  1. Saris bones 2/3, depending on how many bikes u want to carry. Case closed.
  2. Ok, so i removed and cleaned the pedals, greased with q20 which Im told is a no go, so ill get some proper grease this week. Now, as far as I understand, this is how to remove the crank and BB (shimano hollowtech). 1. Loosen the bolts on the no drive side crank and remove the crank arm 2. Use a mallet to knock the crank out on the drive side 3. Using the appropriate tool, remove the non drive side of the BB 4. Now remove the drive side of the BB 5. Clean and grease the threads 6. Reinstall the BB, drive side first 7. Clean and grease the crank and inside of the BB 8. Push the crank through and put on the non drive side crank arm Last question, is it imperative to have a torque wrench to tighten the bolts n the non drive side crank arm?
  3. my phsyio told me its better to stretch once warm and the blood is flowing.
  4. I have a polar F6. My question is when I stop exercising, say to change a tube, and I move away from the unit (which is on my handlebar), it loses my hearbeat. It continues to time me until I stop it, just without the hearbeat value. So how do I get it to re-pick up me heart rate once it loses it for a period of time. Ive tried pausing the workout and then pushing continue but it does'nt work. Any ideas?
  5. I paid R9k for a brand new one. Its the blue one, 2008 with shimano STI's and deralieurs. But the one in your pic is the LTD. Mine is the normal peleton. Got 105 crank and brakes from a good mate who had some lying around. Bought a selle italia and mavic ksyrium elites for R5,5. So all in all R14,5k for a full carbon 105 bike.
  6. I hear Simon, and it must have sucked to be in his shoes of late due to all the nonsense thats been going on at NF. BUT...... Surely as a paying customer (which is what cyclists are to northern farm) you deserve a certain level of security and overall services. Dont get me wrong, we do need volunteers, but its not like the spruit where we depend on municipality to get things done. NF is a private business which is making good money off cyclists. It just feels like its their responsibility. There are other factors obviously, and overall I think volunteers would be a great idea. My 2 cents
  7. heres a question for the techies! How does the seeding work? Is it based on average speed or is it based on what time you clocked compared to the winning time?
  8. I emailed Wynand from cyclingnews to find out what the story is RE the distance and Racetec. His response was that they would update accordingly. What a good oke, second time he has gotten back to me with an informative answer! Good on him!
  9. no cadence............unfortunately
  10. To be honest, no I have'nt washed it yet. Ill try removing and cleaning/greasing up the pedals. Next up will be removing the crank to clean it and grease it. The click only happens under load.
  11. Thanks mutt. Any other suggestions?
  12. 16 views and no response? comon guys, just a wee bit of advice?
  13. Morning ya'll So yesterday I rode the emperors and noticed that my crank made a funny clicking/grinding type of noise when I got out the saddle to pedal, it sounds like this coming from the crank. Im a bit sick and tired of taking the bike to the LBS every time it needs some QT. So......I wanna try fix this myself. Besides getting the proper tools to remove the crank and BB any pointers as to what I could do to aleviate the problem? Any feedback is appreciated
  14. Its gotten out of hand. But the root cause needs to be determined, IE where do these bikes go? Has no one here been offered a second hand bike from a friend of a friend of a friend that fell off the back of a truck?? Personally I have'nt but there has to be a market for these things. There is a reason they started jacking them. And I dont beleive they all go to mox for R500 bucks. What about carrying pepper spray? I think it would work if the guy had a knife or screwdriver but you cant risk it with a gun, coz he could just pull the trigger. Overall, its all pretty scary and Im def moving to the cape next year!
  15. I have the ksyriums elites and I love em.
  16. MY experience is that a bunch of arrogant blokes who are only interested in helping you if you actually interested in buying something and are not browsing. I dont understand why they mark their products up so much and then drop the price 20% which is basically the SRP. Bunch of bloody crooks. Would much rather go to Achter at solomons in woodmead. Hes got just as much and he a good oke, who always gives a discount if u ask
  17. Ok heres my tip. I used to go to the late Reg Park for personal training up until he passed away almost 2 years ago. For those who have'nt heard of him he won Mr unvierse 3 times back in the 50's and 60's and was also the trainer of Aaaarnold. He acted as hercules in the movies. He had a crazy theory about calf muscles. Now plesae bear in mind that he had a knowledge about muscles second to none and used to do demostrations for anatomy students! So.... he said that calf muscles were particular tough to get anything out of, ie size and definition. Therefore they need to be worked harder, similar to his theory on biceps as well. He used to preapre a mixture of hot water and olive oil, and used to massage his calves with it at the end of every day. He said that they reacted better when he did this. As for excercises, seated and standing calf raises (4 sets of 20 reps as heavy as you can go). You can also do calf raises with a barbel on ur shoulders and do calf raises. hope this helps Check out www.regpark.net noche2010-02-04 01:24:32
  18. I just read an email about a guy who they attempted to jack on main road, he road off and they took a couple pot shots at him! Hit his juice bottle. I cant believe what this town is coming to. Im definately off to the cape next year. Screw the drop in pay, at least Ill be able to ride my bicycle in peace. But there is a lesson to be learned from E.T's experience.........we just CANNOT RIDE ALONE EVER EVER EVER EVER. Its become way too risky.
  19. hey mercystorm c u there in group GL
  20. Hi Guys, I just got off the phone to Wynand the race organiser. I sent him an email voicing my concerns RE the potholes, because I for one would rather not ride than G-D forbid fall and risk injuries. He responded by asking me for my phone number and gave me a ring personally (which I think was good on him!) He said a gent Mark Thys (who I dont know but several of you may) has a company called Tarmac and on Thurs he will drive the route and fill the potholes. Wynand is fully aware of the bad section when we turn left toward Tsakane (apparently 1km of potholes) and on JetPark road there is apparently 1 biggy. So big up on Wynan for phoning me personally and letting me know that he is aware and that they will be filled with tar on Thurs. This makes me alot more comfy as I was seriously considering canning the whole idea of racing. Have a good day.
  21. Ive entered this race and see I have a 06h50 start time. Is this even a good race? Never done it before and now Im unsure after reading all the comments on this thread! Thanks guys
  22. I was in a similar boat a few months ago. It was a choice between the conti mountain/race kings and the geax saguaro. The LBS mentioned that the conti's wore alot wuicker and for that reason I decided against them and went for the geax's. So far they have been fantastic, little rolling resistance even when on tar, great traction in the mud as well. So from my point of view Id go geax.
  23. Thanks for the advice. Anyone else care to share their thoughts?
  24. 10 views and no replies?
  25. Afternoon! Ive been riding MTB for a bit longer than a year now, and Im very keen to get a full susser. So far the bike that has caught my attention is the giant anthem x. From what I have read on the net in the form of reviews, is that its a great bike. No-one really had anything to complain about. Im planning on buying the frame and builidng it up as I have good components on my hardtail, and its more fun So my question is.........for anyone out their that may have a giant anthem, have you been happy with the ride, maintenance etc?? And for anyone who does'nt have an anthem, what bike would you recomend I get?? Cheers
