  1. This might work for you? Jokes aside, I definitely have a bike you can borrow. It might not be a race bike for a sub 3, but I ride it and average decent clicks around the peninsula
  2. But it IS faster than a 650b..... because wheel size is important! I'd hate to know how many people I've beaten on a 20" which must be WAY slower than 29ers 🤭
  3. 'I could buy a KTM enduro bike with all sorts of rocket ship technology for the same price!!!!'
  4. Specialized and a couple of other BIG manufacturers moved their entire operations from China a while ago while Trump was in power. US put all sorts of trade embargos and sanctions on China due to it's political alliances and credit/debt 'purchasing' practices. Taiwan is now the centre for most big brands
  5. HAHAHAHA I am suddenly thrown back to 2014. The wheelsize debate is BACK baby!
  6. I'm not sure where you're going to get one of those, but I'm sure there will be a few knocking about 😝
  7. Hi Sorry, been a bit inundated with life and work. I will pass on all of the details for the plans later this week hopefully. I will definitely be riding CTCT, the Swartberg Gran Fondo and a few other things in the pipeline this year. Busy planning some rad stuff. https://radbag.co.za/ are going to provide me a high quality Bivvy Bag for my roadside naps https://gpm-sports.co.za/cube/ have already provided a HUGE step to the start line financially and I will be meeting Matthias at the Expo to sort out some other equipment There is a potential collaboration with one or two other really awesome suppliers as well, so things are rolling! I am able to ride outside now as my elbow is sufficiently healed. So, if you see a small bearded ape shaped man on a tiny bike in and around Cape Town over the next few months, at CTCT or Swartberg, say hi! We received or Munga Preparation packs on Monday, so things got quite real
  8. I was going to say, not me, but my old running partner developed it and missed 3 months and still wasn't right after trying to come back too early too many times. My advice would be to get to a professional who can have a proper look and give you the right rehab. Sorry, that sucks!
  9. Everybody fighting with everybody! Let it go. This will take some time and most of you will have stopped fighting with each other long before this gets close to court/settlement. I also doubt the actual truth will ever come to light, as the justice system uses a charge grading which the prosecutors will try to prove and the defence will try to create doubt or provide technical irregularities in the process that make that particular charge redundant. The truth is not what goes on trial. We will know the truth if the cyclist and the moto guy sit down and agree what happened. As most of us have no to little skin in the game, the truth is also not ours to demand or defend. While things are heated, keep your heads, be patient on the roads and be nice to each other. I will continue to think cars and bikes that easily exceed the speed limit have no place on our roads. GPS speed limit throttling and a small weiner mindset change. Our road safety is shocking and speed kills. Be safe out there everyone
  10. Why is it legal to ride superbikes on the road? 120kph on the highway and you're still in 3rd gear. Big, powerful machines that only come alive at 180kph to drive on roads with a max speed limit two thirds of that. How is it still a thing? Roads are a serviceway for people to get to and from work and for goods and services to be provided. They should be regulated as such. Having vehicles on the road that can easily violate traffic laws and giving them to idiots who only learn when the fan has already been soiled? The motor industry and government need to figure out what it is they want. These superbikes belong on the track, not the roads. Keep your Harleys and other big loud vehicles as well. A V8 roadster and a Harley pulling up in residential areas is deafening, amazingly inconsiderate and pointless.
  11. No, My question about speeding was more out of interest. Passing anyone on that road is pure idiocy
  12. Does the speed limit only apply to the up? I've ridden over that road hundreds of times but I've not payed much attention to the signage
  13. Can bicycles be caught speeding? Pretty sure I go way faster than 20kph
  14. I mean you can just use them for the race and give them back.
  15. I have some high volume slick 29er tires you can use on those rims Hit me up if you want
  16. Some of the adverts I've seen on here put it at SCRAM
  17. Yeah, the clinging to the past was aimed at cycling in general, not one brand. The cycling fraternity, collectors, governing body etc 29ers will never take Disc Brakes will never be popular Dropper posts weigh too much Dual suss bikes are just too complicated These are but a few of many examples I've seen bandied around on this very website. There are many innovations that we use currently that were shunned - people even openly shunned 1x on their MTB for years!
