  1. This is a long shot. Did you lose a copper bracelet during the race? I picked this up on the Kyalami Race Track around 10am yesterday. Please PM me if it's yours.
  2. I use the 15l Evadict and love it. Running, cycling, hiking, it suits each task. Plenty of space, and it's comfortable and not nearly as eye-wateringly expensive as Salomon and other major brands. Salomon is good, there's no denying it: I received an old one from a forum member here. It was very well-used when he paid it forward to me. I think it has been 4 or 5 years now and I still use it on occasion. During the first year of use I discovered a new pocket or pouch almost every time I used it. But, why spend R3k+ when you can get a similar product for under R2k.
  3. With the dropper, or with the Temu order in general?
  4. Recently ordered x2 cycling tops, a bib, and some cycling baggies. Painless experience, once again. The bib is really good quality material. Unfortunately, the fit is wrong in the sense that the chamois bulges in the front and does not look good at all. It is a men's bib, and I am not a man, but I've used men's bibs in the past and never had that problem. However, it still works for indoor rides and I just wear a pair of shorts over them. The baggies are a little big, but very comfortable with ample pockets for snacks. The cycling tops are good quality, and the sizing as per the website was accurate. --- Has anyone ordered a dropper post from Temu? I'm not ready to sink R5k on one locally, and Temu has a couple around the R1300 mark. I saw someone else started a thread about droppers, and one person commented "You get what you pay for", which I understand. But as a casual rider, I accept that I might spend R1k on something that only lasts a year or three. Or maybe, due my casual-ness, it lasts me five!
  5. @V18 you and someone else have mentioned EDC bags a couple of times. Do you have any examples? Thanks.
  6. I got this cycling waist bag on one of their deal things, so it was R300 or R400. The link is being difficult , it's the "outdoor sports vest waist bag". I also have a legit CamelBak Repack (cost R1500). The Temu one is comfortable, spacious, there are lots of nifty pockets that are easily accessible while on the bike or running or hiking. The side pockets easily hold cycling water bottles or regular 500ml water bottles. It's also comfortable to run with. The material and sewing quality appears good. It doesn't come with a bladder. But I'd buy another one before I fork out R1500 on another CamelBak.
  7. Where in CT? If you head out to Paradyskloof just outside of Stellenbosch there are beautiful forest trails. Access is free and there's a variety of open tracks, non-technical single track, easy climbs, hard climbs, you name it.
  8. Hi there, Any updates on the safety of the Dullstroom routes? Looking to do 30-50km, preferably non-technical, but safety is the biggest concern. Also, any recommendations for accommodation for two on a weekend? Bed, hot shower and something to cook on is all that's required Thank you in advance.
  9. Hi Hubbers, Looking for the bolt for a indoor trainer, like the one pictured. In Centurion, but commute to JHB regularly. Thanks
  10. Hi Hubbers, I didn't see a topic for this year's event. We are taking part in the 50 miler, and staying at Sun City on the Friday. The bike transport people only offer transport to the start of the full distance. This is my first time doing this event. Are there any options for transport for the 50 miler? Or if we drive there, an option for the car to be driven back to Sun City (I think I saw this option for the full distance). Many thanks!
  11. Hi Folks, Does anyone know which retailers in Gauteng (preferably towards Centurion) stock the Reebok Nano shoe range? Thank you in advance.
  12. My bad, the mind immediately jumped to "Mountain biking mecca" when you said Stellenbosch 😁 My recommended do's and don't's remain the same, though.
  13. Check out Jonkershoek. And Paradyskloof. And Helderberg Farm. And if you want a really long ride, you could hit them all in one go. Jonkershoek is a nature reserve and requires a permit. I think you still need to buy one online before hand? Helderberg Farm has an honesty box I think. Paradyskloof is free. Do ride in a group Do take a lot of water Do grab a coffee at The Hangar Bike Co (no affiliation, I just really enjoy their coffee, same goes for Ride In in Jonkershoek) Do drink lots of coffee and eat lots of lekker things in Franschhoek Do consider taking pepper spray or mace or something Do watch out for idiots trying to run you over Don't assume vehicles will obey the rules of the road Don't ride after dark Don't flash your phone or money about Don't fall I don't know much about Franschhoek (except for the aforementioned coffee and lekker things) Enjoy!
  14. All good, thanks!
  15. Hi Dev, could I get second dibs if Loco doesn't take it. Thanks.
  16. I have come to accept that I just cannot commit to fast 10k's, or a marathon or even a half marathon right now. But, I did start the Ivy Lifd C25k treadmill plan. Just finished week 3. First 2.5weeks were done on the treadmill, but now I am back on the pavement! It's nice because it's realistic. It doesn't take a lot of time. It doesn't interfere with my strength training and cycling. And you can adapt it. I'm trying to apply training principles such as sprints, tempo runs and long runs, so that not every session is all-out. I'm finally consistently getting my pace below 6min/km. And every run feels great. That's the big thing. I WANT to go and do my run now. Maybe not for the elites here, but useful for someone coming back from injury/sickness, or lacking motivation, or starting out. https://ivylife.ivytech.edu/event/6200831

  19. Hi Folks, Any tips and things to look out for for affordable walking poles for getting into long distance walking and running? Surface will likely be tar and hard-packed stuff. No rocks for now. Thanks!
  20. It sure is a gem of a spot for cycling, hiking, walking, relaxing. And if you want to stretch your legs, you could always head to Riviersonderend for a pie. https://www.theoutbound.com/heather-arnold-2/how-much-do-you-like-pie
  21. Following. I got myself a Naturehike P Series 2 person tent for hiking. The goal is to also get into bike-backing, and it seemed to fit the bill for both. It is light and compact, but once pitched surprisingly spacious. There is a door on both sides, with vestibules on both sides, and lots of room inside. It's easy to pitch and take down. Their customer service is good (my first one had a dodgy seam and they replaced it with a new tent within a week). The second one has been great, and has been tested in decent rain. I have yet to try it in windy conditions but I think it will hold up well. https://www.naturehike.co.za/collections/camping-tents/products/p-series-2-person-tent-1?variant=22820314382417
  22. Sam, there is nothing poor about your writing. I am enjoying sharing your adventure and journey, and am even more motivated to make my Munga dreams a reality! Looking forward to reading the rest.
  23. I have not, but The Bicycle Workshop in Lambton are now Garmin stockists. They’re a friendly helpful bunch and might be able to assist. Ask for Richard 082 905 1150
  24. I use clear safety glasses. Jonsson Workwear have a few styles. Misting... consider using a spray the motorcyclists use on their visors?
