  1. A complete waste of money. All of that is fine. They should concentrate on turning old logging roads into recreational roads and building pristine single tracks and bike park stuff.
  2. junk must wear helmet saved my life twice . Hate it when i see people without helmets. So stupid!!!
  3. Exposure lights, look no further unless stolen will last forever, tough, contained battery, light and perfect beam. http://www.use1.com/homepage/exposure-lights
  4. Well done Malcolm Fox you handled it perfectly!!!!!! The video illustrates your 6 sense stepped in and you felt it was a robbery where no violence would occur if you complied, hence you acted quickly handed him what he wanted and spoke to him in a very calm assuring way. Brilliant!!! I don't know you, but maybe you would have reacted differently if you had felt something else about the situation.
  5. Why is it so expensive if its unsupported. You are basically paying R100k for someone to map out a route. Probably an insane amount of district road. They are obviously hoping for min 100 entries to cover prize money and the rest is profit. Not adverse to people profiting in MTB its a good thing but this formula is flawed. The main bunch are riding a long unsupported boring ride at a huge cost to pay for the marketing hype, which is a huge purse to go to a few probables. Then they try do a lottery system for the "sponsor" riders. Rather charge much less give smaller prizes and create a kick ass supported race with big corporate sponsors. another point the race will be around 3 days for winners the others will be riding alone with nobody interested as the big prize would have been won already. Only the golden ticket left to win. I think Freedom Challenge and Epic are far more appealing.
  6. sold the bike that the sticker was on will get one for my new baby next year )
  7. thats insane put a picture up of it. was he rider number 1 or 2
  8. haha classic observation. note i do not have my Epic sticker on my bike but I assume those that do would keep them on as a right of passage badge, or a conversation piece. It does show that its the premium race to do seeing as people are proud to keep the sticker.
  9. Garmin 500. we look at our phones enough off the bike.
  10. I am a cycling addict who is guilty of shouting at cars as much as the next guy, but this is not going to stop until cyclists realize they are smaller than cars and must be careful, its like a poodle V doberman. I have been completely swayed to MTB due to my fear of motorists.

  18. I see there are a large number of pine saplings among the vast assortment of exotics
  19. Has anybody noticed how no Fynbos or indigenous flora has replaced the magnificent forest that was harvested. The new track that was cut was such a great job and brilliant to ride, but it has degraded quickly. Not from lack of build quality more the quality of the environment around it. I was under the impression that a major reason for the Forest harvest was to allow the natural habitat to grow back. This is so not the case as the new single track that has been re-cut is Port Jackson and other exotics and weeds all the way. The track has changed from hard pack to loose sand as there is no nice healthy indigenous fynbos growth or forest to hold it together, The fynbos is happy lower down and around Noordhoek loop, but this newly re-cut 4 part section is shocking and clearly neglected, what a pity. If they don't control it soon it will become very expensive to cut down and then ignored and we will be robbed of the Fynbos paradise it could easily be with a bit of care.
  20. haha
  21. Purple extreme for road an squirt for MTB
  22. I am 178cm, I used to have a Scott Spark medium with longer stem 110mm. I just bought a Spec Epic and was advised large. Its proved a good choice I now have a shorter stem 70mm and it seems to help my control downhill, I suppose because i am just that much more back. Basically smaller bike is more jittery which on short rides is quite fun, larger more stable better for long stage races and general marathon. Initially I was not sure about L as I was used to M but no it feels 100%
  23. sssstrava
  24. Yep i have one on my indoor trainer which is great, but the cost and added weight of actually permanently putting it on my MTB is a turnoff. Nnless I can be convinced it actually works 100% on the MTB which I am not as the terrain plays a major part on power output, One would have to take data and put it against the map of what you did. Plus a muddy/dusty/wet/crash stage could kill the meter then you have to lug it around for no good reason at all.
