  1. There is one cardinal rule that may never ever be broken, or you'll burn for it... Never Ever go to your LBS get advise and his wisdom on a part/ frame/etc, touch it, feel it, smell it - i.e.use his showroom and stock costs, and then go and order from some website. NEVER
  2. We (team management) were a bit upset with the orginisers. They did not allow the bike...something to do with UCI rules not allowing a greater than 3:1 aspect ration
  3. get rid of the saddle - too heavy for weightweenies at least go SLR Ti - 135g not 175g - there's already 40g for you (there are many other lighter options too) sell your saddle and look on hub for SLR Not sure about your wheelset (I'm a roady) but normally there's plenty o weight (as in 100's of grams) to be saved
  4. I agree after almost stuffing up my aligators - just get the right tool. You mentioned using it a couple of times a year - well for that sort of use rather go Park Tool and have peace of mind for many seasons worth of cutting
  5. OK here's junior's bike...

A a highway patrol car has a 4 times greater risk of being wrecked if it keeps it's emergency lights on while parked next to the highway...it is called the Moth Effect...I'm not sure what to make of this
  7. best bling sound is still a solid rear disc
  8. SwissVan this is a biker's thread... not a tri-thread sorry, triathletes (me included) know nothing of cycling clothing. Triathletes even wear arm warmers with sleevless shirts
  9. I must agree with all the coments on BIBS. However, on a hot windless day on blacktop up a 5km climb, it can get much hotter than without the straps and "tummy/back warmer" But we don't mention that - and shorts is not euro cool
  10. Yes almost like VOETSEK
  11. I've bought ebay many times. generally if it is not too expensive you don't pay imports. then again (as stated above) I ended paying 30% import duties on a tri wetsuit (was still cheaper than local though) So for bikes, frames etc - do your home work first i.t.o. duties payable
  12. Tubbies are better PERIOD Don't tell me ALL pro teams run them just because of sponsorship issues Don't you think they've got access to the best clinchers available anywhere? Now it's a different issue whether they're the best for your application/ budget/ following car (or lack thereof) etc. PS Speed Devildevil & Tibones, I cracked myself for your discription page 1
  13. Saterday morning 7 Feb 2009 warm up for club race.... Can't believe that biker was released from hospital today with only stiches in arm - nothing broken!!! Thank the Lord
  14. We'll get more engineers riding bikes!!!
  15. yes and if you're talking about one wheel only you call it a skew. like "that's a lank skew you've got there on your front zipp" And if you're talking about both wheels it becomes skew-ers NOT
  16. You should post the ride on weightweenies with all that effort in weighing each seperate part. That's how they do it Great to see you going into so much detail
  17. NEVER EVER FIRST ASCENT AGAIN!!! One of my mates same experience. He returned them a week later and bought ASSOS
  18. ok fair enough, but bought as part of second hand bike But even with tools, is it common to tighten bearings/ hubs on weekly basis?
  19. My wheelset, especially front wheel, keeps coming loose i.e. the hub needs constant (once a week) tightening with that special tool (which only my LBS carry) and allen key. Loose as in sideways play even with skewers fastend. It's irretating having to take the bike in every week. Once it's tight, bearings are smooth and all seem fine Didn't expect this from high end wheelset Any advise?
  20. To give you an idea, I had a new wipperman chain on my dura ace drive train. Very expensive and high quality BICYCLE chain Shifting was sloppy, 11 teeth gear jumped, and ultimately the chain broke after maybe 1000k. Fitted Ultegra chain and bob's your uncle - all shifting issues sorted
  21. The problem I find with choosing a saddle is it takes time for your body to get used to. (mine in any case) Got a Selle Italia SLR Ti and first week or 2 was average comfort but nothing longer than 2 hours please After 2 weeks or so, well let's just say this saddle was made for my butt - even 6 hour rides (contrary to popular believe that "race saddles" only work for short rides) Did a ride reasently on my previous very comfy saddle (Selle San Marco Aspide) and just could not get comfortable PS Decent bike shops carry demo saddles to try - but normally only for high end brand names
  22. I've got the same problem with my Alu frame and post - the bike is only 1 year old and NOT NEGLECTED Bike shop rekoned Q20 a couple of days and "work it". Well that aint doi'n noting I'll first try the coke - bb- thing - but also read before from an experienced mechanic that in the end you always bring out the hacksaw
