  1. There are a few things that I think skews the sales figures a lot. A lot of guys put a lot of stuff into one advert (especially shops). These sales never gets reported as sales and no price is ever attached. I would remove the ability to list more than one item per advert (a groupset is seen as one item) And also, seems like Bikehubpay is a good income generator. 😎 It does work however.
  2. Ill check what size, the one I have, is.
  3. That road is fairly quiet and only carries local traffic most of the time. It does have some farming trucks on it, but not a lot. Have a rear light on and you should be fine. The worst I have had on that stretch are people coming from the front overtaking each other while you are "in their way"
  4. I drive the piece of Pelindaba road (R104) every day. The piece between the Lanseria road (R512) and The traffic light at Pelindaba gate 3 I will not recommend at any time. The road has lots of potholes and 2 truck cannot pass each other without having wheels off of the road. DO NOT RISK YOUR LIFE ON THIS ROAD EVER. People from NW also drive this part as if its a quiet farm road. Rather go over the bridge, over the dam wall, through harties (the main road is very busy and also not wide, so ride through the suburbs), then you can to Saartjies nek and also head out on the Hennops road towards Sandton. Or as suggested do the Satellite road or you can even ride towards Lanseria and the Cradle, as they have widened this road a small bit.
  5. The lead car and driver is supplied by the organiser, not CSA. Yes, a shortcut and advantage was had by taking the incorrect route. Instead of climbing over a total blockage, the correct thing to do would be to turn around and go back to where you went off course. This is the same rule in all these types of sport. In the rules it states that its your responsibility to know the route. It was on the website, the gpx was emailed and there are enough places that indicate which way around you should go. Sometimes the lead vehicles do deviate from the route, especially where its dangerous to have a vehicle on the same part as the cyclist. If her manager was there, why did he not correct them? And Im sorry, her manager does not understand road cycling and is not putting her in a better light in my eyes. It is a **** situation, but if you listen to Ashleighs interview, where she stated that there was confusion, because before Kyalami the gap was 1:30 and after it was 3:30. A 2min advantage is not a small advantage, especially taking in mind that Ash finished les than a minute behind her. Congrats to her for taking the chance and going early, but it was too big a mistake to ignore.
  6. I always find it interesting in the local racing bunches, when some of the guys get closer to the front and ask, "is there a break up the road?" after the bunch have been chasing for 30km.
  7. @guidodg Your carbon rim repair should be quite easy and straight forward without any hazards. @Kerchak Unfortunately with the Alu rims it it replace and throw away, something that I hate in the bike industry.
  8. Same, I have to drive an hour to work and an hour back. Unfortunately those were my life choices. I did cycle to work for a while, but it becomes a lot, 2 hours to work and 2 hours back and I haven't done that after a car took me out just before lockdown. I did not like riding a trainer, but a smart trainer and zwift changed that a lot and I now appreciate the flexibility and safety. Id rather spend the money on working to counter Eskom, than more lights and more hospital bills.
  9. The problem is, it has been done, numerous times, it does not work. So if not crossing a 10cm thick white line in the road is the thing that is keeping you "safe" while 10ton truck speed past you from the front at 100km/h, then so be it. But how about having bike marshals and lead vehicles that actually slow down traffic and make the route safer, allowing racing to take place. Or put cones down the center line crating a physical barrier. Again, not saying its smart to cross the white line with oncoming traffic.
  10. I agree with you on all levels and feel half the same. I even went to the front and asked the guys nicely to rather keep it safe and try and keep left, pacing on the white line just got everyone DQd. But this is where SA cycling gets me frustrated. Cycling SA has to decide if they want racing or fun riding. I have been cycling for 25 years and the issue of racing bunches crossing the white line has been there forever. Guess which races does not have this problem? Races with full road closure and races that give racing bunches rolling closure, keeping them safe while allowing racing. With a bunch that big there is no way in containing 100+ riders in one lane, especially with the wind as it was. The Elite races are struggling with this now for a few races, they want racing on a world class level, but offer nothing in return. They threaten you with fines if you just want to discuss the situation, but bend the UCI rules to their will. If they want to encourage safe cycling at a high level, contribute to the safe part at least.
  11. I'm just wondering, is National curfew still a thing at the moment? First batches start at 6am, so if you want to be at the venue an hour before the start, then you cannot stay more than one hours drive away from the venue. Seeing as this venue is quite out of town, would a 7am start not have been a bit smarter? bad luck to everyone staying in the southern Gauteng regions.

