  1. Great good luck. If you need any help drop a mail to noched@gmail.com You gotta nip these thugs in the bud and give them the idea that Table Mountain is a no go for their antics, Hopefully they get the message.
  2. I agree, why spend 15k on wheels that you dont use more than a few times a year? (unless you loaded obviouly). There is also the argument for clincher vs tubular. IMHO clincher would be the way to go for a wheel that could be used both for training and for racing. But there are so many factors, carbon vs ali, tubular vs clincher, aero vs light weight Confusing!
  3. Hey Tony I was'nt at the Xterra in Buffels but I did 70.3 the week before. Let me tell you that my Xterra wetsuit was fantastic! Thanks for convincing me not to go sleeveless as the water was 14 degrees and the sleeveless guy were looking rather nervous at the start.
  4. Good afternoon I was born and bred in JHB and will be moving down to to Cape Town in the next 6 weeks, which will hopefully be permanantly as I've had it with this place (rant off). We have had the same experience here where these thugs basically took over a certain area in JHB called Northern Farm. It was a ''secure'' area where cyclists pay a nominal amount to ride around, but these guys were sneaking in and ambushing guys left right and centre. I think at times there may have been 3 hijackings on a weekend. The farm eventually had to take action and got a patrol company to patrol the farm and I think they have been somewhat sucessfull but not entirely. Now seeing as though Im moving South West, the thought of having to deal with more thugs is not really appealing to say the least. I understand the size of the area that has to be patrolled by the SAPS and it is by no means an easy task. I would recommend that a meeting be setup with the PPA to voice the concern and then maybe with their backing a meeting could arranged with SAN PArks and the SAPS? One thing I have noticed on my visits to Cape Town is the police presence and their willingness to rid the city of crime. You can in no way compare them to the monkeys we have running the show up here, so they would be IMHO the best place to start. what you think?
  5. Hey guys Anyone doing this race on Sunday? Entries are closing soon and Im in 2 minds about it.
  6. All these 29er fans must get off their high horse and just ride their bikes for the enjoyment and not for 26er bashing. Like has been said above the bottom line is you have to pedal it anyways, and going to an extra spinning class and cutting out pizza will do more for most of us mere mortals than a 29 inch wheel. For someone like Kevin and Burry who are at the pinnacle of the sport, any advantage will help and is justifiable. Even if it faster, how much difference would it make to a guy like me who is just trying to keep fit and have a good time.
  7. agreed if the bank can confirm or the money is in your account wish him happy riding
  8. Solomons cycles in woodmead achtar is a ledge!
  9. The merida is more of a trail setup whereas the scott is a XC racer. So in that respect they pretty different and you would need to decide on the type of riding you will be doing. But the thing I always say is go for the one which talks to you. The one which you love to look at and the sight of it just wants to make your ride. Those 2 bikes are neck and neck IMHO
  10. Also very interested to see the response to this. Bikes in the USA are ridiculously cheaper
  11. They are noisy but I think its a cool noise, kinda like a V8 Also what about zipp 303's? They seem to have a decent rim profile and may be longer lasting than the 404's. But, do you want aero wheels or light wheels? Because if you want really light wheels then there are alot of other options. Personally Id go for the 404's or the mavics, but if you want light, then something like kysyrium sl's
  12. The mavic cosmic carbones are pretty sweet. I dont think your weight will be an issue with those. Also they come in clincher which for my money is the better all round wheel. They are pricey though.
  13. Also would have to loved to ride. Sounds like an awesome route. Ill be in East London for 70.3
  14. Why you guys all leaving? Aus is K@k
  15. Thanks for all the advice. Off to the garage
  16. Well im not going to drill a hole in it. What do you suggest?
  17. Ive left it upside down for the past half hour or so and most seems to be out through the headset. Not ideal by no means, but hey better out than in as I always say.
  18. So as you all know JHB has been rather wet of late. So yesterday on our ride through the cradle @ about the half way point the heavens opened and left us a pleasant 30k's or so of terrential rain. Fun! I lifted the bike of the wall rack tonight and heard the sound of water in the frame. So.... Is this bad? I thought of removing the seatpost but I dont have a torque wrench and Im too scared to tighten the seatclamp without one.
  19. Well done to the pathetic and corrupt SAPS. I know there may be a few good ones, but they outweighed by the incompetnt corrupt swines. My blood pressure was increasing just reading that. I can only imagine how furious those guys must have been.

  22. Ive done 3 tri's in normal road shoes. The major drawback of a normal road shoes IMHO for tri 1. Difficult to put on at speed 2. Generally have to wear socks 3. Cant really run in them coz of the carbon/plastic bottom Just make sure you are organised in transition and it should'nt be a problem. Running in and out of transition has always been the major drawback for me in cycling shoes, but if you look at the pros they leave the shoes in the pedals and run barefoot. I did that in sun city, as soon as I got into the dismount area I spent 30 seconds and took them off and ran with bike in one hand, shoes in another. Worked fine.
  23. find urself a 200m hill and slap on ur running shoes Blast it up 5 times as hard as you can go and remember the max reading. That is your max heart rate. The formula was originally desinged for people recovering from heart surgery and is nothing more than a guide. Everyone is different so one cannot use a formula.
