  1. To be fair, the article only mentions the ALR models at the pricing and availability, no other details mentioned Seriously though - when I first read the article, I saw the price of the ALR4, scrolled back up to see if I had missed something, found nothing and... went on with my day and forgot to go check the Trek website.
  2. I've gotten to the point where my brain just goes "nevermind, next!" when it sees the high prices. No point in getting excited about it if I can't see myself ever spending that much money on the particular area. R200k+ bike, or car that costs more than my house? Not even interested in reading/watching the review. R150mil mansion in Camps Bay? No, clickbait headline, it is in fact not something that I MUST SEE. The good condition used Scalpels or Cyphers in the classifieds for less that R40k? Far more interesting
  3. If I remember correctly, it was only at CP5. Coffee, crisps, and cold drinks (including Savannah). There was other stuff available - chip roll, water, instant coffee and probably other stuff that my brain didn't bother with at that point.
  4. I did my first Baviaans this weekend. Very thankful for the great weather! Overall our ride went well, although we missed our "would be nice" time by quite a bit, coming in at just over 12h. My partner for the race is vastly more experienced than I am with this kind of thing, having done 10 previously, finished a Munga or two, Munga Grits, the recent ATP, etc etc etc. Lucky for me he also has a lot of patience. We were going quite well until the Zandvlakte checkpoint, 70-ish team. But my lack of experience bit soon after. I must have overdone the energy drink, as by Smitskraal I was slowing down, still mid-70s team but going backwards, feeling like a balloon about to pop, with the start of a dehydrated headache. By the foot of MAC I had to run into the bushes. Did my best impression of a pale snail up MAC, losing 30 positions between CP3 and CP4. A lengthy rest and a cup of the nicest soup in the world ever did wonders, and we just made it to the bottom of the descent in daylight. My saddlebag got ripped loose on the downhill section, so it was squashed into my hydration pack. We lost an additional place to CP5, but by now I was starting to feel like myself again. Another lengthy rest, a chip roll and a double-shot Americano (they could have charged 5 times the price, I wouldn't have cared) was just what the doctor ordered, and from there we flew. By CP7 we had made up around 20 places, and a few more by the finish. What a place to get to ride our bikes! I need to plan a trip there, to show my wife the scenery. And perhaps I can convince my dad to do it with me next year. Edit: Forgot to say: Well done to every person who did the event, whether it went great or not. Especially the teams like the final team, who came in as we were having breakfast - that is much, much harder than anything I've ever done.
  5. The top three teams broke the old record
  6. I did something like this, minus the cable. I bought an extra Asus wifi router, with the AIMesh feature (my main router connected to the fibre is also Asus with AIMesh), and connected it to the network in the app. Of course running a cable would be the best, but this is way easier than getting a network cable through multiple tick walls.
  7. Seems like something that could be improved, recovery from offline mode (at least in the rides history) after a dropout. I've been relatively lucky and not had too many wifi dropouts. Last time it did happen, I thought there was a message on screen, but I don't have a screen capture of how it looked.
  8. What platform are you using - PC, Mac, Android of Apple tablet, or AppleTV? I've found one similar report, where after a few minutes of a workout the user's connection dropped, and only the first part got uploaded to their TP. They were able to take the FIT file from their device, and upload that to give the complete ride.
  9. Seems odd - I've continued riding after a race with no issues, would be strange if a group ride is designed to behave differently. You say the game decided the ride is over? Perhaps there was a loss of connection. But I agree, if you email them and especially if you can provide your log file, hopefully something small.
  10. So apparently we are sleeping in the church hall this year, instead of tents. Going to be interesting, one way or the other. Less to pack up on Sunday morning, at least.
  11. The Kickr Core supports multiple connections, if I'm not mistaken. Are you using the Wahoo app on your phone and Zwift from a PC? Perhaps, when using the Wahoo app to do the spindown and then going into Zwift, both the Wahoo app and Zwift are technically connected to the trainer at the same time, and having an argument over who is in control? Try disconnecting from the trainer in the Wahoo app first, or completely closing the app, before going into Zwift, if you are not already doing that anyway.
