  1. it's similar to the strategy of some top Dakar rally riders - riders like Cyril Despres and Marc Coma will push hard only when needed - speed isn't always what's needed, but consistency wins races.
  2. for everyone who participated in the USN Cup series, the final complete race log (pdf) can be downloaded here: http://www.usn.co.za...-2103-R411.html
  3. wow.... some bike porn there for sure! full list here: http://gravityxtremo.com/dh-bikes-2014/
  4. agreed.... Red Bull has placed themselves really well to "promote" these events - Red Bull Joyride is another example. Red Bull coins it large, they should up the prize money on offer!
  5. this sh.. is getting out of hand - what now!? are we just supposed to let these scumbags run around and do as they please - no more safe places to ride and jog?? this has to be dealt with!
  6. did my first ever ride at Modderfontein in the last USN race there.... loved it! will be a pity if they rip it up for a damn mall....
  7. love the Barn. since they started doing little berms in the corners of the single track, it's a blast! also love the big drop-offs - not for the faint-hearted!
  8. my sister, brother-in-law and I cycled a bit in Swaziland last December.... was a great experience, but I got some serious sunburn!
  9. very enjoyable raceday! thanks USN, more races at Moddersfontein will be good in future!!
  10. here's how i have starting times in the last email from USN: Date: Saturday, 26 October 2013 Venue: The Modderfontein Reserve, Modderfontein Start: 50km - 07h30 30km - 08h15 10km - 08h35 kids - 08h40
  11. it's high time we take the law into our own hands.... there, i said it.
  12. no idea Craig. haven't ridden there myself... guess we'll have to see.
  13. i also entered the 30. looking forward to it - last one in the series and all! some info here: http://www.usn.co.za...eries-R398.html and race profiles: http://www.usn.co.za...-2013-R397.html the 50km usually starts off at 7:30.
  14. what!? expect the police to do actual police work? this is the SAPS we're talking about....
  15. i really enjoyed the 20km - just went as fast as i could.... but the wind was hectic at times! the only pain i have with this race is the starting setup.... winding through traffic down past Silver Lakes doesn't work- it's a hell of a safety risk. i saw numerous big suv's weaving through the bikes. imho the organisers should start the race somewhere else - not from a busy parking lot, into a busy single lane road with saturday morning traffic....
  16. starting times according to the flyer: 65km - 8:00 45km - 8:30 20km - 9:00
  17. i'm also in.... my valley, know the terrain well. should be fun!
  18. same here - i know the Barn's single track quite well, nailed that last forest section hard! i love riding at the Barn! i am a bit concerned about the gathering of results at the end - 2 people standing there, writing down the numbers of the riders as they cross? i though the idea of the SAS board is to scan it? what if they miss a rider, or write the number down wrong?
  19. i did that steep downhill section at the Barn in the previous USN race - as i went over the lip i had to throw my weight right back behind the saddle, and as the guys said - feather the brakes, using both front and rear. also, look to where you want to go, and don't lock up the rear wheel, if it starts sliding around you lose traction and control. a golden rule is: daar waar jy kyk, daar ry jy. looking forward to the USN race on the 3rd Aug too!!
  20. i love the Barn - like trail - er - park said - the nice flowing single track is a blast taken at speed. they've made small berms in some of the corners, so keeping the rhythm is easy. there's a new section with big drop-offs that are great fun too. the trail runners are also using the Barn more and more, since the Warrior race is held there, so one has to keep a lookout for runners on the trails at some points.
