  1. those darn pesky customers......
  2. as it has been said before, its not about the bike (ducks, runs, hides)
  3. here is a scenario to ponder. Customer comes into LBS with a request that will take all of a few minutes to do, they take the bike into the workshop, let the customer browse around (he may even purchase something) and not even 5 minutes later he comes back with the bike. Customer enquires as to the cost, and the LBS says, no probs all sorted. Customer leaves and is rather impressed that he was not charged - the likelihood of him returning back to that LBS is more than 10 fold. Now I am not saying work should be carried out for free, but the chance of the client returning and therefore becoming that "old loyal customer". Charge where it is warranted, and I can almost assure you that even if the price is a little higher than somewhere else, this new loyal customer will pay with a smile. Of course - that's if he is not being completely ripped off, but I think you get my drift on this one....
  4. yeah ScottC-M, I'm with you on this one, if they are going to charge - then do the job right. LBS's are becoming like car dealerships The brakes are very easy to re-align if the catching is from side to side, i.e they are almost binding. Loosen the brake caliper bolts just enough so there is a little amount of movement. Spin the wheel and then pull the respective brake lever. Do this 2-3 times and on the last attempt, keep the brake lever in and tighten the bolts - be careful not to over tighten these. Should be sorted. Your bike has the Tektro HDC 300 brakes, and I found that it took a few spins of the wheel to get it all sorted. I have upgraded my brake system, so a lot more easy to adjust and braking / modulation is now top shelf. If you have any other queries, PM me and I will assist as best I can.
  5. remember - small adjustments at a time
  6. not saying it was you ScottC-M, I would put my money on the LBS you took it to help sort out the gears are the culprit. I am pretty sure one can get a replacement housing cover, but as for cost??? I cant really comment on Rietvlei guys - have never used them, but Linden Cycles (ask for Wolfgang or Edu) they do a great job of looking after my machine - which happens to be a 229 as well . Where the cable goes into the shifter, there is an adjustment knob you can either tighten or slacken the shifter cables, try tighten the cable a bit or loosen it - feel the tension of the cables under the top tube - if they feel loose then tighten a bit on the adjuster on the shifter. I am making the assumption it is the rear that is slipping?
  7. Looks like that shifter has been over tightened somewhat As suggested, take your bike back to the place you bought it from - going to be your best bet - although I am not so sure there is much they will do in terms of that shifter - as from where it has cracked, someone has definitely taken an allem key to it and over tightened it IMHO Finding a decent, reliable, trustworthy LBS is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So far, Linden Cycles has been really great for the more challenging stuff - give yourself an hour alone with your bike, and you will be amazed at how much of the smaller stuff you can attend to yourself. For what it is worth, you have a great bike, just hope that the LBS you are having kaaak with has not tainted the brand for you
  8. one of my favourite vids
  9. asking price is high IMHO
  10. very true, and I totally agree with you - keep left and use common sense. Sadly, common sense is not always common practice, and whether we wlike it or not, sadly there are a few MTBers out there that think the trails they are riding on belong to them. So ja, prevention is better than cure - merely a suggestion.
  11. matter of time, if you are turning right back into the tunnel from your ride, going from daylight to the darkness of the tunnel makes 100% visibility a bit of an issue - even if it is for a very brief period. Wonder if there is perhaps not another way to either leave the car park area or return back to the car park area - meaning that there is different points for starting and returning a ride?
  12. one of my favourite time pieces - rolex submariner
  13. the only thing they will change is to stop cycling.... themselves that is...
  14. Hey Escapee, you know what mate - you're right - that is a bit rough. **** like this really gets my blood boiling, but what tips the charts for me is how SAPS are just so bloody useless. Its also a bit of a sensitive matter, my eldest brother (52) was murdered last year on 25 December - two guys broke into his house, shot him in his sleep and proceeded to then empty the contents of the fridge into his car and pissed off (car was abandoned a few km from the house). Ja we all have our *** to deal with - and the one way I deal with many issues in life is to get on my bike and ride. Really sad that this is not even possible when you hear of such incidents.
  15. sorry Escapee, I think may post may have got lost in translation, which I will attempt to simplify as follows: Who gives a ****, innocent or not - MOER HULLE!!!!
  16. I am always amused at how calm and rational and all ag shame poor oke - we must be towards these savages - eye for an eye - at least all he will get is a stiff PK - some cyclists have not been that lucky, and now there is a wife, son or daughter asking, why, why did it have to be my dad? Fight fire with fire, and teach these bastards a lesson that they simply cant jkust take what they want and in the manner they want, cause they feel that they are entitled to it.......
  17. this is fantastic, hopefully it puts pressure on the authorities.......
  18. yup, just like us cyclists......
  19. ja exactly, government is too worried about lining their own back pockets by raping us taxpayers of all we have - to be worried about a few cyclists being stabbed, shot, shot at, robbed, etc...... bloody disgrace indeed......
  20. this is f*&%ing bullsh*t!!! this country is going down the tubes, actually think we are halfway down the pipe already!! soon, staying at home, locked behind our high walls, and security - is too going to be a risk!! my brother was murdered on 25 Dec 2012 at the age of 52, broke into his home and shot him whilst in bed!! enough, as much as one tries their best to see the positives, I can understand why people just want to get the hell out of this country...... makes me f&^$ing sick
  21. this is really getting out of hand, mense wat gaan ons doen?
  22. All I hope is the tracker units are carbon so they don't weigh us down too much
  23. what a bloody joke indeed
  24. Nandos, Spur, Steers, etc....
