  1. I do not believe that it is Tacx, my money is on the surges from the grid. I am surprised that Garmin replaced the units
  2. You know what I would do, or let me say: You know what I did . I am going to tell you what I did and then the thinking behind my actions. Get yourself a road rolling chassis and use a flat bar and some mtb gears. My current gear ratio is probably a bit wack but I don't really care . I have a FSA carbon road crank 39/53 (or something like that) with a 10 speed mtb 11/36T at the back. For shifters I used mtb instead of STI's with cable brakes. My reason: STI's will mean that you have to be in the drops when you want to either shift or pull on them coward pedals (I can imagine that will be quite unsettling if you're traveling on a dusty stuff and you're not used to it). Your other option which I would've done if I did not get this bike for a steal: go with a HT mtb with a rigid fork, something like this: https://momsenbikes.com/shop/frame-kits-various/frame-momsen-stf29-grey-blk/
  3. Build yourself one up 😁
  4. But please only run Shimano chains on Shimano Cassettes, the same with SRAM. I wonder if KMC will bring out a cassettes and or if E-thirteen has some chains, otherwise they're screwed 😁
  5. Yee of little faith 😂. I actually think that one of these may work. Now before anyone tries to tell me that it is SRAM and the cable pull is different blah blah blah. On the rear mech I agree, but not on the Front. I ran a Shimano - SRAM combo for many a happy kilometers when having more than one ring in the front was still the rage
  6. PTA East - Garsfontein. But I can garuantee that it will fit 👍
  7. Are you by any chance looking for this one 😜
  8. Sorry man, I have been moving to my new and improved mancave with Aircon and all . So let me get that for you now
  9. I know I sound like a broken vinyl player but folks: We buy a new bike for R40k and choose to lube and wash it with bike specific products because it comes in a pretty little bottle with a nice convenient nozzle or pump action handle, yet we drive around with R700k hilux bakkies and could give a toss what shampoo the car wash uses or what oil the local dealer uses when it gets serviced. Priorities are lacking
  10. You know what irks me, and I actually think that it is the root of why you created this post: No value is added to the product from the moment it gets listed at the "reasonable price" and then re-listed to include the dealers fee. Some dealers don't cycle themselves, they have two left thumbs and they literally just relay what their mechanic told them. These individuals then sit behind the PC the whole day and buy everything that resembles a good deal where they can make a profit. Some of them then even have the audacity to beat the seller down some more. Their mantra: buy low and sell high! They also convince themselves that they "add value" to the market. I reported a scenario like that a few years ago but ya, that was never addressed.
  12. Personally: I will call it quits but not stop "cold turkey", rather gradually start dialing it back. You will notice that riding will become less of an addiction and more fun. I used to spend hours outdoors with friends slogging away to some sort of coffee / breakfast destination that's a cazillion miles away from home (or so it felt). It used to mean that I am away for 3-6 hours at a time and then the bike needed a scrub and a tinker afterwards. This ritual meant: 1) an hour prep prior to the ride 2) if I planned a 100km outride it meant at least 5 hours of moving time 3) stopping mid way to fuel up translated to another hour 4) washing, tinkering and cleaning afterwards (bike and self) - another hour. This tallies up to 8 hours of fun in the sun. I then sat down and had a look at why I was riding, was it the social aspect of spending time with friends and talking rubbish at the stop? No it wasn't. Was it to be outside and to enjoy the 34 deg heat first hand? Nope, I have a very light skin so if I venture outside I have to take a bath in sunblock. Was it because I yearned for the veld and "needed" the rush of flying at 25-30km/h through a nicely manicured piece of single track? Meh The main reason why I put myself through the effort of riding outdoors was to gain fitness and to become stronger. This came at a cost of 8 hours and I started asking myself whether or not the sacrifice of time was worth the gains I saw? Long story short, the answer to me was no & I now prefer spending 3-4 hours on the trainer (if I wanted to get 100km) with 15-20 min of prep along with another 20min afterwards to get cleaned up. Same result yet almost half the sacrifice of time - winner winner chicken dinner . Everyone's goal / objective / motivation is different but the point I am trying to make is that once you've identified the "why" the "how" becomes quite clear.
  13. Is a Boerboel broek something the dog wears when going out? I'm confused
  14. This thing is just going round and round in circles
  15. But then what is a hoop
  16. Isn't the best vehicle a bike? tirrrrrrrrr diff! I am here all week . Then my second pearler: if she's got an issue having to sit on the handlebars on the way to the movies then she doesn't belong with a hard core mtber Just adding some humor as I have nothing constructive to add
  17. Wonder if they're going to replace the frame. I would be extremely p!ssed if my frame did that
  18. I throw mine in the pool after every ride. I leave it there for about 30min and then leave in the sun to dry out 😁
  19. Will this not be a good interim solution for him: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bike-frames/619669/triandrun-aluminum-road-frame I actually think he'll be able to get that for his frame and fork This will also be an excellent option: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/620650/eddy-merckx
  20. Sounds like a bearing but don't quote me 😁.
  21. I fully agree, I read up on the rules and decided to only attempt the half or quarter. My wife already told me that I am not allowed to spend 8 hours on the trainer 😜
