  1. yeah, I am doing half of the Monster this year, being my first, but next year will be the whole enchilada. would be good to put a few faces to the names, and in my case, a name to the mugshot I call a profile pic.... hahahaha but how will I know who you are
  2. i could not agree with you more rouxtjie, the hub is a lekker forum for not only buying and selling stuff, but there is some awesome insight into the other realms of cycling on the hub, various articles, tech Q&A, and general banter. there is a lekker bunch of okes here on the hub, have never met anyone, but most of you guys seem to know each other well - would be lekker to crack a beer with some of you one day.....
  3. knew there had to be a way to clock up 1000 posts pronto - and there you have it if your place of residence is where you conduct business from, yup then one needs to be more than 100% sure of the buyer - dont want some dodgey oke pulling in with his chommas to clean you out. Big respect Rouxtjie
  4. oh please do tell.......
  5. ja jong, dan ryk dit soos *** op n tekkie
  6. post #160 for me, eish got a long way to go before I meet rouxtjie's criteria in reading the previous posts to this topic, I guess I am a noob - so flame away if you like (quickly puts on fire retardent suit), I dont really sell much, but I do suffer from an incurable disorder (like Oscar) called Upgradenitis. i think that when it comes to buying and selling stuff, like many have said before, common sense is good practice and if things dont sit with you 100% - walk away. personally, if I were selling items, I would never send anything without having the cash cleared in my account first. if it's a cash deal, then a neutral meeting ground is where we would meet (nobody will notice the SWAT Team van in the background). i cant help but feel sorry for my fellow noobs, who will join the hub, cause they have just got into cycling and wanting to buy a bike, or looking for upgrade parts - but need to meet a certain post criteria before they can transact? i guess, its the world we live in these days, remember the days when your word and hand shake sealed the deal?
  7. Will keep an eye out for it - rising there this weekend. Where about did you ride, just to make sure that i follow the same route?
  8. Keep us updated on the progress.......
  9. I think you are onto something, venues near and far (possibly) where you can pay X price and it includes accommodation, meals, and the ride/s? I would be interested....
  10. Firstly the one and only place to look for a sweet ride is right here on thehubsa in the classifieds . The sketchy part is from the Pick n Pay through to Sunninghill, but keep in mind, you are in Jhb and **** can go down anywhere, anytime...... so be alert at all times, no matter where you cycle. Motorists in general tend to act like the own the road, personally I would face the sickest DH run on a hardtail than cycle on the road, especially here in Jhb..... I think the only motorists that are mindful of us are our fellow cyclists....... Be safe, ride hard......
  11. can a bicycle be considered as art? This in my mind qualifies.....
  12. Thanks Gearman, the head tube angle is roughly there and thereabouts, and weight, I cant seem to find what the momsen frame weight is anywhere, so guess I can only make that comparitive once she has been stripped down?
  13. Hi there fellow hubbers, I currently own a "pimped" 2012 Momsen AL229 - it has gone through a multitude of upgrades and the only thing that is still stock standard is the frame. There is a possability that I may be able to pick up a pretty clean 2012 GT Karakoram 3.0 frame for a pretty good price (less than R500). The GT brand is one that I have always admired - and wanted but my only option at the time was the Momsen. My question, which frame would you guys say is "the better one" - or are they pretty much on the same level? My intention is to simply book my Momsen into hospital (my garage) whereby all her components will be donated across to the GT frame - but I dont want to go through the schlep if there will be little to no difference? Look forward to hearing from the experts...........
  14. With no rain for a good couples of days now, should not be too much of a mudfest.
  15. A company is nothing more than the people in that company, in this case the salesmen. You should not need to phone the owner every time you have a bad experience. Just a question, if you go somewhere and you receive bad customer service, which makes more sense, a rant on thehubsa or any other social media platform, or addressing it with the owner / senior manangement to resolve the issue whereby they are made aware of the situation and can then improve on the customer service they offer? Just saying....
  16. I do hope that you get hold of the owner and let her know so that they can address the issue. I too was there on Saturday - will be purchasing my daughters first bike from them - and the shop was crazy busy - which is the norm for them on a Saturday. I too sometimes become a little agitated with some of the responses that I hear from the youth of today, and I think that this guy was trying to fob you off - take it up with Joanne and sort it out.

  18. ScottC-M sorry to hear about the injuries bud, heal up fast and ride harder. A lot of sound advice has been given to your dilemma, and as for selling your bike whether it was given to you or you bought it - to replace it with another bike does not really make much sense to me? Although not in numerical order - Rule # 12 followed by Rule # 5 is applicable Building up a road bike from scratch is going to cost you more than you thought - I know cause I am trying to do the same thing as I type this. Interestingly enough, a mate gave me a Dura Ace 7800 groupset (minus STI's) and although the build is going to cost me more than I really wanted to spend on a road bike, I could not bring myself to the point of bombing the idea and selling the groupset that was given to me? One of those unspoken / written rules we live by? Then again, this will vary from person to person. Anyways, I have decided to press on with the build and will see it through till the end. If you checkout Gumtree or Olx - lots of indoor stationery bikes for sale and pretty cheap? Checkout cash crusaders also, or even better, take up one of the generous offers that have been made right here on this thread. Heel fast dude, and hope you get back onto your MTB soon.
  19. the replies to this topic was so easy to predict Have the brakes bled & serviced, check the pads for minimum wear, if you need to replace (or even if they are in good condition), give them a light sand on a P120 grit sand paper (i mean like very light sand) and finally deglaze rotors. BOOM, just like that problem solved - well for me and like 99% of all other Avid users....
  20. cant speak for the quality from CWC, but I got mine from BuyCycle and thus far not issues, all holding up as it should....
  21. if I am not mistaken, there is a Biokinetics Centre at the Netcare hospital in Rosebank?
  22. rather look at a Momsen VIPA - dont get me wrong, I love the SC, but the cost is just insane. The VIPA I beleive to be a way better value for money product, and will deliver the same amount of riding pleasure. MY 2C WORTH
  23. FFS!!! He may as well as have gone in the buff!!! I am not sure which is more of a concern though, the insane sunburn, or the porno outfit?
  24. oooh - sounds like a lekker sting operation in the making
