  1. the app maps the route onto Google Maps so detail is great
  2. My iphone with Strava app lasts 6 hours plus without a hitch
  3. Pity your timing was out, I always carry 2 spares and ride along there nearly every day. Had a flat yesterday and 5 guys asked if I was OK.
  4. I could say buy an iPhone..... but that would open a can of worms.
  5. some nice apps on the Apple app store
  6. Ones with wings?
  7. And for a ride on the flat side and away from cars there is the cycle lane from the CBD to Bloubergstrand for a nice day trip.
  8. I don't think you guys need worry. Specially with 100s of other cyclists on the road at that time of year. Dodge the taxis and the drunken jaywalkers and don't piss off an angry granny in a 4x4 and otherwise just have fun.
  9. I'd go for the Giant TCR1, the Cannondale CAAD8 or the Merida Ride Lite 94. And V12man is correct - swap out the wheels as that is normally where the stock bikes save a lot of their cost.
  10. I'd say go for the compact crank. I have a compact on my cafe bike and the lower gearing is very noticeable on hills
  11. On the Tacx website there is a pic of one. Perhaps they do sell?
  12. Its a good excuse to buy a new bike..... grin
  13. I would phone the guys at Revolution Cycles. They have a nice Felt and a Spez in your price bracket... Otherwise I'd go for the Scott.
  14. Point taken.... It depends on awareness
  15. Yep, that section at the bridge is damn dangerous if there are pedestrians etc. littering the road. And as for earphones.... even passing a tjop with earphones is a difficult thing as you know they don't hear you and when you pass they get a fright and swerve madly. My freewheel sounds like a bag of angry hornets and 90% of the time people hear me behind them, but if the have phones in .....
  16. wrenchscience.com www.pricepoint.com www.competitivecyclist.com three more reputable US stores
  17. Alternately never use the brakes
  18. My chip threads through one of the straps on my shoe perfectly. I have also seen the chip threaded through a velcro strap around the ankle.
  19. I'd look at the little Avalanche bikes or the little Spesh bikes if budget isn't that important.
  20. Hmmmm, no comment... I have seen a pair delaminate down a hill. But then again, it has been known to happen to most brands of carbon clinchers. And they do look awesome.
  21. Everybody doped in the day and everyone will still try anything to get an edge. I just think its much more difficult getting away with doping these days... I'd like to believe that there is less doping now, but one never knows. You will now find the guys pumping themselves full of enough Cortisone do dose a racehorse when training and stopping on race days.... Cortisone is still legal
  22. The correct number of bikes to own is n+1 where n is your current amount of bikes so it's a no brainier really. And I slashed 30 minutes off my Argus time with a roadbike.
  23. I have a pair that I am willing to rent out ... Brand new ... At R30k per event.... any takers?
  24. If no fabric in the package and parts only you should be paying VAT only as far as I am aware.
  25. Single speed isn't scary at all (if you don't plan on riding up huge mountains or plan on going fast). Think of all the kids on their BMX bikes.... one gear and they go everywhere.