    Medals at events

A participation medal is such a waste. Its nice for one day and then gets tossed into a bin. If I had to hang all my medals a wall would collapse. When I was younger there used to be someone at the finish that would engrave your finish time and position onto the medal for a small fee, at least then you had recollection of what was achieved at that event. I would rather say, people that want a "memento" or "participation award" should buy one at entry, for an additional fee. This can be something where the use a small frame, styled for the event and in it is a finish photo stating also finish time, distance and placing for the event. This then gets mailed to all finishers that paid for it. If you did not finish, send them what was your bad luck with a photo of that, at least then you also get a reminder.
  13. Lotto-Soudal staying on Ridley, but moved to Shimano components, KMC chains and DT-swiss wheels. Or are you talking Cape-Epic?
  14. Well, just take a clear pic of the detail printed on the axle maybe? Then anyone can compare. From what I can see, your axle is for a 110mm x15mm hub axle with a M14x1.5mm Thread and for a Fox. The 110 would suggest Boost fork. Otherwise google the Part Number - 620-09-063? its 820-09-063 Edit: I see his part number on his axle is 820-00-203, so not sure its compatible.
  15. Its nice that, in these days, you can Earn national colors for learning to race, just pay for it yourself. Around 2010, SA did have a base in Europe that could be used by anyone wanting to RACE in Europe, I cannot remember the costs. I once attended a World Champs for students, quickly learned that its not a great experience if you haven't raced in those conditions. Seeing that you cannot finish a road race in an important event does more damage when you are used to being the race maker. Get there first and know what to expect.
  16. Actually no, I think your entire installation is correct, but I do however think that this frame is optimized for wider tyres. That model SRAM RED crank was used in the time that 23mm tyres were fat and 25mm was huge. One thing that you could try, if you have to use this crank, is get a chainring bolt that sits flush with your blade. Unfortunately with the advent of wider tyres, the chainline was widened in most groupsets, by about 2mm, in order to prevent this. Once again, no spacers is needed between frame and BB, no spacers are needed on the crank axle. a wave washer can be used on the DS, but is not needed. The early SRAM RED cranks did have the NDS crank pull in right up to the BB.
  17. 2 questions: 1. What BB did you use (be very specific) 2. Did you put any spacers between the BB and Frame on the NDS. GXP only regulates the chainline with the NDS BB bearing, seeing as this is the one that gets "captured" by the crank and axle. If the blade is making contact with the frame, then something is taking up space on the NDS. No hammering is ever needed with these types of BBs.
  18. @Mountain Bru Alu cranks are fine, no bonded insert there. @Jewbacca Not all of these boots fit really snug, some are also from a harder plastic. It can vibrate on rough terrain probably. If you silicone them onto the crank it should eliminate the problem probably. Not sure 100% myself why, but I have seen it on some of my own cranks and have seen it mentioned a lot. (for the life of me I cannot find a nice pic of it anywhere)
  19. Those crank boots get dust between the boot and the crank. I have seen more failed cranks because of that dust than any other reason. It grinds the carbon away around the insert and creates a weak spot. That black dust all over the tip of his crank, thats carbon dust.
  20. Do you want to shorten just to save the crank? Shortening is a very complicated and laboursome job. You cannot just drill a hole and tap it. It is quite easy and safe to just fix the loose insert. the hardest is cleaning the cavity, then drilling a hole to inject resin into the cavity formed by the loose insert and then keeping it aligned while setting, so that your pedal does not have a wobble. Graeme can fix it back to perfect for you, check his instagram, he has done it loads before. And PS, stop using crank boots.
  21. I have one that I use with my EDGE 130. Its only older units it does not work with. The newest ones also have Bluetooth, so can work with a phone app as well. Most other big GPS manufacturers also work with it, like Wahoo.
  22. Well, that would depend mostly of off your upbringing. Most people think they deserve everything more than others.
  23. Firstly, I am not condoning the cyclists and riding like that even frustrates me when Im cycling. But NOBODY is FORCING the Van driver to break the law , overtaking (probably over a solid line) and endangering Himself, other motorists and the cyclists, with his choice of being impatient and reckless. It was still his choice, no matter what obstacle is in his way, be it a skedonk, moortoe Taxi, donky car, trolly surfer, drunkard walking or a cyclist.
  24. People that have felt the pain would understand. Although, I last had flat pedals on the bike I delivered newspapers with.
  25. TBH, Alan deserves a 7,5 at least too, if not an 8. Bigger competition that AMP and if it wasn't for a poor start, he could have been very close to that podium.
