  1. I rode Smits/Red hill way this morning to avoid chappies. A bit of mud and stones on red hill, but rideable. There a huge piles of debris next to the roads as you head south. Chappies is definitely still closed.
  2. Do you guys really clean your bikes after EVERY ride as described in the posts? Every single ride? Yoh..... I think I last cleaned my road bike the day before CTCT I mean I wipe the chain when I lube it and run a brush through the cassette every now and then, but yoh.... That is a LOT of cleaning
  3. The problem with this is that the Insta/Socials marketing is going to the people who ALREADY know about the races and are in all the right fish bowl circles. That sort of 'marketing' is selling the product to people who would already buy it. As an outlier who doesn't do socials but loves riding bikes, I also have no idea what is coming up and when. There is very little to no effort to get the races and events out of the 'circles' and into the world. The racers will race, they pass on info to each other and then wonder why the numbers never grow. Inclusion is not something this sport is good at because everyone assumes it's 'out there' because they and their friends all know. Nobody realises just how small those circles are until they want to
  4. He needs to throw in a chopper or a kids bike or something. All these regular bikes...... pfffft
  5. Your bikes are way too practical....
  6. I don't greet people every time. Just like I don't greet other car drivers while driving, other shoppers while shopping, other runners while running etc I owned a Land Rover Defender for 20 odd years and stopped waving at those other poor idiots who owned one too. Call me what you will, but waving, blowing kisses and nodding at everyone seems excessive.
  7. It's all about how much you look after your butt and how much your stuff all fits together.. I'm a no cream guy. I have some minor experience with time in the saddle having done Freedom Challenge, Many multi day events, Many expedition races where we spend 40 hours non stop on the bike with a packpack on, IMs and all sorts of other stuff in between and the only time I have ever developed a saddle sore is when I rode the indoor trainer too often during covid and this winter. I am on the spectrum with sensory issues and despise the feeling and smell of lube creams on or near my person. I make sure my wiry curl soap sticking hair is trimmed in the nether regions and folds, the bib short seams aren't aggravating any soft folds or moving parts and spend some time making sure it works. BOOM! I do use Bennetts baby bum cream for any repairs and my worst but essential, is a good layer of basic blue seal in the butt to avoid chafe while doing 'long runs'..... More than 3 hours ish when things have a chance to get sweaty, dry and get sweaty again.
  8. Yes, but if the OP does that then the same 9 people can't make the same comments on THIS thread!!! Do you even internet?!
  9. If you wax your crack, transparent bibshorts are hot!
  10. All I get from this is that if the BikeHub brainstrust can't agree on what 'Full Carbon' means, how does anyone expect uncaring bikehub noobs to know the correct description? When I see 'Full Carbon' (Noob) or 'BARGAIN' (almost definitely isn't) or 'Urgent sale' (drug addict) in an advert title I just immediately don't want to click for the reasons in brackets..... There are obviously other red flags, like pictures that look like they were taken with a potato and good pictures that are pixelated or are obviously filtered. But ja, justifying an advert usually pangs of noobness or desperation
  11. I was more referencing Oli Munnik riding Epic on the Signal. It's got 9 more gears and way more suspension than the last bike I rode any sort of stage race on. Another option in a busy market. Good for the basic 'bums on bikes' class and/or development access to a 'proper' bike.
  12. I'd definitely ride Epic on it as a marketing campaign if they paid for me... just saying
  13. On that, what is 'Urgent Sale'? I get it if you're in need of cash fast so you sell something well below market value to move it fast, but ads marked 'Urgent Sale' and priced on or above the relevant market price confuse me Anyway, as you were
  14. My advice would be to forget long runs. Do 10 to 14km easy runs consistently between now and the end of the month, get miles in the legs without the big recovery. Then just continue the taper as normal from October. The long run is just to remind the brain how to push through the barrier. No need to do lots of them at all.
  15. One can include oneself in ones own berating. I know I certainly wish I hadn't clicked on the thread to begin with but i did and here I am. sigh
  16. I don't see the same thing as you on this. If it was a school comprehension we would have very different answers 😜 I do my best NOT to be influenced by news and stories that have little to no effect on my daily life. The outrage and the sensationalism makes me despair and gets me bummed out. I prefer to check the surf forecast and plan my day around that
  17. Yes. The point is it WAS dealt with locally, not accepted by the parents, the guy was named and shamed etc but in a way that he could then go after the parents blah blah blah blah It happened on a continent far far away and people acted because it involved them. It does not involve us, yet we are here hacking away engaging in it creating chemicals and reactions in our brain over something that has, in truth, already run it's course (some would say a bit too far). The fact that it is still eliciting a response from completely unrelated people who will inevitably get worked up over a grammatical error or a misunderstood statement even MORE removed from the story just illustrates the point. I'm all for chatting bikes and making jokes about stuff, but this sort of thing one would do well to stay away from. No matter how much one denies it, there is SOME level of annoyance or chemical response, which, when added to 50 or 60 others, has a very real effect on the brain
  18. You look like a serious rider, have you done the Epic? 😝
  19. hahaha yeah. The 14% boet in me hasn't convinced the other 86% that it's something I would actually wear.. But I can appreciate it's radness
  20. I saw the advert for this and it stuck. I'm not much of a rugby boet or sports shirt wearer but this concept made me think 'This is rad'
  21. Order it today, get it way before the Semi's and Finals in 6 weeks!
  22. Or this one? https://vye.co.za/products/mens-grand-touring-bokke-2023?variant=42726997622956
  23. All I can hear in my head is the Waterboy scene... 'Gaterbraaakes'....... Those look fairly 'industrial'...
  24. 200k.... Sjoe, here I am trying to see if I have the budget to help a team out for a once in a lifetime World Champs AR in South Africa next month for 25k I don't. I definitely wouldn't be able to scrape 100k together for something that happens annually Also, if anyone has 25k lying around and wants to sponsor something rad, I know both Myself and @Shebeen would be stoked 🤪
  25. try them and see? As a matter of interest, what is a 'longer ride'? I am not a racer but I use 'gels' when I run a road marathon or do a bike race when I know I will be moving the entire time and don't have the brain function to chew without choking or inhibiting my breathing too much. I certainly don't carry 'gels' on training rides or runs. Anything between 3 and 9 hours done at a consistent intensity. Anything longer than that I will have 0ne or 2 in reserve and make sure I eat proper food. This allows me to both eat proper food which is better on the gut and forces me to lower my intensity for a while in order to eat. If thats stopping or going slower, which is generally a good idea on something 10 to 120 hours long
