  1. Nathrix, I would love to but I am leaving tomorrow morning for a week at the coast. Only back next Sunday.
  2. It still seems as if "THEY" have won! Went for my usual Saturday club ride this morning. Only 10 of us pitched. Consensus was that it was too dangerous to ride off-road so it was decided to go for a 30km ROAD RIDE. "THEY" have taken over our cycling area.
  3. Yes. It can be done. There are probably a few different routes down. I have done it up and down.
  4. Sorry, I disagree. A damn fine engine in a damn fine car. Almost the most fun you could have on 4 wheels.
  5. About 2 years ago there were something like 9 attacks in the area between Irene and Olifantsfontein over a period of 3 months. It was quiet for a while. In the last 2 1/2 months there have been at least 8 to 10 bikejackings or attempted bikejackings in roughly the same area. This seems like a pretty big problem to me. The worst of the earlier attacks was Sleeping Beauty who almost lost her life and still walks with a limp after 2 1/2 years. So, despite what Le Turbo thinks, there IS a MAJOR PROBLEM.
  6. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/104570-bikejacking-bluehills-kyalami/page__gopid__1425460#entry1425460 Another one this morning between Centurion and Olifantsfontein. Unsuccessful. Two were apprehended.
  7. Apparently also an attempted bikejacking between Centurion and Olifantsfontein this morning. The group was however ready for them with motor cyclists waiting. Two of them were apprehended, "spoken to" and then hauled off to the police station. It seems as if they are not locals but actually come in by train to ply their "trade". "Commute to work".
  8. .....or this one.
  9. Try France as well. Morzine is good. Did it in early Sptember. Look here....http://www.endlessride.com/php/morzine.php

  11. Another one this past Saturday morning at about 8.30. Three cyclists were held up on the dirt road behind the cement factory. Two black men armed with long kitchen knives interested only in cell phones and money. They got away with two cell phones. Did not take the bikes and there were no injuries.I spoke to one of the victims, Alexander Beukes, this morning. I have asked him to report the incident to the SAPS for what it is worth. This seems to be the eighth one in the last two or so months in the Irene area.
  12. Where exactly and when did this happen.
  13. Use a piece of plastic pipe as a spacer for smaller seatposts.
  14. This is the 5th or 6th one in this area in the last month. It seems to be getting worse again.
  15. Does anybody know anything about a bike-jacking behind Smuts' Farm this morning?

  19. Received this e-mail yesterday. "MTN South Africa wants to offer its condolences and support to the family of Carla Swart, one of the country’s top female cyclists who died tragically in a training accident in the Free State yesterday morning. “Carla has been a great inspiration for female cyclists across South Africa and has shown them what can be achieved through dedication and hard work. She played a very active mentoring role for the younger cyclists on the MTN team. Our thoughts go out to her loved ones during this difficult time,” says Bernard Pieters, senior sponsorship manager at MTN South Africa. Swart was 23 and represented South Africa at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where she finished as the highest-placed SA rider in eighth position in the women's road race. “Carla had achieved great results for us on the World Cup circuit and in the two years with us had improved from 32nd at the World Champs to 10th at the last World Champs. It was clear she was on her way to the top," says former manager, Douglas Ryder of MTN Qhubekha. Doctor Carol Austin coach for MTN Qhubeka and then MTN Energade said "Carla was an exceptional athlete, who embraced her talent and life's opportunities with passion and delight. She raced her first world cup with our team and just 14 months later re-wrote SA women's cycling history with a 10th place at 2010 Road World Champs." Austin also added "She was deeply committed to representing the country of her birth, she was very proudly South African. Her performances inspired belief, while her bubbly positive personality brought much laughter and fun to our team. We will all miss her dearly. We are forever grateful that she touched our lives and inspired SA women in our sport."
