carrying hands. If you want to wear a mask, where a mask. If you want to west a buff, where a buff. If you don’t want to wear a mask, just keep but distance. Better still, just always keep your distance Waterhouse you have a mask/shield/covering or not, and don’t handle things unnecessarily.
  25. with that bottle, i would expect to find it in the cosmetics department of edgars and dischem
