  1. I understand The ex fashion designer in me always wonders over the use of Blue and Red in sport club colourways. There are entire colour pallets outside of those that would look awesome but it's so often a combination of Blue, Red, White, black and green. Not mocking the current boards or the trails or the committee etc, it is just very representative of MOST clubs/organisations I think those boards are pretty neutral. Luckily you can attach with Velcro straps and remove when off to shred somewhere with some Gnar, because we all know from past discussions that those boards don't open any gates to the gnar! hahahahha
  2. Does it not colour match your favourite socks? 😂
  3. Does it not come down to budget? They would need many many more qualified rangers to fill the extra hours as governmental overtime is quite expensive There is also the case that you're 'not supposed' to be on the mountain after dark. Do I agree with any of the above? No. But as far as man power, mandate and assigned budget go, I can imagine it's a lot more tricky than 'putting more people' in place. The safety aspect of staff is also a concern. We have recently seen Mountain Rescue Volunteers AND rangers being mugged at gun point. We all know it takes 29 years, 36 days, 19 hours and 56 seconds to approve even the slightest change in departmental mandate when dealing with the black hole that is the Pretoria headoffice. This isn't going to somehow change that. (Do I wish it would, yes, but realistically it probably won't) So, like almost every other necessary service, it looks like any actionable solution will need to come from some sort of collaboration with the private sector. This will involve incentive for them to work with the private sector, probably in the form of kick backs and financial misdemeanors just to get a foot in the door to propose a collaboration. From there it will likely involve mountain usage fees etc to generate revenue, so any workable solution that isn't going to take forever to implement will cost the end user money and still probably not be infallible. Am I a doom and gloom person? No, but in this regard I have zero faith in our powers that bee (on purpose) to do anything worthwhile I REALLY hope they prove me wrong
  4. Are you on IG or Facebook? If so, you can DM them on either platform... or both?
  5. So I have this theory about things like this, especially for a self sufficient Boer. Whatever you buy you will make it work. As with anything, buy the best that you can afford and also bear in mind you will likely make practical changes AS YOU PROGRESS through your bike journey. You won't get it 100% correct straight away, but as you learn how the bike works and figure out exactly what you need through lots of time in the saddle, you will figure out what will benefit you best and make changes accordingly. Start, don't overthink it and enjoy the time with the kids. This might work https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/646998/giant-talon-4-small

Yeah! Definitely. But only if people help me get there. I'm definitely not in a position to commit to a 20k financial decision that doesn't involve my family. https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/guy-mckechnie-5775266972112879795 Spare change welcome! I will of course encourage heckling and mocking along the way as is only fitting!

I've done RASA and a few other bits and pieces on a rigid SS, the 20" wheels and size curve add a few extra challenges. Help me get to the start and let's see what an average joe idiot BikeHubber can bring to the party!

My pride says 'definitely not', my brain says 'holy moly that would be amazing!' and my ADHD says 'I am definitely not worthy' The reality is I would love to do it. Just the suggestion is rather humbling IF somehow it happened, you guys would need to decide a charity I can raise some money for too.

Rad! So cheap hopefully someone can buy two and give me one!
  15. This is wisdom. There is also the case of unfinished projects. I have an entire shed and spare bedroom full of unfinished projects. Stuff I spent money on, started and then bought the finished product anyway. There is, however, a difference in whether YOU are making something or paying someone to manufacture. Having something made is not the same as making it yourself and that is usually where the cost comes in.
  16. I am in agreement with @-cK- and @NotSoBigBen I'd not print them. As a tinkerer and builder of things I would be tempted to make them out of Carbon IF they were something I'd want. Luckily they aren't
  17. My understanding is that are merely spacers, like a headset spacer. You simply use longer bolts to fit everything together. Have a look on the Munga thread and you will see the super high 'aero' bar setups which use these

I went away and did some work and all hell broke loose on this thread! (Never done Munga - too poor - have ridden a bike a few times and done some jogging and other sports)

Very much so. It's a gentle balancing act of staying in the wheels and burning slightly too many matches to stay in the wheels. I guess we will see if it's a comfortable pace for her or if it's a couple of RPM too high. KM 800 to 1000 can suddenly seem a VERY long way to go if you're alone and you've blown Pretty fun watching the racing
  20. I hate to be a negative nancy, but there is more chance of SA creating jobs and paying a living wage to eradicate the need for so much criminal activity than there is of most of this theorized solution. Until this country can figure out a way to eliminate poverty, create jobs and supply proper housing AND breed out the criminal/gang mindset, there will be excessive crime. The criminals will always be ahead of the game as those implementing the laws, systems and plans aren't paid enough NOT to supply the information for a small fee/cut. As an avid mountain user it sucks. But that's how I view it. Criminality is unfortunately what this country was founded on. Whether it's been stealing people's dignity, freedom, equality, money or possessions, it is ingrained in our history
  21. Ok.. I remember those. I haven't seen one specced on anything newer than 1999!
  22. Could you perhaps elaborate on the difference? I am not sure what you're asking as I regard them as the same thing.

For sure. I don't mean 'instead of bottle', but as an option. I wouldn't take a bladder, I'm not a fan, they are tough to full in stream trickles and they burst. I was picturing a paddling bottle. It is essentially almost 4 regular bottles, so you fill that with water and still have a bottle of coke/water and a bottle of protein drink. I've been lucky enough to do RASA and a few other decent length adventures. Having drink options and food on hand is essential to ticking off miles without stopping but remaining 'topped up' for tomorrow. 200km plus or minus change between refueling stations is a long way. Looking at last years times, 90 to 110 hours is a realistic goal for 'most'.

How dare you! Those super high armrests are quite something. Can one see over them when in a normal hand position?! (I'm sure they can, it just looks really crazy) I have always wondered why people with such a slick setup don't have a 2.5L paddling bottle in a bar bag with the drinking tube fastened to the bars. It's an easy refill and easy to drink while on the armrests What do I know though, I can't even afford an entry, so I'll feign absolute Jon Snow! Those are proper Frankenbikes. I wouldn't have the balls to modify any of my bikes that much for a few days of riding
