  1. what "model" would be ideal for mountain biking?
  2. Hi, I have just visited the Teak website and the trails look lekka! What route would you recommend for a first time visitor? We ride regularly at Groenkloof (love the track), how would the two compare? Does it get busy over weekends at Teak? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
  3. O.K, had a blonde moment there, thanks for the explenation!
  4. Usually when someone crosses the finish line before someone else, your position should be lower than the person who finishes 3 minutes after you
  5. no, i was in group E and he was in F
  6. was my first lionman, finished about 3 minutes before my buddy but he is 17 positions before me?? wtf?
  7. Hi, I read that there is quite a heavy queue to the event, we are leaving Pretoria @ 5am on Saturday morning, should this give us enough time to get a parking spot & prep before the race? Google-maps estimate 1 hour 56 minutes travel time to the venue?
  8. Hi, Another newbie to the Hart Rate scene... When i train during the week (orbitrek, circuit etc.) my HR monitor recommends a HR between 139 and 151, and i train in this zone (usually between 30 & 40 minutes per session) When i ride my bike it's between 151 & 171. Am I not training hard enough during the week, or am i putting too much strain on my heart when i bike? I feel that i am "burning more fat" in this zone and i do get a good workout in this HR zone. My max HR is recommended at 190 and resting is around 70. I am using a Suunto M5, and my fitness program is set to "weight" (to reach my target of 88kg's from 91,3) and fitness level set to "good". I just want to know that i am not bullsh**ting myself for not using the device correctly and training in the wrong HR zones?
  9. Hi, I would like to know if there is anyone on the Hub who owns a bike like this??? What is your experience with the bike etc?? I need some pros and cons to make a decision on buying one. It fits in my price range and the components are quite good (I think) and I know a few people with hard-tail bikes who are very happy with the Silverback range. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
  10. I vote for boerie rolls & a cold one + a proper bike wash! Groenies is a great ride & vibe, love it! Great idea by South Bay, well done!
  11. Hi Guys, I wonder if you can give me some advice on this topic? I was diagnosed with a high cholesterol count (7) at the beginning of the year and was advised to follow a certain diet, shed some weight (was 100kg's) and do at least training 4 times a week. Since February I have managed to shed 9 kilos and got my fitness levels up and cholesterol down. I try to ride mtb 4 times a week and have read that the type of training i require is "High intensity interval training." I feel great, and want to get even fitter. I see a lot of athletes train with heart rate monitors and I am thinking of getting one. I need to get my heart rate with the interval training between a certain BPM etc. (as per the article i read) Sportsman's Warehouse are running a special on a few HR monitors and from what I have seen the Suunto M5 is what i had in mind (it's got a weight management feature as well) Would I benefit for having one? Can i use it on my mtb to calc distance etc? Is it difficult to figure out & train for the first time? I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
  12. Hi, Is there anyone out there who has a Specialized Enduro SL? I would like to know how this bike will perform in mtb events. Is this bike too heavy and difficult to maneuver in a race or does it perform well? I am considering getting one but would like opinions first, otherwise I am thinking of getting a Trek Fuel EX5. I just don't want to make the wrong choice and regret it when I'm doing events. I don't do too many competitions during the year it's mostly for fun, but would like to leave the option open if i decide to take it serious. If anyone could give your comments it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
