  1. I said it in the ''carnage in the cradle'' post but Ill say it again Its all as a result of everyone disrespecting each other, cyclists do what they like, motorists do what they like. Until people learn to respect one another and uphold the laws then you gonna have this prob for the rest of time.
  2. What a bunch of tossers. Ive almost been taken out there once by a Mitusbishi Colt 4*4, would have preferred drawing pins in my tyres to be honest. That car was just too damn close, can still feel the heat of that engine! It comes down to respect, no one seems to respect each other, be it cyclists or motorists, everyone just seems to think that the world was desgined for them and no one else. Pretty much just a reflection of what the world has become, its all about the indiviual. People cannot empathise with one another, or can they feel happy for someone. Sad. IMHO

    bike setup

There was a clip on a duesouth xterra episode last week which mentioned bike setup. 3 key factors 1. you want your seat to be high enough that at the bottom of the pedal stroke there is a bend in your knee, apparently 27 degrees. 2. You want the angle between your torso and your arms to be 90 degress when fully extended on the bars. for a road bike, i think you must be on the hoods 3. if you drop a plumb line from your knee when in the 3 and 0 oclock position, the weight at the bottom should appear as if it goes through the pedals axle hope this help
  4. Interesting thread. I have had this debate with my riding partner and some friends recently. A friend of mine who is an avid runner bought an HRM to improve his performance. Anyways cut a long story short he noticed that his heart rate was through the roof even when he was not exerting himself very much. So off he went to the GP who said its high, and then to the cardiologist for a check up. The cardio said to him that he gets at least 2 people a week coming in to his office who have just purchased a HRM, and are freaked out because their MAX HR does'nt agree to the one per the formula. He said that in a nutshell, everyone is different in size shape and form, and therefore one cannot apply a formula to determine a MAX HR, it needs to be done based on max exertion. My riding partner and I are the same age, however im 6ft and he is about 6ft6. How on earth could we eve have the same MAX HR based on a formula? Also, if you research the formula method on the net you will see that it was desgined for patients recovering from heart surgery back in the 60's so as not to over exert them. In summary, we are all different and the formula, while a guidline, is inaccurate. If you want to determine your max heart rate, find a hill in your area, roughly 500m long and give it horns up the hill. do this 5 times and see what you max at. That will give you a better indication of you MAX HR than the formula. It is important that people determine their max HR correclty, because HR training is hugely valuable for the average Joe (myself) who does'nt want to go get VO2 tested and bla bla bla.
  5. Big up on the brake pads and the spokes. Yes the multitool has a chainbreaker Have the UST valve already

Cable ties Duct tape Pocket knife Multi tool Tyre levers bombs and hand pump Puncture repair kit Gators All I can think of for now. Any advice or comment would be welcome and appreciated.

  8. thank you! at least there are some people who have value to add
  9. another bit of sarcasm. You guys are the best!
  10. Hi there Any advice would be muchly appreciated. Myself and a mate are entered for the kalahari challenge at the end of July roughly 1 months time. Any advice on how we should train? At the moment we doing about 7-8 hours a weekend Not sure how much/little we should be doing Thanks!
  11. Indoor trainers do tend to eat normal tyres. Most guys use a training tyre which is a hrder compund, and is usually orange in colour to differentiate.
  12. Here is what to do, I had the same problem 1. Loosen all the bolts on the stem and the headset 2. Tighten the headset bolt first (the one on the top), this pulls the fork up and into the headset 3. Then tighten the bolts on the stem after making sure your bar is straight
  13. There was a book written called ''dont run'' or something like that. Basically it was saying that the second you run away from an animal it thinks you are 'food' and hence chases you. I find the best thing to do is slow down and scream and shout at the thing. Eventually it gets the idea and buzzes off. Ok if its a pitbull u in for k@k, but for the most part Ive found that by not running and looking it in the eyes and screaming at it works!

    Degreaser

Red hot products make a degreaser that will remove chrome from a tow bar!! Its not the most environmentally friendly stuff, but hell it works a charm!
  16. IMHO Try be as cautious as you can. Personally I think riding alone outside NF is reckless given the incidents of late. I think the spruit during busy hours like sat and sun mornings is fine, although I would'nt do it alone (you should never ride alone anyways). Else, join a club and ride with the larger groups
  17. Im just so upset I cant see the pic of the b@stards dead!! Joe Louw - you are a retard. The fact that some guy managed to kill 2 of the blokes is an absolute miracle and he is nothing short of a hero. These criminals are destroying our country and my home and are forcing people to leave and families to be split up. Yes its harsh, but its also harsh when one of these @ssholes rocks up with a gun and expects you to hand over what you have worked so damn hard for, and because he is underprivledged he thinks he has a right to steal it. These no good, no tax paying @ssholes should stop whining and have a look at living conditions in a place like India where people take a cr@p on the street. If that were the case there is reason to complain. They live in townships and get water, elec and some type of sewerage system for free, mahala!!! We all pay for that with our taxes. So in conclusion, stop being such a toss and join me in toasting to the hero from Benoni!!! GOOD SHOT!
  18. anyone keen on a spruit or bike park this afternoon??
  19. who the hell do those @ssholes think they are. Its like a different form of tax! They should try paying some bloody tax for a change and actually contributing to society in some way, other than just leeching off everyone else!
  20. Ok that sounds much better. Get the SLR's, whats a few more hundred when you spending so much. I have a 100mm fox on mine, but I hear you can put a 120mm on so that should work fine. Other than that great soudning build!!
  21. I did'nt want to say it, but I got a better spec than a stylo crank and never paid R40k I think rushsports is a good bet. Give Andre a call, hes a champ!
  22. You wont regret it. The zula is king and its proudly south african
  23. I was faced with a similar dilema that you are faced with. I spoke to severall people and in the end I decided to steer clear of the carbon. I too weigh between 88 & 90, and I had heard too many horror stories of cracked frames etc etc. I decided to therefore go with the zula, and can honestly say that I made the best decision. The bike is really light, and for the few hundred grams of saved weight, is not worth a potential crack to the carbon. The zula is a fantastic ride and you wont regret it