  18. Just to answer one of these, they most certainly DO have a relevance issue. They have been left behind in terms of OEM offerings. Releasing a modern Centaur at the lower end of their range tried to counter this slightly, but by remaining in Italy/Romania, none of the bikes manufactured in the East (read MOST of them) can afford to use their groupsets. As most car manufacturers will tell you, their supercars and top end sales are amazing, but their low end mass sold stuff is what keeps them in business. I am trolling to a degree, but they most definitely do have a problem. Their own current marketing director has recently admitted that their current business model relies on bike snobs buying into the legacy, while they try to figure out how to get into the OEM market and become more 'accessible'
  19. As somebody with no skin in the game, why is it so important that Koeberg be reopened? There are plenty of other places within a reasonable vicinity. I'm just interested as this drum has been banged by quite a few people and it seems to go nowhere. Who will maintain the trails/roads/paths and be responsible for public safety if it is reopened? I haven't clicked on the petition link. I believe all unknown links to be a rickroll
  20. Clinging to the past is why road bikes have hardly changed for 60 years. The cycling industry, along with cyclists, is way too concerned with 'legacy' and fond memories of yesteryear. Unfortunately a lot of the old 'classic' brands have become irrelevant in the current day marketplace. A lot of it has to do with the fact that they are often Italian or French owned and still run out of the same converted sheep barn because 'authentic', but the reality is that science now allows modern companies to make better bikes. Many of them have failed to make the step from classic to modern, steel to multi layer carbon, and still control that space in the market. Interestingly it might be due to their own fans refusing to modernise.... 'This isn't a REAL Colnago/Basso/Cinelli/Merckx etc' At a similar price point, Campy haven't really done anything 'better' for quite a while. Years and years. They were late to the party with their disc brake stuff and that didn't work as well as their competitors, which is what has seen them get ditched by their last two WT teams, their Ekar was a fail and Now that most bike brands don't build many rim brake options, they are operating on past glories.
  21. ssshhhhh It's not real!
  22. Contact iRide Africa... They have 'new' owners and a fleet of bikes
  23. I had a few iterations and never liked it. The thumbies on the shifters annoyed me. The old vintage stuff worked really well for it's age, but compared to modern bike stuff it isn't exceptional. It just relies on fan boys, cycling passion and a history to remain relevant. The modern stuff isn't better than price point equivalent systems. I had a heap of old chrome stuff that I sold off after my Vintage Steel Colnago Master got stolen. Pitchforks and flame suit on, but unless you're a builder/collector, it's a waste of money, especially in SA where parts have to be sourced and imported
  24. I drove down main road between Muizenberg and Fish Hoek yesterday morning. There was a huge group of really slow moving cars in front of me and they were driving in the middle of the road so I couldn't pass them and NONE of them pulled over to let me pass! They were all going so slowly and I was obviously able to go faster. The cheek
  25. The Spez Sequoia is also brilliant... Depending on the size, I've seen a few being advertised. Otherwise there are a couple of options here; https://www.merlincycles.com/cyclocross-gravel-bike-frames-75278/ and one or two of these; https://www.takealot.com/farr-out-cromoly-steel-gravel-framekit-medium-52cm-grey/PLID72740236?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAt5euBhB9EiwAdkXWO4nqHvaF3Uqp1AP5fo0B8cLJrB4lG20gHki66sb4Q-JBKDqnaVK5uhoCHQgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Otherwise, if the budget is big enough, Chumba make beautiful bike frames. I bought a Velo-Orange and had it shipped via aramex global shopper. I'm of the opinion that one needs to buy a GOOD steel bike for it to be 'better' that other materials. Cheap steel is just heavy and not amazing. Steel for steel sake lands up being expensive and disappointing....
