Due to the fact that Cycling South Africa (CSA) is not in a position to contribute towards the travel costs of riders that have been selected to compete at at the UCI World MTB Champs in Cairns, Australia, the selected athletes are required to self-fund the trip. The Western Province Mountain Biking Commission (WPMTBC) has decided to contribute R30 000 towards the WC cyclists’ costs to attend the World Champs and are offering cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to contribute as well, and stand a chance to win a SRAM Eagle GX upgrade kit sponsored by Cape Cycle Systems.   6. During the ‘spinning’ craze, power measuring bikes were unheard of and the only indication of how hard we’d worked was the size of our sweat pool at the end of a session. Tailoring workouts for different purposes wasn’t an issue, since it was generally assumed that the higher the heart rate or the bigger the sweat pool, the better the work out was. The spinning instructor was king (or queen) and what he (or she) said, went….. It was fun for some, but because of wide variations in individual needs or ambitions, not always right for everybody. Erik Kleinhans riding for Team Topek-Ergon, won the inaugural Amarider 100Miler in 2009 under extreme conditions, which forced more than 75% of entrants to abandon the race, 50% before the start. In 2016 he returned to take the title again, and this year he is back as firm favourite for his third Amarider 100 Miler.
