  1. Wolwespruit in Pretoria is ideal for enduro. They recently opened a super cool new flow line, fast and doable on any kind of bike, XC or enduro. It's a steep climb back up to the top, but worth it.
  2. I did the Two The Core - Rover Ride weekend before last, and haven't been riding at the reserve in a while. It really has gone downhill (pardon pun). Large parts of the trails were very overgrown. So sad that this reserve is seemingly going to end up in Property Developer hell....
  3. This is the next level - not an e-bike, neither a motorcrosser... but also both. Twist the throttle and you can pedal-assist 80km/h up that hill hey.... https://electrek.co/2019/09/06/ubco-frx1-electric-trail-bike-50-mph/ "The UBCO FRX1 is an electric two-wheeler with functional pedals and a pedal assist system. Technically speaking, that makes it an electric bicycle. But only technically." Right.... Wonder what trail managers will say about a 50kg e-bike tearing up their trails.
  4. Wanted to do it so much this year, but it fell on the same weekend as the Trailseeker Cullinan... too much for the budget and fitness to accomplish in one weekend! Hope next year the events are a bit apart...
  5. Anyone kept up with SyFy's 12 Monkeys? Brilliant show, if you like SF and particularly time-travel stories. Just finished with se04 and the ending was particularly satisfying - the Circle is complete! The show really started getting good halfway through se01 right up until the end of se04. se03 and se04 are outstanding. Great character development, story writing and respect for the original film makes it one of the best SF shows imho. It took the 12 Monkeys premise way beyond the scope of the film, in a fully fleshed-out mythology and added many more complex layers, with a great existentialist undercurrent. The cast are all excellent, and the addition of James Callis and Christopher Lloyd in some episodes, just adds to the quality of this show. It gets 7.7/10 on IMDB. Check out 12 Monkeys - you won't be disappointed!
  6. I see ebikes will be allowed to race on the 40km distance at this year's Norco WTF MTB Challenge 2018 in November. I'll be entering the 40km - they'd better not be shouting "track" at me from an ebike...
  7. Ad in the Makro product advertisement included in the Rekord this week.
  8. I must say, reading all the comments here - I didn't have a negative experience. At registration day, I queried my missing results on saseeding, and they improved my batch, no hassles. I really enjoyed the day out on the 40km. Had my board scanned prior to the start and the system picked it up. Big up to Advendurance for the well-stocked water points - even some mini-pancakes! I was a bit concerned at the muddle/confusion at the finish, but I received my results per sms from Jumpertrax a few hours after the event. The route was well marked with marshals with whistles at key points to make sure everyone stayed on track - good job. Exiting the venue wasn't a problem for me - there was a queue, but it moved at a decent pace and the cops at the main road did a good job, I think. The big issues I think are with SA Seeding - they need to sort that mess out asap. I'm definitely in for the next one.
  9. Hi Dogs There is plenty of parking space at ARC. Registration will no doubt be there too.
  10. Registration Details for Nissan Trailseeker MTB Buffelsdrift: Pre-registration venues for the Nissan TrailSeeker Date: Friday 4 May Times: 10h00 – 17h00 Venues: Pretoria : Lynnwood Cyclery Centurion : Centurion Cyclery Johannesburg : Concept Cyclery Melrose Arch Registration on race day at the venue from 06h00 For new people, note the start is at the ARC Roodeplaat grounds and not at the Buffelsdsrift bike park itself.
  11. Into The Badlands - lekker skop, slash, post-apocalyptic steam-punkish ninja western. Lots of blood and gore too, with a bit of magic thrown in. Star Trek Discovery - looks gorgeous, but I'm beginning to dislike it more and more. I can accept the strange looking Klingons, but it just doesn't feel like Star Trek and frankly, some of the characters are super annoying (nothing against gingers though!) Looking forward to next seasons of 12 Monkeys, The Expanse, Westworld... good stuff.
  12. Maybe this is a good alternative? I've already done a number of events that use them. Mtb and trail running. http://nationaltrailseeding.co.za
  13. Really enjoyed it - weather was great at the start. Luckily had some fast guys in front of me on most single track - we were shredding along nicely! Did the 30km and got drenched only in the last 3km's - after that the 50km guys got really soaked. Great event, not too may riders and well-stocked water points too.
  14. I submitted in August, was selected for audit, first time for me. Needless to say.... they are STILL demanding more documentation. Company I worked for got liquidated a year ago and I've been doing contract work since then - paid my own medical and RA... now they want to know how I funded my RA and medical. Submitted another bunch of docs on Monday. My ex-collegues in the same position. We're seeing the Liquidators tomorrow - ex-employer owes SARS R90K, but tax was deducted from my salary, and SARS is scrutinizing us all now. Real sh***** situation.
