  1. Far more profitable for the Epic to have riders pull out / not make cut-off. Catering for 800 people for 8 days versus planning to start catering for 800 people and taper it down to 400 7 days later.

  2. Not sure if I am at fault. But I'm looking for a specific saddle. It comes up now and then in the classifieds off of someones new bike and they change the saddle. Problem is the saddle is advertised on here as new and at full market price. I query and offer less based on the fact I am not getting any warranties with the product. Am I being unreasonable or not?

  3. This was my 3rd year in a row and it was the best route and ride out of the 3 years. Well done guys! I thinking seeding riders is a must for next year due to the growth of the event. I'm a solid mid-pack rider and within the first 10kms of riding I almost got taken out 3 times by faster riders having absolutely no regard for the safety of people they were over taking. I can only imagine they arrived late to the venue and hence were stuck near the back of the start chute.

  4. I thought it was a fantastic event! The setting was spectacular and Stillwater Sports managed the event extremely well and professionally. I was expecting and easy pedal over the weekend but I struggled out there. The route was far tougher than I anticipated and I was grateful that the water points are well stocked.

  5. So for 2 years I've been relying on the gauge on my pump to set my tyre pressure at 1.9bar rear and 1.6bar front. I weigh 93kg's. Last week I went and bought a digital pressure gauge and according to that; what I thought was 1.9bar is in fact 1.6 bar and my front tyre was not 1.6ar but 1.3bar. Now my question is do I leave it at 1.6 and 1.3 cause I never had any issues or do I change to the correct 1.9 and 1.6 which feels way hard now.

  6. I ordered 6 various pairs. 3 for me and 3 for my wife. Minor victory is the standard 7-11 size fits me perfectly but slightly too big for my wife. I now have 6 awesome pairs. On the downside, I have an unhappy wife asking when smaller sizes will be manufactured.

  7. I downloaded a whole bunch of routes off of endomondo. Some of the routes ended up going over "closed" property because the routes were for races. But they still gave a general idea of where to go. As always with Van Gaalens, unless you ride with someone that has been, chances are you will get lost. Plus side though is you will get lost on some awesome trails. Was there on Sunday and did Concrete strips, Oom Piet and the river back to the parking. Was a great 4hr ride.

  8. My wife and I (In Food Lover's Market kit - Batch E) did our first marathon after starting mountain biking a year ago. Finished in 4:40. Garmin measured an average temp of 32 and max of 39. The route was everything I expected from what I had read. The water points were great and at just the correct distances apart. Thanks to all the volunteers involved cause without them it would not be possible. It grates me a little reading about all the complaints on here with regards to the water points. Without these people, the events wouldn't be possible. The behavior of all the adult competitors was great except for the teenagers doing the 25km. My wife and I almost got taken out by a few of them on the single track just before their turn-off. I had a big smile on my face when I saw the same teenagers on the tar road having to turn around because they missed their turn-off. So if your son was at the front end of the 25km race, please teach them some etiquette.

  9. After only 8 months of mountain biking and no form of fitness training before; I did the 45km in 3:30, and had an absolute blast. It is all rideable apart from the bottlenecks and when riders walk side by side up the hill; forcing you to break and walk. The last 20 odd km's was unbelievable. Can't wait to do the full monster next year.

  10. Apologies for advertising. My wife came down with a nasty cold yesterday and didn't feel any better this morning. She is going to decide this afternoon whether she will make the race. If she can't, there will be a 45km entry available at no cost other costs to substitute if that is possible.

  11. Want to build a SS but can't find a cheapish XL frame... I have a tight budget and don't really have any money for one but want to build one! Want to save my race bike, heavy maintanace! Any one have an old XL frame or a decent bike that I can convert so a SS?

I have a Titan carbon pro XL frame with seatpost and handlebars that I am looking to get rid of. SS build would be great but don't have the space. Let me know if interested.