  12. I think from George is a bit further, but much faster. (Per Google, if it were not for the road works near George, then driving from Knysna through George to Uniondale would take about the same amount of time as from Knysna to Uniondale). I think anything even remotely near Uniondale would be sold out. Previously my parents stayed in a tent in Uniondale, and my mom drove to the finish - I assume we will do the same this year. But if you don't happen to have a partner or friend who can take your car, then you'd still need to pay someone to take your car to the finish. This year will be my first one as well, so I have no idea about driving the pass on the morning. But depending on weather and how many other people try it, it could be rather stressful getting to the start in time?
  13. V3.6 looks much better than what I remember... Unfortunately simply watching the "What's New in GoldenCheetah Version 3.6" video made me feel quite stupid. I guess my TrainerRoad subscription can be seen as my dumb tax 🤦‍♂️😁 I should test it again.
  14. The latest update allows using another program or device to control the trainer resistance, so using TrainerRoad, GoldenCheetah etc. to control your workout. It also bring support for event series, it will be interesting to see how organisers use this.
  15. From the release notes of the version where it was added: Advanced Analytics. indieVelo now performs VO2max analysis of your physiology based on your riding to help you train better and achieve your goals. Using a model based on your 90 day best Critical Power (CP) curve this ensures your targets and analysis uses your current form and fitness, taking into account the natural cycle over the year, as well as injury / illness etc. For what it is worth, it estimates mine a little bit higher than Garmin. And both are 2-4 higher than what Intervals.icu estimates for my "42 days", with IV being the highest, but with the least amount of data.
  16. I have installed it on my Android tablet, but I have not ridden with it so no idea about battery life. Maybe changing the graphics settings could make it a bit less intensive? For example reducing shadow distance.
  17. It sounds painful, not fun I had a quick look - only 3 SA riders have done the 4km TT challenge. Maybe I will check after work, not often I can get a top 10 at something
  18. I'll keep TR, although I am checking if it is possible to change to a yearly subscription before the price increase kicks in...
  19. I just prefer the racing on Indievelo, than on Zwift. I like that you can actually feel less resistance from the trainer when drafting, or more resistance depending on the wind direction. But mostly I like that I have a decent shot at a good race. Depending on the route and the riders entered, I might be in Pen 1 for one event, but Pen 2 for another. Instead of in Zwift, entering in ex. B per my FTP and having no chance against riders who clearly shouldn't be in that category. Zwift is awesome, and if it had a proper automatic ranking system 2+ years ago, I would probably still have been using it.
  20. Just note that if/when you do have dropouts, it can sometimes result in getting kicked out of a race by the automatic verification, at least if the race is using the most strict level (for example, if cadence drops for more than just a really short time, but power still reads high). It happened to me a few weeks ago, not sure if it was my cadence sensor or the wifi though as the message wasn't clear on the culprit.
  21. How did your rides go? The weather was great, the race village was better than last year. No issues with route marking or late marshals on the MTB that I am aware of, and good attendance for all the distances on both days. My legs took a while to wake up on Sunday after the previous day's 80-ish, so I sat too far back and missed some of the faster groups on the first climb out of Knysna. Stupid, in hindsight, but oh well.
  22. It is about 106km, with around the same amount of meters climbed as the CTCT - my activity from 2022 shows 105.96km and 1150m. Up and over the big climb, left at a junction, to the turnaround and back to the junction, left again for some bonus climbing, and then back to town. Just one start group, if I remember correctly, which tends to split quite quickly after the neutral zone, so can be a bit of a lonely slog if you miss the bunch split. Last year the scenery was quite nice, as there was a lot of rain earlier in the week. But this year the race is a month later, 10th November, so it will probably be very hot.
  23. The Monday Mixer race, and Wednesday Omnium races are fun, and have a decent number of humans competing, plus bots to fill up the pens to 50 riders. The "La classique du Jeudi" race today also usually has decent numbers, no bots in this one. And "DIRTy FriYAY" race on Friday also usually has a decent number of humans. This week the Monday Mixer had 15 humans in pen 1 (13 finishers, all in the top 20), and a few humans in some other pens as well. One person's recording of the race: Although there is no companion app currently, you can check the upcoming events here: https://indievelohub.com/
  24. I see on ye olde book of face, it mentions bouttime: https://www.bouttime.co.za/ No idea what kind of chip or board they use though
