    Commute

Still sounds pretty hairy to take on the rest of the potential problems with commuting like hi-jacking, vendors, etc. and thats not including traffic, which is manageable I think

    Commute

Angel - where do you work that you are brave enough to commute to work?
  4. Yip, a likely story... CP - In Jason's wise words - "ek terg net" I'm sure you did plenty of work at the front, just not lucky enough to crack the nod to get into the photo album. Hopefully at the next race you can someone can get a couple of shots as proof...
  5. Sorry CP, my apologies, just you seemed to be so scarce in the pics that I just assumed you were hiding. I guess I'll have to wait for the pics of you pulling the group to confirm your story - and we all know how long it took for Grapkas to find evidence that she works in the front
  6. Great pics again Crux - thanks very much for the effort - only did not see a pic of Chilli Pepper, was she hiding from the Wind?
  7. ok so all this talk, but no photos - Crux, SP any pics? I take it Jason is on a long weekend with Michelle, so not race report from him yet...
  8. Undulating....? Hmmm - sounds like a similar phrase to hilly...
  9. anyone know what the route profile looks like? are we talking pancake or mountain goat heaven???
  10. Thanks DT - do you have contact details?
  11. I can understand that manuf.'s aren't going to endorse their wheels for 100+ guys, but surely they should make the limit known to buyers? I've emailed raleigh and explained my story, so I'll see what they come back with. I'm not too hopeful though and will proabably have to have a set built up for me. Titus - can I use the hubs that are currently on my wheels?
  12. and it's the consumer who loses out at the end of the daysmileys/smiley7.gif I'm now stuck with wheels I cant use, and no one willing to claim responsibility for it.
  13. Thanks Titus - sounds like an idea. Anyone know of a decent wheel biulder in Gauteng? I'm still pretty peeved about the whole thing though - I think its crap that raleigh (or shimano) make no mention that these wheels wont suit everyone. Also, the shop should be responsible to tell you that the wheels just wont work, but, if there are no warnings/indications on the bike, who is to blame?
  14. Thanks Splat. Is this something I should take up with Raleigh themselves? I've long since thrown away any receipts and the like for the bike - do you think I can take it back to them and try for a similar resolution? Surely we cant be the only one's to have this happen??? BTW - How much did the new wheels go for?
  15. I was out on my normal club ride on saturdaysmileys/smiley1.gif, the day after I had my bike fully serviced. Everything was running pretty smooth, but after a while, things felt a little heavysmileys/smiley19.gif. Very soon after that, a fellow rider came up to me and said my rear wheel was bent/sku.smileys/smiley7.gif He was riding the same bike (Raleigh RC6000) and said that the stock wheels (shimano Wh550) are not made for big riders and come with a weight limit of 86kgs!!! (also being a big guy, he had replaced his) I'm obviously heavier than that (100kgs+) and he said they cant handle the pressure on them (power etc.) and thats why they bend. So my two questions: 1- what wheels would be able to suit a heavy guy like me (on a budget of about R2k) 2 - Why do shimano/raleigh not tell people about this before they buy the bike? (not as important as getting me a new set of wheels)
  16. Comparing to Google Earth - Grand central robots are at 1597m and Kyalami (I assume you mean the race track) is 1463m
  17. Thanks Buff If I gave you co-ordinates from google earth, could you check them against what you've got? Try 26 14'13" S 28 00'15" E ?
  18. I know the watch isn't going to be 100% accurate, just want to make sure it's almost there What about using google earth?
  19. Thanks Buff - do what level can it give data? Can it give for Gold reef city, Parkhurst, Sunninghill? I know how to set it, just want to make sure its accurate. Thanks
  20. Got my 725 this morning (thanks Chris Jnr at CWC!!!) How do I go about setting the altitude? Is their a website I can go to, to get some altitude readings of different locations?
  21. is there anybody in JHB who is brave enough to commute to work? I've often thought about it while sitting in traffic, but then my i quickly wake up when a taxi screams past me in the emergency lane/yellow line...
  22. I have a 520 polar. What are the signs that you're battery is fading? I'm getting some readings that are out (not the normal 220 though) especially when I stand. Is this normal?
  23. 6061 and 7005 basically states the mixture between alu and other metals to make the frame. If I remember correctly, 7005 is a little lighter than 6061, but not sure if you trade in the weight for rididity or the like. I ride an identical GT frame and it is def. bullet-proof. handles like a dream (although it is a little heavy) but overall a great bike. the geometry is also real comfy! There are a couple of schools of thought on buying a bike for a frame or for components: Some will say get a solid frame cause you can always upgrade components (which can work out more expensive than getting a new fully specced bike). Other say buy what you can afford, ride it till its stukkend, then buy a totally new bike. Also, dont count out the new raleighs -they are highly specced and from reports, the frame delivers as well. Try to get as much advice from ppl who ride those exact bikes as possible. And if in doubt, choose the one that you think looks the nicest - you have to love you bike and be proud of her, otherwise it'll sit on your garage wall, gathering dust instead of dirt.
  24. with the many miles to be done on the indoor trainer, I'm looking at GOOD cycling dvd's to keep me entertained. Can anyone recommend any and also where can I get them I know CSC made one called "the overcoming"?
