  1. Just a warning with Scwalbes, the sizes are not spot on. Get the 2.25 for the front as the 2.1 looks like a 1.9

    Torque

Where do you guys get your torque values? I have looked at ritchey and they say half the torque as others eg the stem. Ritchey say 5Nm others say 10 - 11.3Nm
  3. Weight is the only comparable difference IMO
  4. Hmmm, mixed advice. Did it for the first time this year. Only "training" I did was to ride my bike every weekend. Sani has about 4 hills if i remember correctly, no walk in the park but nothing to overtrain for. Time would be best spent riding your MTB on the weekend and have a few beers afterwards with your old man...thats how the real SANI ADVENTURE is.

    Bike Service

Collect the bike yourself so you can inspect it. Once got my bike back with the shock the wrong way a round and missing a few bits when a mate collected it for me.
  7. Does the mongoose have a red fork? Saw one on Koeberg this morning.
  8. Cant you send this out in your newsletter as well?
  9. The Pedal Power Association is fortunate to annually receive profits from the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust. While some of the profits received is retained to run the Association and support cycling and specifically the 60-odd funrides on the annual PPA funride calendar, the majority of profits received is allocated to cycling-related projects. So, where does the money go? Read on... I stopped reading here, so ONLY partial money from the Argus goes to projects? Where does all the other money go? It might be further down the page but why is it that no-one can say something good about the PPA without refering to the website. If anyone reads all that jargon please tell me does it sound like guilt funding and does it make my commute to work safer not just for myself but many other cyclists????
  10. As I said before it is a business. A good business will corner the market which in this case seems to have been done. PPA was losing members due to their uselessness and so instead of correcting their ways and providing a better service they went and came up with CSA and now it seems Ractec. "We cant improve but we can find ways to get your money" I have done many races where the marshals are voluteers (I have marshaled myself) and it is always a jol. The "promoters" provide snacks, (boerewors rolls at Gravel Travel) and much more whereas PPA supply water if you lucky. The question has to be asked again, Where is all the money going? (how much is a ticket to eurobike) Why cant PPA with their huge list not get volunteers that love the sport? (simple because PPA themselves are not here for the sport but the money...they are a business after all) The AGM meetings are a complete waste of time, new leadership is needed and those fat cats must step down. I only do funrides and always have nothing but praise for the organisers (which when it is a success PPA fly their flag but if its a balls up PPA wont take the slightest responsibility. Thanks to this attitude more people are staying away from events. PS, I only Mountain bike as PPA promised more cycling awareness and safer roads but roadies are still dying or getting injured.
  11. What is Majik riding like at the moment? I see its wet so is it slippery mud or just dirty water and the loose stuff is gone?
  12. I thought the windcutters eat pads.
  13. At the end of the day if you see anything with PPA in it just know it will be a stuff up. They are the limp wristed mafia who have their foot nicely in the door and dont give a crap about the sport but rather the business side of things. They do some PR once in a while and dont really contribute to the everyday cyclists enjoyment of the sport. Not sure if you were here last year when a cyclist was killed the PPA used this as a great opportunity to make a noise and that's all they did. Nothing came of it. Cycling safety has not improved, events have not improved, but business is good as cyclists have no choice but join the mafia I mean PPA. My 2c!
  14. looked at my bikes the other day and worked out how much I have from CWC and its is quite scary how much money they have saved me...also very convenient and not to mention ultra friendly and helpful. PS. we have been bombarded with ads about supplements, drink water during the race and use rehydrate afterward.
  15. The problem with just leaving the bike in the back is that it can get swiped very quickly and also when you go over a bump it could bounce out. I still have not found the perfect way to transport bicycles. they get scratched or become a mission to put on or off or in. The quickest i have seen is the roof rack thingy but then you are limited to the number of bikes.
  16. I love my hardtails. They give you feedback when you ride and on long rides they make you love your full susser more. I ride the hardtail during the week, then race on the 100mil sus then eat up Jonkers and Tokai on the couch...i mean shova. Ride both bikes and keep both. One day when you send one in for a service and the clowns take time over the weekend you will have a backup. Also I lend mine to mates to try get them into the sport. only problem is they SS now.
  17. Whats amazing is that this is a cycling forum and yet CSA and PPA are not represented by anyone. True show of dedication to the sport...of golf because that's where they are right now.
  18. That cant be true, its borderline unethical and unfair to all riders.
  19. This has been happening for a while. So many trails to ride but at the end of the day people are still riding these events and paying so why should they(CSA) stop or give a crap. I have my CSA licence but purely to support some of the race organizers by taking part in their events.
  20. At the end of the day your money is going NO_WHERE. As a fun rider who does MTB, why should I pay for roadies to go train oversees? CSA want nothing to do with cycling safety at home (as i understood it from the tread mag) and people have woken up to PPA only showing face around argus. Does anyone find it strange that PPA is no where to be seen and that CSA is only incorporated with their fees. Mountain biking should be taken care of by AMA and PPA and CSA should push off, their are more fun riders than serious riders and they saw this cash cow a mile away... My question is how did they get in to all these races and no one has questioned them from a higher authority? (corruption at the highest levels is the only reason I can see)
  21. Dont they clean up a day or 2 after the event? Sachet tossers...no excuse.
  22. Just a thought, came to me while on my mtb this morning, since cyclists cant really be punished for traffic violations, could the clubs not be fined? I get the mission about proving membership etc but just the basic idea of clubs taking responsibility for members.
  23. What are your thoughts on the "road" crossings? There are cars to contend with as well as cris crossing the road all the time. I also do it on the mtb...much easier especially now they have dug that big hole by the bridge. Yesterday saw a few obstacles, (Remember that it is not complete so not sure if we should even be riding the route yet) The water hole at the bridge, Plants all over the show, workers grinding on the path, pedestrians who dont realise that cyclists use the path as well (I am worried about giving a walker a big fright and he has a heart attack or something as a bell doesnt work), some glass and in the afternoon a car.
  24. iRob, Do you ride on the red road or the actual cycling lanes?
  25. The lane is FINE. The light posts in the middle are unusual but now they have put normal sign posts (something about change of traffic light sequence) in the middle of the lane. The lamp posts have reflective tape at least. Then there is the crossing of roads. This is very dangerous coming away from town as cars turning dont really indicate so you basically have to slow down or stop at every street crossing. At the robots cars stop on the zebra crossing, usually as its best to put make up in that spot. At the Milnerton flea market you need to somehow cross Otto to get to the otherside. They have a red light to stop the traffic and a green arrow to allow cars to go left, in other words there is constant traffic flow. I know its not complete but still its not flowing, but FINE. On the Paarden Eiland BRT route you have many pedestrians who cannot hear you coming, even when ringing your bell. Now I dont ride fast so this is going to get nasty with the faster riders late for work etc. Is it a cycle lane or is it a pedestrian lane? Its both but I see this argument making a few posts in the future. Safety is till a concern.
