  1. A Cycles Direct rider named Brendon was knocked down in Paarden Eiland this am. Seems like a Bantem bakkie coming from the opposite direction, never saw him, turned in front of him and Brendan rode into the side of the bakkie. He seems OK and besides some cuts has some upper body (ribs??) pain.
  2. Cytomax is good but FiT is better.
  3. Howdi - Having a mini fight about how many km's a person should get from a BB? Please mention if stats come from a half bike or double the fun
  4. Dear Mrs. Collins, I have been directed by your Public Relations Office to write direct to you with our request. The Cape Town based Pedal Power Association represents 14910 members, and one of its aims is to promote safer cycling. One of the problems at this time of the year, is the increase of cyclists on the road training for the Cycle Tour that takes place in March. There are annually incidents that involve cyclists and busses from your company that may have been avoided if both the cyclists and the drivers were more aware of each others situations and conditions. To this end, Pedal Power would welcome an opportunity to briefly address your drivers to explain the situation from a cyclists perspective and what drivers should be on the look out for what may seem erratic cyclist behaviour. For instance, there are occasions that it may appear that cyclists just swerve into the road. This is mainly to avoid potholes or glass. There are many more examples we can give. We would see this opportunity to address the drivers as extending a hand of co-operation to make the roads safer and friendlier for both the cyclist and drivers. If you are able to find some time to discuss this idea, either by telephone or a meeting, please do contact me at this e-mail address or telephone at (0) 021-7047240 or Cell 084 3034294. Kind Regards, Steve Hayward: Chairman, Pedal Power Association.
  5. Got about 3000 km on the tandem before replacing the one chain - only problem is that the timing chain (one joining stoker and pilot) is made up of 3 half bike chains. So far back chain has given me 4500km and still looking good.
  6. As a kick start and and something that acts like a shotgun they are very good but be aware besides turning your wee a bright yeollow the boost that you get isnt that noticible.
  7. Is this the first time you are using disk brakes? Big H (and others who have disk brakes) I would love to know more about tandems and disk brakes as seems like from other forums is that this is an issue with huge conflicting answers. Scary thing is that at the 94.7 is shocked me to see just how many tandem (while I was in the start shutes) had their brakes rigged up incorrectly.
  8. NickyG - maybe you should go double up so that your stoker can be your extra eyes. Just kidding and hope you get well soon.
  9. and makes you strong like Mother Russia
  10. Presume it can be seen like that only problem is that the bike becomes double the weight. Hills are quite the opposite and purely based on strenghth. Pomping wind behind you is also another ding. Imagine doing 65 - 70km/h and a HR of 45% of max. Did that one day coming from Cape Town with a + 40km wind from the back and in places even overtook cars. Was kinda funny seeing their expressions as we cruised past.
  11. Going double up means half the wind resistance and double the speed of a half bike.
  12. Hey its not my fault if no-one likes you
  13. Very naaice Peter but would look so much naaicer if it was a whole bike.
  14. Is there a choice? Get away from that solo life, break free and get a real life by going double up.
  15. and I transport my tandem on trapezium. Have seen some awesome tandem racks which I would love to import but are just a little too costly. Maybe I should chat to a local manufacturer about made a RSA made tandem carrier.
  16. Yep is does help eliminate the deadspot. In the USA offsetting the cranks by up 5 teeth is very popular and the general feeling is that it does help especially on the climbs however when it comes to racing (and trust me they are big into racing tandems with up to 50 tandems competing on tight 1 - 3 km circuits) not only are the cranks in sync, but they are shortened by up to 5 cm. I have seen pics of tandems going thru corners that wil scare the living daylight out of all of us and there can be no room for error. Me versus offsetting cranks versus oval rings - no thanks as it looks very uncool and rather perfect the full circle (push, scape, pull)
  17. Sent mine
  18. Get well soon
  19. It's the pack dog syndrome - it can turn the most well behaved dog into a monster.
