  1. Jeesh, 6 out of the 16 already past 200km!

If the road is bad enough, you have to consider not only punctures, but bottles coming off, or a crash happening in front of you. I rather leave much bigger gaps on the descents if in doubt. Plus, if this past weekend's race is anything to go by, I'll find myself in a smaller group pretty quickly anyway after a climb or three 🤦‍♂️

Well, start time received, 6:35. Pleeeenty of time to pick up my bike and amble to the start after the bus ride to PMB.
  4. I've made the trip down from the Free State every year since 1997. First few with the school, and the rest with my mom and dad. Next year is going to be quite strange, without all the familiar sights, padstalle at De Doorns, etc. The race is really just the highlight of an awesome long weekend. argie1's post has made me super nostalgic, and itching for next year's

They did mention on Facebook around the start of Sept, that there was some road works being done. Hopefully it is ok on race day
  6. I entered in Feb, and it was R550 (although I see I made up the difference with merch and a donation to something...).
  7. Agreed. But in this case, it did not beat skipping the second loop and having a early braai.
  8. Same feeling here. I don't mind if it starts raining if I'm already riding. But driving to the start in the rain, unloading the bikes in the rain, standing in the start chute in the rain, and then riding 99.9% of the route in the rain... was definitely not my favourite day on the bike ever. It did lead to me buying a big rear mudguard, hydrophobic jacket and a Mac In A Sac, so at least I'm ready for the next rainy race 😁
  9. They are definitely trying to encourage people to enter early... T minus 2h10m before madly smashing the refresh button
  10. Easy ride to Wilderness and back this morning (Couldn't see much on the phone screen, but the photo came out ok)
  11. But the kit, tyres and tubes isn't really just for the one event, right? Unless you slash both tyres and tubes and, as a result crash and destroy your new kit. In which case, do NOT play the lottery! Next year's event should actually be cheaper for us, since we'll travel less than half the distance. (Now watch "Murphey" kick me in the ....)

Lonely Mountains Downhill game is on special on Steam this week, for those that might be interrested: https://store.steampowered.com/app/711540/Lonely_Mountains_Downhill/
  13. I see Saris has also released a new model: Saris Announces New Upgraded H4 Smart Trainer Pretty unexciting update, unless you have a 12-speed groupset on your roadbike. Our H3 and H2 are still working great, don't see a need to upgrade any time soon.
  14. There is a Chinese brand, RideNow, that is cheaper. But of course then there is shipping, taxes etc.
  15. Unless the wheels have interchangeable end caps, I don't think it will work
  16. Via the "Phone Number" or the "Message Seller" button in the separate add, probably: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/bike-services-and-repairs/575455/plus-spray-werks-launches-its-services?referrer=homepage One day, far in the future, my Scott Foil will no longer be lime green 😁
  17. From Alter Bridge's upcoming album:
  18. He actually posted a small update to that review, in the summary section: [Review Update: Nov 2021 – Just a very quick note that some 18 months or so later, where I stand with the TICKR & TICKR-X. In general, it works as I saw during my multi-month review period. However, as time has gone on, I’ve seen more quirks and dropouts, even with brand new straps. This has been mirrored not just by comments in the review section, but also other friends that have picked up the TICKR & TICKR X. So while it floats around the DCR Cave for usage, at the moment it’s kinda become a last resort sensor, since I just can’t trust it’ll work every time. And since I need this type of data for testing to work every single time, it’s in the penalty box.] I have the previous gen Tickr Run, and I also get the same flatlining now and again. I'm trying a new strap now (Forza Premium), will see how that goes. You can also try resetting it: https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000359464-I-m-Having-Trouble-with-My-TICKR-What-Can-I-Do- Although considering you get the same on two different brand straps, I don't know what the issue could be.
  19. Agreed - at the speed most cars travel, knowing that they are there is far more useful than "ah, there is a car 56m behind me"
  20. Well, something I definitely like for example, is if I want to turn across the road. Of course, I turn my head to check, as normal. But, if I can see there are four dots coming on my Garmin, I know I have to wait and don't have to look - that reduces the possibility of drifting into the lane while looking behind me, or hitting a %^!@$ cateye and falling in front of the car(s). Edit 1: Also, I think the very bright light flashes when it detects something, which in theory should at least catch their attention? I've had a driver tell me in broad daylight that they like how visible it is. Edit 2: Also in theory, the crazy beeping coming from my head unit could help others in the group know there is a vehicle coming, and ride more predictably?

Digger, on our old XT. I can still remember the tune...
  22. My new steed. Not really N+1, as my Axis FS is going to my brother. Most components (frame, fork, wheels with tyres, crankset, shifter, derailleur, and brakes) were bought on Bikehub. About 11.5kg as is. I will probably replace the cheap handlebar and seat post with carbon ones later.
  23. The Cycleworx group rides to Wilderness via the N2 quite regularly. I haven't found the traffic too bad, although a few weeks ago during the school holidays it was a bit busy. I only moved here about a month ago, so can't help much with your questions. But based on the description by pedal menace, Strava claims the route to Outeniqua pass is 100% tar
  24. A Look at MyWhoosh Indoor Cycling App: A First Ride Explainer
  25. Sheesh, stunning! Honestly can't decide which of the above examples I like most... I'm pretty sure I can't afford even being in the same room as one
