  1. Bra. Relax. I told you I appreciate all the work done on the great trails. I also warned you not to read any further if you're not interested in a rant, so wasting your time is totally on you. I am just Gatvol of every single thing in my life costing a F-load more every day and no one feels the need to explain themselves. How do you you feel about your new Electricity and water levy? Or the price of fuel constantly going up? Or your government bleeding money to corruption and then your income tax and VAT just keeps going up? Don't know about you, but I sure didn't get a 42% pay increase to help offset the increasing cost of living. Sure I wasn't at the AGM, but that is why I ask the question now. Or will keeping quiet be of more help to change the situation?
  2. Saw the mail this morning. Before I start, I would have taken this matter to Facebook, but they switched off the commenting, so I guess it would have to be dealt with here. Secondly, I really appreciate the work done by the trail builders and Tygerberg MTB as a whole to give us such great trails to ride and this is in no way meant as an attack on them. Warning: If you don't feel like reading a rant, stop here. I just think that some of the members of Tygerberg MTB may want some clarity on what is going on with the 2019 fees. A couple of things to note. 1) Significant increase per main member for 2019. The table below lists the fees for the last 4 years and next year ( how long I've been a member). Note that in previous years we saw a reasonable increases. This year the club has decided that 18% seems like the right number. I'm not so sure. Year Main member % Increase 2015 R590 2016 R620 5 2017 R640 3 2018 R670 5 2019 R790 18 2) No spouse membership for 2019. Last year you could pay an additional R440 for your wife or husband if you were a main member yourself. My wife literally went riding a sum total of 3 times last year. We gladly paid the extra R440, and we would have done so again this year, but we won't be paying R790 for her to ride a handful of times. Also I don't have any children, so your family memberships aren't any help to someone in my position. I would love to hear from a Tygerberg MTB representative to explain the significant increase. Membership fees for my wife and I cost R1110 for 2018. If I were to replicate my 2018 membership for 2019 (i.e. myself + wife) it will cost R1580. That is a whopping 42% increase.
  3. It's definitely an option to go the GX Eagle + Sunrace cassette route. Sounds like the GX cassette is the source of the shifting issues. I wonder if the Sunrace cassette would be better though? Don't think I'll do the e13 conversion. My current 11speed derailleur has seen better days and probably wont won't survive my next attempt to do some landscaping with my face.
  4. I've been running XO1 11speed with a GX cassette and can't really fault it, apart from the high cost to replace the cassette once its worn. After 3 years of ploughing through rock gardens on Contermans and Jonkers and racking up nearly 10,000km I have to say that at this point in time pretty much the whole drivetrain is showing signs of wear and needs to be replaced. So yes, SRAM has definitely won me over in terms of its ability to take a beating, but every time I need to buy a cassette or chainring I have to eat two minute noodles for a month. I can't handle bad shifting, so maybe then GX Eagle isn't for me, but I cant fork out 15-20k on XO or XX Eagle either. First world problems...
  5. Seen as these two options come in at a fairly similar price range I find it difficult to choose between the two. Personally I don't really favor the one brand over the other, although a have my opinions regarding the pros and cons for each. I know people can be quite religious about their choice of drivetrain and I am sure everyone has their reasons for sticking to one brand over the other. For me it is a balance between cost and reliability mostly. Factors like weight and gear range are secondary and probably don't affect my decision too much. If I want to drag 500g less weight around, I'll put less water in my camelback. If I need more gear range I'll chow some cement pills. What has been your experience in terms of long term cost vs reliability/durability between the two options?
  6. Sekondeer. Daai T shirt is seker die beste t-shirt wat ek besit. Hoop ons kry weer van daai oukies volgende jaar.
  7. Ag no man. That's disappointing. I can just as well pack the road bike now.
  8. If you really want noisy hubs, take a look at Syntace. I run Hope Pro 2 Evo's and they were silenced by a guy coming past on a set of Syntace hubs. Hope's are awesome though, probably the best value for money you're gonna get.
  9. Agreed, that's a bit too much for my pocket, but I suppose at the moment there still is a gap in the market for an extended range cassette. Things will change once Sram's Eagle trickles down to GX levels.
  10. Map never loaded on my browser (PC Chrome). Didn't work in IE either. Tried in Firefox and it seemed to work. No issues on Chrome and Firefox on my android though. Thanks.
  11. Yeah, Get Stoked's website doesn't really have a very extensive list of dealers... That said, I would love to know what the 11 speed cassette would go for.
  12. I just love the look of these bikes. Definitely on my wishlist.
  13. Julien, how does a legend like you only have 7 posts on BikeHub? One day I'll contact you for a clinic. Me and my buddies have been talking and the consensus is that the only way we can improve our skills (apart from implanting bigger balls) is to go on a course. We've heard good things about your clinics.
  14. I fear for a near future where singletracks are choked by unskilled, slow, fat rich people on E-bikes. If I see one on a trail don't expect any pleasant comments. E bikes are going to ruin it for everyone that has worked hard for their skill and fitness levels. And for what, so that the machine can make more money for already well lined pockets. Sorry Iwan, I like your articles, but I don't like your stance on E bikes.
  15. Klapped that section this morning! What a way to start the day.
  16. Geez, boyscout alert. Relax dude. It's bad enough the way everyone already gets treated in the guilty-until-proven-innocent manner at Tygerberg MTB. No need to get all up in their face about it. Very cool video, thanks for the effort guys! And well done to Gert. I'll never be able to get close to that time down there, it's just too much fun fooling around on all the jumps.
  17. Lekker video. Jonkershoek is such an awesome place!
  18. Not too much time left for that. As far as I know it's pre-entry only and they close tomorrow. Just do it.
  19. Dividing by zero makes more sense than riding this bike on the Epic. My legs would divorce my body if I tried this.
  20. Ahem... Rule 95: Under no circumstances is it acceptable to raise one's machine above your head.
  21. I'm pretty sure Knolly's own website wouldn't have highlighted the flaws in their own designs. Then again, I don't think a company would employ a design that has no merits either. I am sure that in theory it works at least as good as a regular 4 bar system, but in practice the additional linkage and yolk has to improve the ride by enough to outweigh the potential for mishap in the extra parts. From their marketing blurb it sounds like it at least makes life easier for Noel when he designs the bikes. The only way to really know if the design works would be to test it, and even then there are so many other variables that play a role in how the bike rides. I just find it difficult to justify the complicated design. Looking forward to the review.
  22. Is it just me that feels that Warden has an obscene number of pivot points? Don't get me wrong, I know nothing about the bike, it may well produce an amazing ride. I just think that all the pivots are just more places for things to go wrong.

  24. #beanmachine haha, nevermind, great minds obviously think alike
  25. So incredibly sad. My thoughts go out to the land owners and people living in the effected areas. I don't want to believe that something like this could have been arson. The gain for the arsonist could just never even come close to the loss incurred. Then again, I don't want to believe that someone's life can be worth less than a cell phone, yet people get hit with bricks in the face for only the possibility of carrying a phone. I am sad for the state of this country.
