  1. Ai Caleb... will you ever again get a chance like this in M-SR? Well done to Stuyven though ... fortune often favours the brave. Very lively performance by Tom Pidcock .. did not look like someone who is currently spending a lot of energy on the testing of mountain bike set ups (an unmarked BMC). It is great to be a cycling fan these days.
  2. Mathieu van der Poel on Milan- San Remo: "The first 150 to 200 kilometres are just riding in a bunch and trying not to fall asleep, so it's not really my favourite kind of racing"
  3. I agree. I broke mine and had plate inserted in December. Took about 10 days off the bike and then started slowly on IDT while arm was still in sling and water proof wound dressing still on... gradually build it up. After about 3 months I was riding outside and found that I have hardly lost any fitness ( Wahoo Kickr is one of the best "investments" I ever made ).
  4. I watched the last hour or so. The roads and cobbles were quite treacherous, there were always going to be crashes. I also hope to see a race where Cav will be in a position to sprint for the win.. even if only for old times sake as this season will probably be his last.
  5. Indeed, I wonder whether Alaphalippe thanked him for the early lead out G seems on track to do a good TdF. As long as he can stay upright he has as good a chance as any other rider to win the Tour. It was also nice to see "new" stars like Sivakov and Almeida riding so well yesterday.
  6. Tirreno was brilliant today. The race will probably be decided by the time trial. In comparison Paris Nice is unfortunately a bit of a procession. (Not taking anything away from Sam B who is currently in a class of his own as a sprinter)
  7. I just checked the results of a survey that was conducted by the the South African sport24 website in which they asked their readers to indicate their favourite tv sport. Cycling scored only 2% while MMA/UFC/WWE scored 3%. ( the 3 sports are combined in the survey). Boxing , that stands alone, scored 1%. Rugby (41%) and football (19%) scored the highest.
  8. Seems like DSTV will have live cover of the Paris to Nice race. No Strade Bianche though.
  9. He was not too bad today taking into consideration that he worked for Ben Hermans who managed a top 10.
  10. He is not the fastest sprinter in the world but certainly one of the most consistent. Fabio Aru finished 18th in the Tour de la Provence today at 2.18 behind Sosa.... not too bad for a start I suppose..
  11. Sergio Henao is the latest signing Not a bad rider, at least Aru will now have more support in the mountains.
  12. Great news.. well done to Doug for refusing to give in. It is a pity that de Bod is leaving... imo he is the best or most promising SA cyclist currently besides Impey and Gibbons... lets hope they can get Aru or Clarke. Re the revenue generation in football : It must be remembered that the kit manufacturers ( Nike, Addidas, New Balance) make much more money than the clubs from the sale of replica shirts even if the upfront payment is huge. The manufacturers pocket between 80 and 90% of the revenue from the actual sales.
  13. Ja, asseblief. Ek is al so moeg vir " How to become as strong as Filipo Ganna without training harder" tipe artikels. Stories of inligting oor padfiets ekspedisies of toere in Italie/Frankryk/Spanje/Engeland ens sal fantasties wees. Sterkte met die tydskrif, ek sal my vrinne vertel al is meeste van hulle Engelssprekend
  14. Sad indeed. I always enjoyed to watch him.. ... he was probably an overachiever who never held anything back.
  15. I have not much doubt that Hirschi would have won if it was a clean sprint. He was perfectly placed and had all the momentum when he was blocked by Alaphilipe. Roglic was too far back at that moment and it is extremely unlikely that he would have caught up to a fast sprinter such as Hirschi. Disgraceful riding by Alaphilipe.. he got what he deserved.
  16. Alan was a brilliant rider.. not sure about the overseas results of Robbie and Willie and at what level they achieved it. It is a bit difficult to rate the international performances of SA riders back in those days for the reasons we know. Ryan still has time on his side. I also have some hopes for Stefan de Bod but if NTT goes down he might be left without a ride.
  17. That is the three I had in mind.
  18. Indeed, people often joke about how bad Louis is and that he spends too much time at the back of the peloton but the fact remains that he is as good as it gets in this country. How many world class road cyclists have we produced over the last 30 years? I can think of only three... South Africa is never going to beat Belgium in cycling and Belgium is (probably) never going to beat South Africa in rugby... that is just how it is.
  19. t is unlikely that any of the sprinters will win a stage at the Tour...They just do not have the quality to compete with the real top sprinters imo. Perhaps NTT's best chance for success would be to fully support Nizzolo to compete for the green jersey. He is a one of the most consistent sprinters in the field, an climb a bit and has won the points competition previously at the Giro so I reckon with sufficient dedicated support he might just stand a chance.
  20. He was indeed very gracious.....who knows what would have happened if he did not have to spend the extra energy to catch up after he had a puncture.
  21. To be fair to Trek brand they did excel at the TdF during the years when there were no official winner.
  22. Lovely place. Based on your pic the surf conditions seem to be rubbish today which makes it easier for someone who wishes he was there No excuses for hill repeats though?
  23. If Chappies is not too far from your place of residence you might perhaps be allowed to walk your dog up there on Friday. Maybe not all the way to the top though.
  24. Yeah, and then some of them even have the audacity to try and sit on my wheel when i fly past them on my super fast aero road bike
  25. Very impressive especially as he was up against Sagan (lead -out) and Ackermann in the group that sprinted for the win.
