  2. Interesting how wildly different COVID and the vaccines for it affect people. My wife and I had our boosters (Pfizer) on 26th Feb, and apart from the typical minor injection site pain, not a single side effect. In fact, the only side effect we had with all the Covid vaccinations was a bit of a rash on my wife's shoulder after the second dose. Similar situation for both my parents, basically no side effects.
  3. Sjoe, no thanks, 2009 wasn't a lot of fun. I remember seeing quite a few lighties with deep-section wheels rather walking back to the start, before we had even reached Edinburgh Drive
  4. Depends on how congested the water points are when you get there, and at how many you stop. I'm not sure how much of a difference one bottle's weight would make on the climbs, but personally I would ride with two even though I almost never finish either during the ride. Rather have it and not need it...
  5. I received an email about it this afternoon, applicable to all groups up to 1D. & is the top 30-39s and 50+
  6. Oh goodie! Because the top vets are not fast enough as is....
  7. We used to go Waterfront side, depending on when you finish it should still be fairly car-free. Dock road, according to Google. Like so:
  8. Pretty much, yes. There is usually a few days "make up days" after all the last stage, where all the stages are available, but still set events
  9. Usually there are official events that you need to do, between those dates. For the recent Tour de Zwift, there were events just about every hour. And you can just sign up for the event via companion app or so, up to a few seconds of the start of that event; once you enter the game you should be taken to the event.
  10. For the whole race? About 37. Or to cut it really really close, 36.34:
  11. Depends quite a bit on your average everywhere else But, if you can average a smidge over 20km/h on these two late in the race, you can probably average a high enough speed for the rest to make (or just not) a sub-3.
  12. Hmmm... really tempting for once.... The early start means making it back to the start should be ok, bar mechanical or crap weather. Would be inconvenient for my folks to come pick me up another few hours after my dad has finished though; alternatively ride another 40km home, after 221km and 2000m of climbing 🤣 Sjoe!
  13. Similar situation. Accommodation is sorted, slightly-used compact crankset purchased and will be fitted post CTCT (I'd rather have it and not need it, come Mineshaft). Healthy mix of looking forward and fear, but it should be interesting at least.
  14. Flying cardboard bins and toppled portaloos at the start area, ala 2009 = windy (or with the new rules, probably cancelled race)
  15. Hopefully less windy than the Herald 🤞
  16. Not sure what my FTP was at the time. But from 1B, on Edinburgh in 2020 I averaged about 128% of my current FTP, and according to Strava a PR on that segment. Doubt I can hold that for over four minutes currently.

    Calling on you gamers

Maybe not guilty, but I find myself rather playing something that I can pick up, play for a bit, not play for a week or two, and come back and jump in where I left off. Between work, training, family time and keeping the garden from becoming a jungle, I have little willpower left to try and remember how to craft the all-powerful-knapsack-of-DOOM! or whatever.

    Dopers suck

A while ago there was a fuss about doping in SA schools - one of the meds was also a prescription-only cancer-related drug, my mom was taking it a few years earlier. THe kids were using it to counteract the side-effects of one of the many other things they were doping with.

    Dopers suck

There have been a few.... conveniently after the statute of limitations of course
  20. I could very likely have done something wrong, but when you go to generate the voucher in the app, I had to choose between the three options - Sports gear and equipment, Fitness Device, or Nike Performance Gear, then once you confirm your selection it gives you a normal voucher code to enter on the site.
  21. Just used one of the holiday R250 Sportsmans vouchers, the 25% upfront Sports Gear discount and all my Discovery Miles to buy my mom a Garmin 45S; much easier than I thought it would be Now to hope I can still use the Fitness Device reward next month on a similar watch for my dad. Their Tomtoms are basically falling apart at this point.
  22. You still have three weeks worth of VO2Max hill repeats to go Plus working on staying low for longer, so you arrive at the hills slightly fresher.
  23. Thanks, you too! First &'s last year was faster than the first @'s, and both only about 4min slower than the first 1A's. Kliphard is an understatement! Next week's Herald should show just how screwed I'll be
  24. Starting in @ Best start time ever, and all I had to do was have a birthday... Unfortunately current fitness does not match this, so I will probably see LWB's tandem soon enough... 😅
  25. Or for those of us that missed it by a smidge, an early do-over (or possibly reminder to train more over Dec... again)
