  1. Now postponed to 19th August due to the taxi strike in Cape Town.
  2. I had the exact same problem. The tiny spring behind the pin collapsed and the pin no longer made contact with the battery. After many "fixes" including paper, wire, glue and solder I had to eventually replace the derailleur. I could not find anyone that could repair it. Sorry for the bad news but good luck
  3. Wish that we could still do that. It was such great safe training. Every time I drive past Kyalami I see the track empty and think what a waste.
  4. Go down the N3 to Harrismith.
  5. Not aware of any crime incidents at SBR and often cycle there on my own. Once had an unrepairable puncture and had a long walk and long wait for assistance !
  6. I have done this a few times and going again this year. I have never paid importation or customs duty fees. Check your airline regulations and you will most probably pay for extra baggage or sports goods. A good bike bag makes packing and transport much easier. Evoc for the win here. Note all the tips mentioned in above posts. Get to the airport check in early. Riding in Suisse is great. Drivers are generally civilised and respectful, cycle lanes everywhere and of course the mountain's are beyond words. Enjoy!
  7. YUP, me to. The best riding ever
  8. Yes they were, but despite the early start it still got very hot going up the valley and the last loop. SBR always a good training ride but start early !
  9. OK thanks. Will try at 06.00 tomorrow
  10. Can anyone confirm what time the SBR gates are opening in the morning.
  11. I too have e mails confirming and promising a refund for the non existent tours to the pans. When I actioned this he had the audacity to threaten me with legal action! It is a failing of our government, legal system and society that this type of low life can continue to operate with impunity. There are no words bad enough to describe him and his ilk.
  12. Just do it. Just do it. Just do it. I have just done exactly that. Hired a van, loaded three bikes and spent a week riding and following TDF. Saw all the riders, hurled encouragement until I lost my voice on Alp de Huez, shivered on the top of Col de Galibier, enjoyed and marveled the ride up and down col de croix der fer- what a beautiful ride. The atmosphere and the cycling culture is something to experience. And yes we had croissants and coffee for breakfast in little villages on our rides. Magic. Just do it
  13. Just spent a fair bit purchasing a vehicle from Rola Motor group. I have since noticed Alan Hatherley in a Rola Motors vehicle and now Mariske Strauss receiving sponsorship. Well done to Rola Motor Group. I think the Toyota product range and mountain biking are a great lifestyle combination and I hope that all cyclists will support Rola Motor Group.
  14. Very sad to read this. What an inspirational man. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his wife, family and friends. All my thoughts are with you.
  15. Fingers Crossed in Emmerentia/Linden for one of the best coffees in Jozi. Always consistently good. Also always avoid the "chain" places
  16. This sickens me and is so sad to see. I ride in Northcliff for its quieter roads, and the climbing obviously, although this looks like a main road. Wishing the rider a speedy and full recovery. And why, oh why is it invariably a taxi involved?
  17. Hello Lars, sorry to hear of your experience. Please provide some more detail as to the exact location of this incident.
  18. The Sterkfontein road was closed off and a medical helicopter landed on the road. Appeared to be a serious medical incident as paramedics were administering CPR to presumably a cyclist. Hope the person made it and recovers.
  19. Thanks all. It is as I thought but when a bike shop tells you otherwise ..........
  20. Slightly off topic but assistance from all the knowledgeable people here is appreciated. My bike currently has SRAM Eagle AXS with a 10 x 50 cassette. It is a 2020 model but the latest version is a 10 x 52 cassette. I want to purchase a spare cassette so my question is, is the 10x52 cassette backwards compatible . The SRAM website indicates that it is, but I have also heard that it is not. Don't want to have to replace derailleur or other components. Thanks

Watching Omloop on Tiz Cycling GCN+. Picture OK and commentary good so far. I am getting an intermittent click/beep sound. Any ideas?
