  3. Don't forget that you're also tied in to a 12 month contract which is my biggest issue with the whole gym membership thing. The Idea of not being able to cancel something you are not using really doesn't sit well with me...ohh and don't get me started on the R 160.00 (if I remember correctly) once off fee I had to pay last time I went with a member to try out the gym.
  4. I wonder if some of the more experienced hubbers can offer an opinion. I've done a couple of races now and have managed get an A seeding for the last couple and gotten my seeding index to below 20. While I enjoy most of the races (except the dischem ride4sight) I'm getting a bit tired of hearing carbon cracking all around me every race, to the point where I'm wondering if it's worth the risk. So here's the question, I'm considering upgrading to a full race licence under the assumption that riding with the more experienced Vets would be a lot safer. Is this the case or am I fooling myself?
  5. is that a price tag on the front wheel?
  6. Disgusting!!! The two guys at the back really should have been making more of an effort to stick with the bunch before they got to the climb.
  7. If you can't fix it with the barrel adjuster take it to your LBS. You can really mess up your shifting if you don't know what you're doing and even end up shifting into your wheel etc which might be bad...
  8. Interested. Should be over a long weekend when people don't have to work and roads are quieter.
  9. Previous gen Bianchi Oltre? R 36,450.00
  10. Looks like a nice event. Pity it's not racetec, really don't feel like getting another chip just for one race.
  11. Someone forgot a pair of sidi shoes on left verge just after finish. Think was in AL. Handed in at 32gi stand.
  12. You could just get a whole lot of people together, hire a bus for the weekend and hook a bike trailer on the back. Not sure on costs but if you divide it by 30 or so people it might just make sense.

  14. Just saw a tweet about about an apparent hit and run involving a cyclist on William Nicol this morning. Fatal. Anybody have any more info?
  15. Great comment but I want to add another perspective... For many people (especially first timers and those new to the sport) posting a good time or PB is a huge motivator and a great achievement whether that is accomplished by sitting in a bunch the whole way or slogging it out on their own. The fact is that they did not just wake up one day, decide to ride the 94.7 and magically got seeded in C bunch to get pulled along they whole way, it's not that simple. After not having been on a bike since my paper round 20 years ago I borrowed a bike and started riding with the aim of posting a decent time in the 94.7. Being somewhat competitive and determined that involved getting up at 5am and riding in single digit temperatures 4 times a week with people who are much stronger, getting dropped on every single hill and bump and politely greeting people as they whizzed past in the cradle. 4 months, 2000+ km of training rides,10kg and 1 decent fall later as well as slowly working my way up the seeding index with a couple of other races I managed an "L" group start for the 94.7. While there wasn't much of a bunch to speak of in "L" I did manage to draft for several sections but also pulled my weight in the front when called upon to finish in 2h53 on my first attempt. The people who managed a good enough seeding to draft to a sub 3 probably worked their butts off the get there in the first place and earned the right to suck wheel every now again. Besides, working as a team and achieving a good time is probably more rewarding than a lonely grind to the finish.
  16. Had the same thing, thinner socks and not tightening the straps too much solved the problem.
  17. Yup, most are gone. Results have been a disaster from the start, first there was someone who apparently completed the 80km in 1h39 and a couple of other funnies, then they corrected that and some new amazing times appeared and now this. Not sure what's so difficult about this.
  18. Has anyone looked at the results for the 80km. Surely the winning time is a mistake???
  19. Same question, I only started riding recently and have only done 2 events so far but hoping for a decent result in the Jacaranda Satellite next week. Isn't that supposed to be a seeding event as well?
  20. I have a pair of Pearl Izumi Elite and a pair of Pearl Izumi Pro. The padding on the Pro is thinner than on the Elite but somehow more comfortable. Also seems to be a tighter fit than the Elite so check the size. However I discovered this morning that the Pros have worn trough at the edge of the chamois after only 5 or so rides! Going back to LBS today to throw my toys.
