  1. Just bear in mind that that Rapide stem has a 35mm bar clamp, the 31.8 is currently out of stock: https://www.rapide.co.za/product/rapide-controlcolumn-35-stem/
  2. Strangely enough I recently got a bike from a friend with one carbon and one alu Roval 🤔. I have yet to decide what I am going to do with either. Maybe you can make things easier for me
  3. If you took the frame to a certain carbon repair shop in CT then I am not surprised that they told you that. You're more than welcome to send me a DM and I will give you two other contacts that will be able to fix the frame. That is not "Un-repairable"
  4. I have a SID fork and some carbon DT Swiss wheels that will definitely drop it below 10kg.
  5. Good show, that's quite impressive to see it sell quickly. Maybe I can start building 26ers again
  6. The way I read the entries lately you're able to do it solo with the help of a support driver. I can be wrong though but make contact with: TransBaviaans The Repeat 2023 Partner https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/193892-transbaviaans-the-repeat-2023-partner/
  7. Lunch by 11:30? You eat way too little IMO. Part from the stretch between 11:30 - 16:00 you also have quite a while between your nutri-bullet and lunch. Eat like a horse - frequently and little bits at a time, nuts, a portion of fruit, a sandwich stuff like that and then push the lunch to later in the afternoon
  8. Try the forerunner 255, o, wait . Personally: the watch & or GPS unit is seen as a consumable with a certain lifespan. Put the unit under your household content insurance (specified item) and once it packs up get another one. Having to run around to get this or that replaced just adds unnecessary frustration. This is just my way of thinking 😁
  9. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/635911/merida-96-full-caborn-26-inch let's keep an eye on this one to see how long it takes to get sold
  10. My advise: Get a cheap 26er and leave it on the trainer. There's sooooo much that you need to change / fiddle with when a. you want to ride on the trainer or b. ride the bike outdoors. I have been riding on the trainer since 2015 & I am now at a point where I don't even bother to go cycling outside 😁.
  11. My opinion: you won't be able to get what it is worth solely because of the wheel size. XL 26ers don't have a big market anymore, if you're tall, then 29er is almost a no brainer. Anything above an entry level 29er will be too much for the buyer. I mean a GT avalanche 29er with a 2x10 & Shimano brakes goes for around R5500-R6000 second hand. The Revels struggle to fetch R4500-R5000. Yes, I agree, it is worth more but the moment the argument about wheel size comes into the mix everyone will tell the buyer to go with the 29er and upgrade over time. I would gooi it onto the classifieds for like R6-6500 but again "in my opinion" expect to sell it around the R3500-R4000 mark If you have everything ready that you're looking to offload you're welcome to drop me a DM and I will give you some honest values and even look at making you an offer.
  12. Get some Anatomic or Ciovita Weardirect.co.za Ciovita.co.za
  13. @peadar, keen to do the Baviaans without me 😁
  14. Pretoria, danger area. There I fixed it
  15. No offense, but with those values you'll be able to finish closer to 15. I am sooo keen to do it again this year but unfortunately I won't be able to. Good luck, I am sure you'll get someone. O, I do have a friend in Roodepoort who did it with me in 2019. I can reach out and find out
  16. Anything in life can be "urgent" or asap. The question is, is it important .
  17. Stop freewheeling! It's your bikes way of telling you to stop slacking
  18. I have literally never ever had to use a clutch on my trainer
  19. Definitely time to get a new bike
  20. Ok, first off, congratulations on the purchase, welcome and many happy miles 2nd - https://www.competitivecyclist.com/Store/catalog/fitCalculatorBike.jsp - this link will help you with a setup to ensure that you don't get injured or compensate for a bad setup. 3rd - Your saddle may need to be adjusted forward, on that position your legs are over extending and this will be bad in the long run (just note that I am no expert and don't know everything). 4th - There is an app called "saddle adjust" on the app store / play store. This app will show you the angle of your saddle, try to get as close to 0 as possible. 5th - If you need any other assistance / information / parts you're welcome to send me a DM or send it on this thread to keep me honest 😜 All the best and good luck.
  21. Nice discount, I need to jump on that
  22. So I am currently also in the process of building my 2018 Scalpel with a standard fork. My advice: go Fox instead of Rockshox. The Fox is way more plush than the RS
  23. I would give a range rather than an exact number and then I will say why: Between R3500 - R5000 Reasons: 1) Tektro brakes are prone to leak with age and they don't enjoy a service, they tend to leak quite quickly after the cheap @ss o-rings have been replaced 2) SRAM X5 is quite old, hell, it was old already when they fitted it to that bike. I came out in 2012. 3) Do you know if the fork has recently been serviced? Or when last?
  24. So I have been wondering, well probably cause I can get my grease monkey fingers on a special little number . But is there a market for extremely high end bikes, I mean north of R100k? I know that this probably rules out 99% of the folks on here but still what's your thoughts? Or rather, if you had the opportunity would you take the risk?
  25. You eat during the first 100km for the second 100km or in this case 67km. You need to take in some real food during the first half of the race to ensure that you don't "hit the wall" during the second half. Get something that works for you on the bike and stock up To be honest about the route: it is quite a flat and boring ride but this will also provide a different challenge, you'll need to have the miles in the legs to ensure that you can push through .
