  1. Absolutely- apple, as the number one watch seller in the world (not just smart watches), has a lot of folks who are loyal to the brand.
  2. Spent a bit more time on my counter top. Resin dried, sanded it progressively through to 320 grit and then applied osmo oil uv protector. Delighted with the finish, although will lighten over the next couple of days as it dries. This project has really gotten me interested In working with resin, so might try something else with it next.
  3. You make it look so easy …..
  4. 😂 we’ve come a long way since we both rode our first mtb 100k ride together using our phones to measure distance and doing a few extra to make sure.
  5. I have to say I wouldn’t buy a Fenix or an ultra at full price as it is beyond my needs, but as I work for the company and get a significant discount, as well as wanting to represent the brand and to want to properly get to know the product, I tend to buy the newest stuff when I can even remotely justify it. Told my wife I could use it for scuba diving and she reminded me that I haven’t done scuba since 2004. Told her I could use it for cycling and she asked why I have an edge 😂
  6. Fair enough. I suspect that the vast majority of Fenix pro or Epix owners, as well as Ultra owners, would not fall into the category of ultra runners that you describe. But, for that category, the Garmin is undoubtedly the watch to go for. End of the day, we mostly all love toys and gadgets and tend to buy far higher spec in most things than we would actually ever need, which is fine and had pretty much always been the case.
  7. What battery life would you consider to qualify as an “Ultra” watch? Not arguing, just genuinely interested.
  8. As I said, haven’t been exercising. Even if I was, I wouldn’t be training for 47 hours
  9. A few days of using the watch ultra and it is incredible. Battery life after 47 hours was still 21%, which, compared to my previous apple watches, is brilliant. Screen clarity is off the charts and it works seamlessly. I’ve been unwell these past few weeks, so haven’t exercised at all, but I’m confident that it’ll do the business there as well. Battery life won’t allow me to trek through the alps for ten days without a charge, but I’m unlikely to do that, so it fits my purpose perfectly. Only criticism for me is inability to link power meter to the native cycling app, but there are plenty of apps that can do that seamlessly on the watch.
  10. Go and jump. Why would a second hand bike have to have plugs declared before purchase?
  11. Now you’re just trolling. How dare you try and make *** for a dealer in this economic climate with nonsense like this complaint? You should apologise to them.
  12. Maybe he dropped the dog turd on MVDP's stoep, rung the bell and then got a klap for his troubles. Since then he's probably been with the cops discussing who did what.
  13. I'm absolutely from that time. If, however, my kids were being stupid and an adult moered them like someone once did to me, I would probably end up in prison. Just because it happened when we were young, doesn't make it acceptable.
  14. Plug is a permanent fix, not a "get me home" solution as far as I'm concerned
  15. Got the new watch today. Still need to explore the capabilities, battery life etc, but initial impressions are that it is stunning, really well made and intuitive
  16. Thought this was a decent review. His “who is it for” bit at the end is pretty good Another good review
  17. Thanks - It is a beast, but beautiful
  18. Thought I'd share a bit. Been working on a project for the past while (paused for the last week as I've been sick as a dog) - to build an outdoor counter. Started with a massive (4 metre) piece of fairly fresh wood (Monterey Cedar) and no idea of what to really do. Lots of youtube later and I built a base for the counter Cut my countertop piece to 9almost) size and spent lots of time sanding. After lots and lots of sanding, I decided that I wanted to use the other side, so flipped it and went to work again. Once all of the holes full of rot and bark and stuff were clear, needed to then learn about resin, so back to YouTube. Some of the holes were significant in size and went right through the wood, so had to block in three areas of the underside with some creative use of wood, tape and silicone. Built small dams around the top side of the holes (some more effective than others) and then poured the various mixes of resin (4 pours in total for some of the bigger holes) and then left them to cure. So, next task, once I'm back on my feet, is to sand the resin, sand the table and then treat with a UV protecting oil. After that, need to work out how to cut and finish correctly to fit on the base. Hoping to get it all done in the next couple of weeks,
  19. I have the 530 on the bike and use the Garmin chest strap because it seems to last really well. For me, the iPhone, the Apple Watch, the HomeKit and the AirPods work so seamlessly together that the Apple Watch makes sense, but then I also don't do multi-day adventure events and stuff. I also work for Apple, so am maybe more personally invested in the products.
  20. Garmin make awesome devices. Apple make awesome devices. I use both for different purposes and rate them awesome in different ways. Both have a reputation for standing behind their products and for constant innovation, so device choice can be down to personal preference, preferred ecosystem, personal use case etc. I always laugh though when folks think that rubbishing another product somehow will make their choice seem better. There’s plenty of preferences out there and each person makes their own choice.
  21. In the UK you get a two week no questions asked returns policy on Apple products, so I'm keen to wear the watch for a week or so and see what it feels like. You also have a couple of weeks to send in your old watch for trade-in so, worst case, I can just return the new watch and keep the old one.
  22. Depends what you want to get out of it I suppose. The dual band GPS, the incredibly tough and chunky build, the buttons, the multi-sport options, the dive computer, the dive watch style straps and the longer battery life all appeal to me, none of which are available on the standard 8. Having said that, I hardly find time to ride my bike at the moment, let alone go on epic adventures.
  23. I'll need to have a look and see if there's anyone that offers that nearby, although the wood os pretty softy so rotary sander is not a big chore. Have to pour epoxy into the holes in the wood on Saturday, which should be interesting.
