  1. Those discs should be amazeballs on the skinny bikes, but unless you go high spec aren't they going to add a ton?
  2. Yoh...2c I use counter steering as I bring it across from motorbiking. It's (in my opinion) only really effective due to the gyro effect of the front wheel when you destabilize it at higher speeds, and the bike turns due to the smaller diameter on the outside of the wheel. Not sure about the wheelbase argument, all my years at racing courses I've never come across it. Either or, still only forms a small part of the input to turn on a bicycle, and body position, bike lean angle etc are more important.
  3. Ok some nerdism - My Previous 2 94.7s where both 2:53s, looking at my avg VAM and correlating that to the VAM at higher gradients (which you will have this year since you have more climbing for the same distance) - at the same fitness level I'm likely to be 8mins slower on the new route putting me just outside the 3hr mark (bunch dependent of course). Did Emperor's in 2:40 this year so we'll see I guess....
  4. I think people are forever looking for a 'formula', but it's not that simple, it's a combination of factors. Saying this I'm on the far end of the athletically challenged scale, no natural ability whatsoever, but through determination and applying my mind I've reached a point where I do ok. I won't podium that I know. The ability to adapt is often an overlooked attribute, he who learns or adapts the fastest often wins. As for the DHers, the ability to process information is just as vital, visual to motor info, and the balance between nature vs nurture there depends on the plasticity of the brain.
  5. Fixed. But damn good point! Scary idea
  6. I like the clean look and feel, slap in a few profiles, maps, maybe a bit about the host town and it'll be world class.
  7. Thanks Rouxtjie for the entry, last minute call and I'm in for tomorrow! See you guys there!
  8. Jou hol. Sien jou more
  9. If you're around a gym with a wattbike, go give it a shot, the bike shows you pedaling efficiency for each leg, build up the muscle memory perhaps rather than purely trying to compensate using weights, cause vs symptoms you know. Nadal is not symmetrical and he seems to be doing ok
  10. Part of me do agree with you, cycling would be a full calendar sport if we had year round rivalries playing out, but though due to the brutal scale of the grand tours you have to understand that these guys simply can't put their bodies through all of these and expect to be competitive at each one. Cycling is a different sport to tennis or motor racing. You don't see guys doing a full calendar of comrades style races, it's just too intense. That said - perhaps the UCI should take a leaf from the Cricket T20 book. Cricket was dying, and the only way to revive the sport was to adapt and draw in the crowds by pitting the best of the best in chewable action packed episodes. The classics (one day races) are just that and should perhaps not be tickered with, but how about creating med-length stage races, say 5-7 days, that cover the great climbs throughout the world and the teams get points for a race win, presenting a annual 'series winner'. Cup style road racing

    MotoGP

Loved the race yesterday, on the edge of my seat from lap 1 to checkered flag! Big game mentality from Marques to sit with Jorge and plan the winning move, shows a good head and not just raw talent (which we know he has). Glad Jorge managed a solid ride, Dani was a bit disappointing but oh well
  12. Eish, hope you heal up, if it was just airway infections I'd go, but I'm feverish so not gonna take the chance.
  13. Jeez, we're dropping like flies. The flu has hit me big time , so my marathon entry is up for grabs. Pm me
  14. His facebook page still says he works there, but might just not be updated so you could be right, will have to wait until he's back from Mauritius in any case
  15. Jaco Ferreira at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria is probably the best bet. Otherwise - http://www.joefrielsblog.com/2011/05/the-30-minute-test-is-easy-really.html

  17. So it seems Monster doesn't count to our Saseeding index? I see Rooiberg is up there already....so that would be a tad disappointing
  18. About a 4/10 My 2011 Monster time = 4:44 My 2011 Diamond Rush time = 3:06
  19. Holy moly....anyone catch the number plate of that truck... Body definitely feels like I wrestled a Monster yesterday. But happy with my race, had a flat wheel but bombed it up and kept going, cramps all round from about 65km, but stopping the clock at 4:50 got my sub5 target. Well done guys and gals, crazy hard race!
