  1. is you mate looking to buy new or seconhand? seconhand, I am pretty sure you will find a very nicely specced bike right here on the hubs classifieds. New, I agree with ScottC-M, a Momsen is you best value for money bike and comes decently specced.
  2. Indeed, but like I have said on multiple occassions, its not about the R50 - its the principle of the matter. I actually wonder how different the responses would be had I not mentioned that I paid R50 for the SIDI buckles??
  3. pic as promised I am sure you will agree that the shoes are pretty much brand new, barring some dust from this past Saturdays race. The two pics of the ratchet system. Please note that the ratchet system on the shoe in the first pic is the replacement SIDI ones I paid R50 for.
  4. in one of my earlier posts, I inserted the response from FiT, they want pics, original invoice, and bike shop details - and will decide if it is a warrenty claim or not. what I make of this is that is the buckle is all scuffed and scratched, then that is possible abuse and sorry but no cigar. will post pics....
  5. RESPONSE: Hi , thank you for your email. We will gladly assist you in one way or the other. All we need to ascertain whether the ratchet is covered under a warranty claim or not is like you said, a clear photo of the shoes, a photo of the ratchet as well as a clear photo of the ratchet system area on the left/right shoe which it broke on. We will then be able to make an accurate decision. Where are you based and which store did you purchase your shoes from? I will also be able to ascertain from the photos which model of shoes you have as the heading mentions 2 different models of shoes...Montana XT3 and T-Flex which is a Carbon model. Regards, Gavin Richardson FiTsportslab
  6. ok so what I have done is that I have gone straight to the suppliers with this. I have supplied photos of the shoes and buckles / ratchet so that they can see what condition they are in. Will let you all know what their response is.
  7. I would assume that if he did he would have shown me to prove his point.
  8. right, thanks to all for your feedback, really appreciate it. my conclusion is that my gripe is more aligned in the way the bike shop handled this whole story, and for that, i will not go back. As mentioned, I paid the R50 for the replacement SIDI buckles, so my shoes are hundreds again. Name and shame the bike shop, nope wont be doing that, as the people of the hub have spoken, and I am eating a healthy portion of humble pie. Really should have just gone to the suppliers directly and had my vent there with them. School Fees paid.... moving on..... Happy & Safe Riding All
  9. absolutely - but if they were normal shoe laces I could completley understand, but for a system that has been engineered by someone to make sure that they perform better than a lace, hmmm...... I guess my grip is more in the way it was handled.....
  10. Also, it is not about the R50 either, as originally mentioned. Its the principal of the matter, as well as that I honestly cannot believe the BS of, well they are made to break. You go buy a very pricey pair of MTB shoes, ones for like 4k, and the ratchet breaks, you telling me that you will just take it on the chin - highly doubt it....
  11. Not sure why I thought ASG were the agents - but all fixed now Pulse & Tumbleweed, I hear what you are saying, however, lets look at this scenario. Either of you guys go into Cape Union Mart and purchase a pair of Merrell hiking boots. Two months later, the stiching (wherever on the shoe) starts to come undone. Would you guys take it as an oh well **** happens - cause afterall stuff breaks?
  12. Exactly 2 months ago I bought a pair of LG T-Flex MTB shoes from a bike shop that is literally on my doorstep. I know the owner and we get on pretty well, and over the past couple of months I have tried my best to support his business as best I can in buying various odds and ends from him. His shop is pretty new, only been around for a few months, and rather than supporting the bigger corporates, I always try to support "the little guy". So, on 06 June 2014, I popped into his shop to see whatshoes he had as I was looking for a replacement pair. Saw the LG T-Flex shoes, tried them on and they felt great, therefore went ahead with the purchase. At the USN Cup held at Avianto this past weekend, slipped my shoes on, and proceeded to buckle them up and make final adjustment only to end up with the ratchet part breaking off. My shoes a never tight on my feet, always leave a little room, especially as Saturday seemed to be like a hot day and ones feet would swell. So, take the shoes back, and the owner takes down my details and says he will order one for me. Today, have still not heard anything from him, so decide to pop past the shop. New ratchet system has not been ordered and he can only help me with a pair of SIDI ratchets which work just fine. So not being phased about too much about the brand of buckle, I agree to take the SIDI ones, to which I am then told they cost R50.00? Really??? Now not to drag this out any longer, I voiced my opion on wanting to charge me R50 for a new buckle, which in my view should not have broken after two months? I am then told that these things are made to break and that there is no "warrenty" if you like on this type of thing - and I need to part with R50 for the SIDI buckle, or pay a lot more the original LG one which he will order. I expalined my logic by saying that that makes about as much sense as buying a new bike, and two months later I come back cause the rear stay has snapped for example - what then, does the same logic of "these things are made to break" apply, and that I would need to cough up for a new frame? Yes I know this may be a bad example due to certain circumstances, but I think you guys get my drift. Anyways, I eventually said that here is R50 for the SIDI buckles, and consider it the last R50 that he will see from me again. So, my question to my fellow hubbers, am I being daft / unrealistic in expecting them to replace the buckle at no cots to me? I can post pics if needs be, the shoes and buckles are practically brand new? It really is not about the money, its the principle of the matter. I would really love to hear what you guys, and maybe even what one of the FiT guys here on the hub have to say in this regard. EDIT: Once I have heard back from everyone, I will either eat humble pie or name and shame.....
