Can relate to that one. Went thru du Toits Kloof tunnel and was one of the scariest sensations ever - total darkness except for the light at the end and to to make it worse as we went thru there was a mini waterfall that hit us. Max speed - on the tandem just sub 100 on both Tiekie Draai (Cape Town side) and Hellshoogte (Pniel side) but never in the rain.

Gonna be in PE and they have informal groups leaving form all over the place traversing some awesome roads.

I use it on the 555EXPRESS and 10 kms before the end of the WCE we punctured - had a bit of goo spray over the frame, legs and on my shoes but still made it to the end without stopping. Only 2 big disadvantage 1. When the stuff gets old (6 - 8 months) it does not work and best to throw tube away. 2. When you do puncture with old stuff or cut the tire - man it is beeg time messy.

Wheelsucker - that sounds like a name for a rider of a half bike. Its hard to guestimate how many will be there but I know that in 2004 there was about 15 and last year about 10. I am hoping that there will be more than that this year but I can tell you that the 555 EXPRESS and WW will be there.

Dont mean to sound like an old man but the big thing is safety. The H20 marshals are supposed to make you stop and take it water and not do it while flying past them. That is also why they are like at the ACT, off the road edge - I am sure we have all seen the village idiot flying past, grabbling a satchet and then having a huge wobble. To make it worse - now imagine you next to him while he has the wobble.

My advice is dont go cheap as you are gonna regret it when you have to change BB's, chains (a tandem can take 3 half bike chains), seats, cleats, posts and so the list goes on. Buying double up is no diff to buying half a bike - you always upgrade so just do it now. For more than just above entry go Raleigh or Ravo (I have one and is super happy and even Fatty could not break it) or if ye got the RSA Dollars, go Cannondale or Trek. My upgrade choice - Cannondale with Ultegra.

There are several options out there and all boils down to mixture of RSA dollars, what tickles your fancy, what you want to do with the tandem and possibly the biggest factor is the relationship betweem the stoker and pilot. Actually wasn't that bad, Gerard set a good pace, controlled the bunch and the bunch was big enough to have a decent rest.

Hey its Tuesday today and the wind is pomping so Killarney is gonna have the two extremes, + 50k's/h downwind and sub 20's into the wind. Fatboy, hope you are gonna be there as we need some shelter.