  15. Just finished with 12 Monkeys, season 3 - real smart storytelling, if you are into time-travel. Season 3 just about leveled-up with each episode! Can't wait for 2018. Trailer for season 4L 12 MONKEYS | Season 4: Official Trailer | SYFY Currently watching Black Sails - quite good, was shot here in Cape Town. Must say they do lay on the NSFW scenes quite thick. If lots of nookie and explicit nudity puts you off, skip it. Recently finished The Expanse - WOW!! One of the most excellent space opera shows since Battlestar Galactica!! Others on my list: Ray Donovan Westworld Taboo Travelers Netflix's Daredevil and related Marvel TV shows!
  16. Anyone done a Land Rover event before? What is the organisation like on the day? Seems there are no batch starts - just one each for 50, 30 and 10.... going to be interesting. I like Modders, so I've entered. Hope I haven't wasted my money...
  17. New attacks at Klapperkop and Groenkloof.... eish. From Friends of Groenkloof fb page: "We are aware of 4 attacks on Klapperkop during the past week. Two at viewpoint 1 (nearest to the R21) and two at viewpoint 5 (masts). And those are just the ones we are aware of. There have also been incidences at Fountains Circle and Groenkloof suburb. Please be careful." However, seems the DA is taking this seriously. "Shaun Wilkinson DA Robrecht Tryhou As discussed at our meeting with Rob King at Café 41 on 04.01.2017, I am totally committed to the safety and security of all the citizens, residents, tourists etc. that want to enjoy the Tshwane Gateway in the Fountains Valley, Groenkloof Nature Reserve and all the green spaces, public spaces, roads and suburbs. As I indicated to you I am expecting to launch a Security Initiative in Ward 59 in the next few weeks and I believe this will go a long way to combating crime and curbing criminal activity. Furthermore, I was very happy to hear that Rob has a firm commitment from the COT for fencing and the boom gates, gates and guard-houses on Fort Klapperkop and the fact that your association / society; Friends of Groenkloof Nature Reserve, are resolved to assist the COT with the management of the Klapperkop Nature Reserve and the Groenkloof Nature Reserve. Also, please keep me posted on your MOU / MOA that you are negotiating with the city. As offered previously, I wish to re-itterate, that I am totally committed to supporting your efforts as a "Friends of..." organisation. Let's keep up the energy and to kickstart these interventions and initiatives, taking into account all of our re-newed energy and vigour, I extend an invitation to the; Friends of Groenkloof Nature Reserve to a clean-up campaign at the Fountains Circle this coming weekend 15.01.2017 We will start at the entrance of the TUKS Groenkloof Campus and finish at the Fountains Circle, SE corner, where a lot of the alleged criminal activity in the area is launched from. Hope to see you and the friends and ALL other concerned and active-citizens there." https://web.facebook.com/FriendsofGroenkloofNatureReserve/posts/1173796472655611
  18. We ride there often, from Hazeldean Centre, all the way to the Boschkop turn-off, there is a wide dirt shoulder - plenty of room to stay far away from the tar. Never had any safety issues.
  19. So is it safe to ride at Groenkloof?
  20. Unfortunately for us peeps who buy bikes and stuff.... we'll still be paying for this cartel. The Tribunal should've mandated all guilty parties to offer discounts on all their ill gotten gains.... and pay it forward to the cycle buying public. Sadly, that won't happen..... our only recourse is to not support them anymore.
  21. soooooo nice!! that start ramp looks like a bloody mine shaft tower!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7hzxORJThI
  22. I'm frustrated.... I've used Squirt (dry) in dry/dusty conditions - applied as per instuctions - only to find halfway through a Big Red Barn ride - no more lube on chain!!!! I'm beginning to hate that stuff.... I'm trying White Lightning at the moment, but I'm not impressed - my gears are grinding and chain squealing halfway through a ride. I've watched some youtube vids on applying lube, and I do it correctly - apply on inside of chain for three crank revolutions, wipe excess and allow to dry. I degrease and dry my chain after every ride, and apply lube the night before the ride. So why do these lubes not want to stay on my chain, I mean, it should stick for at least 30km's, right? Going to start using my motorbike lube..... fed up with these crappy mtb lubes.
  23. hey cat-i, nice RR! do you know the wilddog.za.net forum? SA's premium adv riding forum. You should share your ride there, they'll appreciate it.
