    BRT take 2

I phoned them as i was fearing my life on the railway crossings. I wanted to buy non slip material to put on the railway lines. Just a meter into the road, not the whole rail. The answer was that as it stands they are allowing cyclists through but will be closing it to public traffic soon. Reason being is that it is private property and is accessed controlled. You will need to show ID and a reason for using that road in the future. You can already see that they are doing vehicle and body searches. They also from time to time ask us why we riding there. http://www.tradeinvestsa.co.za/news/981082.htm http://ports.co.za/cape-town.php Can always phone and ask for a reason, number provided in link above. I may be wrong but I think the port is only letting us through until the BRT is up and running. If anyone has any further info or contacts who can give more detail, please let us know.

    Who is keen?
  3. Contact Hairy, He did it this morning on his SS
  4. I also got mine from RAD006 then they moaned cos he sold all their stock in a short space of time. In the Cape I have heard that you can get from Williams in SSW (Unconfirmed) and Bowmnans in the CBD. I wanted something more fluid this time round.
  5. Is that the all terrain sludge? Slime pro is in the bicycling and I had it in my hands last night. The slime pro is about R145 for 8 tyres. Sludge is R150 for 2 tyres. Always good to have spare sealant lying around. There is also a MAXXIS PRO sealant coming out due to the amount of warranty claims from delamination.
  6. Let me first see what brand tubes they are then you can ask your LBS. I am getting them from good old SOLOPED here in Cape Town.
  7. I am getting my hands on a couple of presta valve 20" tubes for a ghetto tubeless. Price to be confirmed. (I paid R50 each as the LBS is unsure of how much they wil actually cost. If its less he will give me some money back.) Let me know if you interested so I can let the LBS know if its worth his while carrying stock.
  8. Plenty Sealants out there. Availability is the issue. I have realised that STANS is probably the most obtainable sealant. This will need to be considered when its time for top-ups as you dont want to mix. Where do you guys get OKO In CT? Where does one get JB Ultraseal? Every bike shops has STANS although there seems to be a dry spell on conversion kits.
  9. Okay, I just went to get some sludge and these guys need to pick up their game. They come in 100ml/200ml bottles. Its one bottle per tyre which costs R150 for both tyres. Can get 900ml of stans for close to that from CWC/buycycle. Going to put it in my tyre tonight and see how well it seals
  10. Floodgate is for when you are locked out and hit a bump. It allows for mistakes. With this feature you can ride up trails and when you forget to unlock on a flat section, you dont break your arms when you hit a hectic bump.
  11. I am also interested in the Sludge. The website says they are tried and tested and they also sponsor the cape outback. I am currently using OKO in my tubes and no-flats (The blue one) in my tubeless. The sealant need to get to the side walls which OKO/No-flats wont do especially in "tubeless ready" tyres.
  12. Its the same with pregnant woman, you get used to the weight over time and its not an issue. When you suddenly put a few kilos in a bag on your belly or on your back its totally different. Someone weighing 100kg+ will have stronger muscles than someone 70kg's This was just to stir and is far from true.

PM Sent. The Harbour route will be closed soon and the railway tracks make for some "interesting" riding. The freeway is very risky. We ride on the outside of the harbour fence along the N1.
  14. We all seem to have different wake up times. I get up, have some coffee while i dress and fill my back pack with water. Sometimes if i am lucky a rusk or toast or jungle bar. Then i go for my ride or race. This will usually mean that by the fourth hour of my ride the worms are dictating that i get something to keep them company. Usually McD's on the way out from Jonkers. I wish I could eat when i wake up but i just cant. I have tried taking stuff with me and eating before the ride but I just feel yukky.

    BRT take 2

Want to ride the BRT cycle lanes again this Friday. Perhaps if they see us using it more they will feel like it was worth the extra work to put the cycle route in. Meet at the corner of ICC by the circle at 17:00 - 17:15 this Friday 20th August. As there are workers till sundown it is a good idea to have some flashy lights
  17. At this stage it is not finished (sandy bits, robots not functioning to control traffic). Guesstimate maybe 2 months. They still need to make the cycle path from the flea market to paarden island somehow. As you start the route here in town you pass about 4 or 5 groups of people who are under the bridge. then it turns into a very nice cycle path and then changes from here on out. It goes through some very quiet places with hiding spots for "wanna be" muggers. I stand to be corrected but if they want to protect their investment in some of theses quiet places they will require security. Glass is a funny thing, it attracts stones in poor areas. Doubt any of the lights are working. Shall we plan a ride for every Friday so we can track progress? Still would need it to be a group ride.
  18. Eish, dont do this route alone.
  19. Neither does mine:) Will do it next week again if all goes well today.
  20. Will be at the corner of the ICC at the circle with the statue on it.
  21. You didnt reply to my mail i sent a long time ago and now they are probably MORE worn. Does this mean R50 less than the original price discussed?
  22. Schwalbes sizing is wrong. 2.1 is tiny so only get the 2.25, especially for Tokai.

    Zula geometry

NO The Zula is a tough bike but is nothing like the Shova. I purchased the ZULA, changed my fork fromm 100 to 120 and didnt really notice a difference. A mate put on a 130 and I have seen a 140. If you want the shova feel then get the shova. I tried using my zula as a trail bike but ended up getting a shova just for the trail feel. If you comparing apples, the Shova has more clearance for tires and ground clearance. You can feel the strength and longer travel on the Shova, but both bikes are fun when used in there respective feilds. The SHOVA eats everything up at Tokai and Jonkers where as the Zula is super fun on XC rides like the Burger and Sani (barring the tire/mud clearance issue)
  24. My last pair of shoes were demolished by the eggbeaters. The I got the shoe shield. The shield is taking strain and it seems as if you need to replace cletas and shields at same time. They wear quickly so it an extra R500 a year...thats without the service kit. Even with these issues I still love my CB's and intend on getting the updated version as soon as budget allows.
  25. There is always a bunch of us that leave at 7 ish on a Thursday night. Mainly trail riding with as little jeep track as possible. Park at the shopping mall, Steenberg next to the prison so your car doesnt lose any windows.
