  1. A bit off topic, but I see Serena Williams again had a hissy fit about being tested, for a 6th time, this year and has shown that its double than any other tennis player. Shame, these poor tennis players.
  2. Bigger pity is that most VA "racers" are too scared of new things, being unfitter at races and the cold, in order for us to have a proper sized bunch.
  3. Can I just say, this route was vrek fun. No problems with traffic, anywhere on the route. Traffic marshals did a great job (and still are doing). A bit cold at the start, but was warming up nicely by 8am. Ill deffinatly support again next year.
  4. I know, sad hey. (Im one of them, with an entire team behind him, chasing the merckx record and cannot even get a podium)
  5. I can make a basic cad drawing of it, then attach it to the thread, then if anyone knows of an engineering shop that will make it (cheapishly) they can just mention it here.
  6. So, wanting to upgrade to hydraulic brakes on my CAADX, I saw a good deal on some SRAM FORCE shifters and calipers for a great price. My only problem was that my CAADX still takes a post mount caliper on the fork and these Force calipers are both flat mount. I searched everywhere and NO ONE makes an adapter to make a flat mount caliper fit a Post mount bracket. Through my endless googling I found 1 guy that made his own bracket and this inspired me to make my own "problem solver". So first up was to get what the shape and geometry of the caliper would need to be. I put the caliper so the it sits correctly on the rotor, clamped the brake lever and rotated the wheel ever so slightly until it looked like there was enough space around the post mount brackets to be able to create an adapter. I took a nice side on pic so that I could work out what was needed from the pic. Then in Paint (I know) I draw in the basic shape. I researched the bolt spacing for both calipers and from this I had a blueprint. Now, I only had basic tools to be used, so I found a piece of 5x12mm aluminium flat bar and worked from there. Clamped it in the vice and heated the bar up and the bent it. getting the final sharp inside bend I used a hammer . After getting the basic shape correct, I measured out the hole spacing and drilled those, taking great care with the flat mount spacing and countersink. and then a lot of filing and sanding to get the final shape. After fitting the caliper was not aligned with the rotor,. I first tried bending in place, but soon found out that this is not a good idea. This meant that I repeatedly had to take off the adapter, bend it slightly in the vice and then refit to check, but I finally managed to get it lined up correctly. Only thing that was still miscalculated was that I needed spacers underneath the adapter, on the post mount brackets, in order to lift the caliper enough so that the rotor does not make contact with the top of the caliper. Was fun making this, but its strange that a company like problem solvers does not make an adapter like this, maybe its because of most frames being too different with the filling in between the post mount brackets. But still, I got it to work and its solid and does not affect braking in any way. Maybe I could get one machined on a later stage and get it anodized black, but for now this is 100%. Now others with the same problem has an idea how to solve it.
  7. Anyone else having problems going over to the pay tab after adding entrants?
  8. I also think a lot of people don't bother searching, if its not on the first 3 pages, they just think there isn't anything they want available. I have seen numerous times people putting up wanted ads for something that's for sale on page 5, at a great price. I wonder if admin has stats on how many people only visit the first 3 pages, how many go through the categories and how many use the search function for classifieds?
  9. I can say that I did not hear of a lot of incidents really. Most people were really happy, because they got PBs on this distance. I liked the route and, being in the racing groups, the last 20 km was really challenging and made for tough racing, everything you want in a race. I was also glad to see how clean the city looked and the venue at the start/finish was super.
  10. To be honest, people will moan, its the human way. Just take a look on twitter and in the news papers after something like 947. I can say that I did see boards on street lamps mentioning the road closures wherever we had closure on the route, but I dont know when they went up. For all we know, a lot of effort could have been done already, but because people dont care until it influences them, it could have been ignored for weeks. They did advertise that the race would start at Germiston Lake and have full road closure already from last year sometime, maybe someone could just have taken interest and have looked at it in that time and laid a complaint before the event took place? But its cycling, not Rugby, so ignore it until it becomes a problem.
  11. Thinking of it now, When we came up to the N17, at the end of the on-ramp, there was no clear indication which side should be used. Vehicles were blocking the left lane and a barrier the right. I wonder if we weren't supposed to be using the left, but as soon as the elites passed, they let the cars go on the left as well. In the photos there are almost not cars next to the Juniors (?) bunch, but when we were going passed there(about 15min later) the queue was constant. But ja, it was strange that we used the right lane, meaning we would need to cross traffic twice. Otherwise, it was a great route. The venue and surrounding area was nice and clean. I just wonder how many people jumped into earlier groups? Seeing as there was no way to police this with the race numbers.
  12. Event Name: TrapNET 360 When: 22 July 2018 Where: SuperSport Park Centurion, Gauteng Category: Road Please vist our website at www.trapnet.co.za for more. Go to Event Page
  13. Damit, so they actually took out 2 of the hills that hurt a lot towards the end.
  14. http://www.strava.com/segments/9346907
  15. Think there are over 90 teams entered (if I am correct)
  16. Classifieds are already 99% rim brake stuff in the road section, so don't think that's going to increase. Actually, we will be seeing less rim brake stuff and more disc stuff.
  17. Sorry, wrong. But I have been around the block enough.
  18. Sorry, but late entry was your own fault. Be glad there is some prize money for the kids, if it were me Id give them only a trophy, teach them to race for the love of racing, not the money. What if he came 4th, would you have complained then again? Get your priorities straight.
  19. Just got to the map as well. This makes the first 20km a lot harder too, placing 2 "drags/climbs", that was normally towards the end, at the start. Could mean smaller bunches through the valley though.
  20. Just got an SMS mentioning that the venue has moved to Maropeng, wonder how they will be changing the route to accommodate.
  21. So again a revival of something old. Anyone attending this weekend?
  22. Does anyone know how the race numbering works? Theres no batching info in the sms, only a number? Are we using SAS boards?
  23. Just bad/strange. First no news, then news that ASG is now part (including price hike, quoting increase is due to lack of sponsor) now cancelled, quoting lack of sponsor. Its just sad. ASG has saved a lot of races, although making them more expensive, but the race lived on. Although it had become too expensive for me, its still sad to lose such a great race.
  24. Correct me if Im wrong, but has this also been cancelled now?
  25. Good news, but hopefully doesnt follow in the footsteps of the Giro del Capo, tour de eden, tour de freestate, cell c tour of sa, etc. etc. Maybe having an outside company organise it is the trick?
