  1. BikeHub!!!!
  2. Cape Town people are clique bro, no outsiders! 🤭 I'd guess so they can meet, ride and share gees prior to the event?
  3. What do you mean? According to some anecdotal noticings and economic predictions there is nothing wrong. Pay no attention to the actual happenings, business closures, laying offs of staff etc, that is not a real indicator of things. Stats predictions based on assumptions is where the real answer lies!
  4. hahaha The boom is over, companies are closing down and laying off huge amounts of staff all over the world at a pretty steady rate. Some big players too The cycling industry is not in a good place.
  5. I'm not sure which news sites you read, but here are just a few articles highlighting how bad a shape the bike industry is in currently; https://www.bicycling.com/news/a44811341/bike-industry-comeback-2023/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2023/08/11/cycle-industrys-collapse-after-bike-boom-ends-this-year-say-analysts/?sh=6a33342766d9 https://www.showdaily.net/2023/08/why-are-bike-companies-going-out-of-business/ https://road.cc/content/news/brexit-blamed-uk-distributor-fli-ceases-trading-302665 Gorilla Gravity just announced it's closure along with a bunch of others The bike boom I most definitely over
  6. According to numbers, the boom is over. This year has seen the doors closing globally of a number of big import agents, Direct to consumer brands, apparel companies and shops globally, as well as buyouts, takeovers and Intellectual property changing hands. A large amount of those involved in the bike industry supply chain and distribution are really struggling to stay afloat or just aren't. I'm not at all surprised
  7. The guys are balls deep in getting ready for the start of Adventure racing world champs. There is a lot of preamble. I think they were hoping someone in the area might be able to help with a loaner set or a buy them from me set so they can get their bike boxes handed in on time without any of the team missing any briefings or presentations pre race. I'm sure one of them will drive through to PE today and buy a set. If they have to hand the bike boxes in this morning then they will need to trek the first leg with them in their pack, which is also probably no big deal Pre race for a massive 800km non stop World Champs is stressful, I'm sure the team will have calmed down to a mild panic and made a plan by now!
  8. I would suggest the massive increases in living/operational costs and the ridiculously low original figure makes this perfectly reasonable when you think about it.
  9. do you guys wielding do situation training? There are two reasons I ask this, as using a pistol is one thing, but shooting someone or even harming someone is another. The other reason would be to make sure you are able to stop the piece being taken or used on you. Do you carry to defend your stuff or to defend your life? The best form of self defence is running away. Shooting, killing, maiming another person lives with you a very long time, even if you're defending yourself. I'm not touching on a moral high ground, I think anyone mugging/hijacking/harming others with intend deserves exactly what they get. I'm talking about the trauma that comes from the violence. Being a killer in any situation doesn't sit well with most people. Some socio and psychopaths excluded
  10. I left it. Those people will rot in hell
  11. Ah... then the seller is a knob and I would tell the friends that their friend is a total asshat
  12. Who collected the bike? I probably brushed over this while wondering how someone accepts the handover of the bike without integral bits. Sorry
  13. Spez make some really good rear tires in 2.3/2,35 I have a 2.4 Butcher 2 and a 2.3 Purgatory on the ROS9. They work pretty well tbh
  14. hahahaha I think this is nuts from both parties. Buyer: It is Di2, do you have the charger? Seller: No Buyer: Oh, that is strange, can i please have the charger or can you knock something off the price, the bike is useless without it. Seller: errrrrrrrr Buyer: errrrrrrrr I am not laying blame, but the whole interaction is strange. It comes down to KNOWING WHAT YOU'RE BUYING AND SELLING So much of this sort of disappointment is avoided by knowing what is changing hands and drawing lines in the sand as to what expectations are from both sides. On another note, I rented an apartment out to friends of friends. I actually met them at the wedding of said friends. They brought a cat without telling me, which proceeded to destroy a couch and some dining room chairs. They hid the damage and left. I discovered it, got hold of them, they blocked me. I approached the friends with a 'yoh, these people....' and was shut down with a 'It's not our problem, we don't want to be involved' These situations are always tricky and best dealt with outside of the mutual party. Good luck OP
  15. @DieselnDust I love it when you speak foreign....... I 'believe' there is merit in having a proper insert while trail riding and smashing down things, but otherwise it becomes something that gets in the way of a simple trailside repair and more to carry or discard if the system completely fails 20, 30 or 50km from the nearest relief point.
  16. Away from Ineos MANY top performing Skyborgs failed to replicate any sort of form that made them sellable assets. One or two went back and miraculously returned to form. See that how you will
  17. You been smokin too much magic cabbage mon! 'I remember... when we used to ride... over Constantia Nek.. in Cape Town.. Good friends we had... good friends we looost.... along... the desceee ee eeentt'
  18. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Town_Cycle_Tour Wiki says No Nek......
  19. Yes! Well remembered! There were hay bales and a net thing from the railings down to the curb. There and the right turn up Boyes in Lakeside.
  20. I guess so. The Hout Bay mamas need to drive their urban 4x4s to pilates and horse riding at some point. I'd also suggest the tight right hander descending Ou Kaaps into Westlake will need a jumpy castle and hay bales.....
  21. Yeah... that's a big ask. I'd need to sleep for a week after that travel schedule!!! hahaha I'm still tempted. If I were going I would give Mitosesethu a lift. Those going, give the lad a lift!!!!!!
  22. Ou kaaps, spangemagt, up the nek and back down into hout bay? That is a great detour and you still get the atlantic run in I'm sure the data wizards would be able to tell you how much longer and more climbing that would be
  23. The best part is the question has already been answered. Now it's time for the 'I know betterer than you' bickering. IMHO, i'd also buy a close range road cassette and use all of it. Have a completely different chain/gear setup when you come and visit Mamil and I in Cape Town and we go up some mountains
  24. This is more believable/up my alley.... This also makes sense.... Some of the comments started with 'Every time I ride'
  25. I think Stanford is still under water and there are huge pieces of road missing from most mountainous areas. I'd stay local and ride into the reserve and to Cape Point and back via Smits, Red hill and Black hill.