  13. these luxury tented camps are not as "cut n dry" as they may seem. a shyte load of work goes on behind the scenes at an operational level which the "guest" does not get to see - warehousing, transporting approx. 100 tons of equipment to and from locations, water, etc..... lots and lots of hard graft. personally, if you can afford it, why the hell not, although I think that a massage tent or two, bike wash area and perhaps a basic service area which is included in the price and only available to those riders staying in the lux camp would really seal the deal? watch this space....
  14. Hey Maurius, I suspect that these bikes may be stripped and the items sold off individually - however - I will keep my eyes peeled for you. Keep an eye out on the classifieds here on the hub as well as olx and gumtree - was reading a post earlier where it appeared that the guy who stole a Momsen Vipa was trying to resell it here on the hub as well as gumtree.
  15. Step 1 - Remove tyre Step 2 - Throw tyre in the bin Step 3 - Take a drive to your LBS Step 4 - Purchase Maxiss Crossmark tyres Step 5 - Refit tyre and never worry again Jokes aside, I think that doing a repair job is going to give you endless drama. I ride a Crossmark at the rear and an Ardent up front - my riding style is pretty aggressive and I have taken them tyres where no tyres have gone and they keep asking for more - b omb proof combo Oh, Chris Willemse Cycles has them on a great deal, check it out - http://www.cwcycles....k-ust-29er-tyre and http://www.cwcycles....ust-lust-29x225 EDIT: yes they are a little on the heavy side, but run them tubless, small price to pay IMO
  16. Stumbled across this on twitter today. Wonder if it is available in SA and if not perhaps we should look into it?
  17. Momsen FTW - and as a previous hubber mentioned, try get the AL229
  18. camel humps on single track..... when did this happen......
  19. all this talk of hijackings and personal safety has made me so depressed.... I need to jump on my bike and hit the trails hard and fast to put a smile on my face... oh wait, cant do that, I may not make it back home alive.....
  20. yeah I remember then days very well. Whats your avergae thiefs collar size? 175/65/14 - one warning on its way there just seems like nothing will ever get done to remedy things in SA, example https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/141485-have-you-been-affected/
  21. yo but we are living in some real f$&*@d up times. Who ever thought that the next set of bibs and jersey you bought would need to be Robocops? if licensed gun owners want to carry whilst riding, that is really their choice to do so, I personally do not own a firearm and have often thought of the pepper spary thing - but IMHO unless you are riding with it in your hand, i dont really see the point. if you a far away enough and able to spot a possible hijacking / mugging that is going to unfold - that distance should be enough to turn around and and head in the opposite direction. When something happens, it is so quick - look at the guy with the GoPro on his helmet, as he crossed over the rail tracks, that oke and his thieving friends came out of nowhere in seconds. OT - but look at that poor 4yr old kid that was dragged to death whilst hanging out of the car for approx 8.5km - WTF!!!! The residents of Reiger Park (where the kids parents live) have verbally come out saying that they will take justice into their own hands as the cops are useless. Something has to be done - Carte Blanche is an option, just hope that it carries a wider focus and not just one region of SA - so that all of the local municipalities can get off their lazy asses and do something about it.....
  22. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/catalog/apparel/shoes-mtb check out the Suplest range - they are pretty "out there" ........ I have the LG T Flex's as well, thought I was pushing the limit in terms of bling with them but the Black and Red Sidi Dragons would be about as bling as I dare get.....
