  1. Thanks How long should I be looking at? I've done both 70.3 in +- 6hrs Probably best just to go out there and have a jol and forget about the damn clock!
  2. Just entered the Grabouw event. Decided to do the full. Never done an Xterra before but have done several tri's and 2 70.3's Any tips for the Xterra virgin?
  3. Agreed! Only problem with riding them all the time is you doing yourself an injustice as they lighter and improve performance. Thus training with heavier trainers is better. It does suck though that I use training wheels and have these beauties in the garage waiting for races or long rides. Another downside is that the swisstop brake pads dont last very long and they aint cheap!
  4. Not my experience with the 404 FC's Do your research on them then come back and slate.
  5. What he said +1 I also have the 404 FC's and I seriosuly cannot feel that much more of a difference when comparing them to my training wheels which are cosmic elites. Do yourself a favour and watch the Zipp videos on youtube where they explain the design process and what makes them firstly the best wheels out there and secondly very predictable in the wind. Every review I have read on them, the reviewer says that crosswinds are very predictable and manageable which I would 100% agree with.
  6. Get a selle italia max flite gel flow. They also have a new model with an even bigger cut out. Will increase bloodflow to your manly bits and prevent numbness
  7. TIA unfortunately. I've been into shops wanting to buy something with cash in hand and I cant get service or attention. Get in touch with specialized in the USA. That's your best bet for sure.
  8. Try bike migration. I used them for 70.3 last year and they were decent. I know they do Argus. Shouldn't be more than R700 or so. Alternatively Google a company called focus on the finish line and speak to Paul or Kelly Kaye. I used them now for 70.3 and they are possibly the most organised bunch I have ever dealt with. I am collecting my bike this afternoon and if its all intact then possibly will change to definitely. I would 100% use a transport company and NOT and airline. Remember you and 30 000 other guys are trying to get your bikes onto the plane and what happens is that the hold becomes too full and they leave bikes behind and play catch up for a day or two. The result is best described as stressful. I saw this at 70.3 last year as well as Argus. Airlines can't cope with that much extra. Oh one last thing. Mango and SAA who usually allow a 20kg sporting allowance retract this offer over the crazy periods IE Argus and 94.7, thus you going to be paying for your bike regardless.
  9. Easy there strawberry mama. No need to get hostile. I am not the spelling police, just thought I would rev you slightly Seems to have worked On a serious note. Service in RSA is generally pretty poor. I wasn't trying to be facetious, but if you don't buy something from a store they typically are not inclined to help you regardless of the brand in question. Yes I agree that that is bullsh1t, but unfortunately its the truth. Think about it, its a lot of work for no money because the store has to phone the agents, fill out paperwork, and then the agents generally replace the broken part. This in turn equals no revenue for the shop. They should do it gladly, but alas.To add to that the fact that you bought it, or were given it from the USA further compounds the problem. I would still email the USA head office and ask them how they intend to fix the problem. In some instances the overseas suppliers will contact a store here and inform them to help you out. Search for a thread on morningside cycles who are the agents for yeti. You will catch my drift. Lastly phone the store back who you tried to go through and get the owners details. Then give him/her a ring and tell them politely that if they spend millions on a shop, the least you can do is train their dumb@ss staff a little. Also the owner will know a helluva lot more than the guy working the counter.
  10. Firstly your spelling is off...............road not raod Secondly I wouldn't help you either if you firstly never bought the helmet from my store and secondly never bought it in RSA. They should have however listened to all the facts and advised you accordingly even if the advice was to go speak to the USA as its effectively a grey import. Unfortunately that is the world and country we live in. If I were you I would do as suggested above and send a mail to USA explaining what happened and see what they say. It really sucks coz those helmets are R2.5k new assuming its the s-works.
  11. I would think heat would make a tyre softer and more pliable. Think about F1 where they heat the tyres up with those blankets, so they come up to optimal heat more quickly which increases the grip. That being said old age is old age and your tyre may just be overs.
  12. Agreed Its he end of January and their website still has the 2011 bikes on it. That is just ridiculous and inexcusable given the competitive nature of the manufacturing market.
  13. Drooooooooooooooool There is my new wishlist. Would love to get my hands on that HT. Looks super sweet. The guy is seriously dialed in on geometry.

Well dissected. I was 1 minute slower despite putting in a lot of effort into my swimming over the last year. Several of my mates were also slower than previous years and also put in a ton of training. I did the clifton mile a few weeks ago in roughly 8 minutes less than 70.3. There is no way that it takes me 8 minutes to swim 300m. I am not that slow. Seems like the only explanation is that the swim route was slightly longer than 1900. Notwithstanding the above, it was a great day out and I have already entered for next year. I think the organisers have to increase the number of waves. That swim start for wave 2 was ridiculous. What was going on around buoy 1 was insane. I am not saying that it wont happen in a smaller wave, but when 1100 competitive souls rush toward one turn its a recipe for disaster. I think one guy popped his shoulder at the turn and that was his day over. If their main concern is safety, then they really need to reconsider the number of waves, because wave 2 was far from safe IMHO.

Must agree with the drafting comments. At times it felt as If I was riding a bike race the groups were so big. I think we should be allowed to use both lanes, that way less people will draft. Yes its an issue with emergency vehicles and ref's who use the right hand lane, but they can hoot or something for the cyclist to get out the way. There is no other way aroundit as the numbers are too large.

My day had some serious mixed emotions S - 33:13 B - 2:58:08 R - 2:15:10 T1 - 28:18 T2: 2:59 Total - 6:17:48 To put the T1 time into perspective, 3k's into my ride I realized my timing chip was gone! Needless to say I freaked out and turned around back to transition to collect a new chip and carry on. That cost me probably 25mins plus quite a bit of extra energy to get back, run around transition like a headless chicken looking for my bag, then run down to the swim start to get a new chip and run back up that transition hill to get back to my bike. Ended up pushing a bit too hard on the ride to make up for it and BLEW on the run. That being said, if I discount the f$#% up of losing my chip, I bettered last year's time albeit by a few minutes. Things I learnt 1. Even your c..k needs antichafe cream. 2. Its possible to ride the bike leg without a timing chip and to get a new one when you get back to transition 3. A great race strategy (learnt it on the second lap of the run) is to run from waterpoint to waterpoint. Much easier chunks to manage. 4. Full Ironman is for the crazy and the unloved All in all, it was a great event and I had an absolute jol. Will definitely be back next year and Ill place a ton of emphasis on my running.
  18. Road cycling in JHB is a big no no in my mind. Too many cars and too many aggressive a..holes behind the wheels. Unless you stick to "safer" areas such as the cradle or ride in big groups where cars are forced to slow down and drive carefully. Riding in groups of 2 or 3 is asking for trouble. This is so damn sad. The poor family that has been left behind.
  19. TIA In Europe cars will wait behind a cyclist for a few k's until its safe to overtake. If you knock a cyclist down, you might as well walk the plank because its game over for you. When will people wake up and realize that an extra 10 seconds is not gonna make a difference in your life. Have some damn patience and drive according to the rules of the road. If everyone just obeyed the rules then we wouldn't have such an issue. That is also two fold because cyclists are the own worst enemies in that sense.
  20. Camps bay is the dodgiest part of any ride heading out toward Hout Bay or coming back. I generally ride like an ass through there and stick in the middle of the road and only move if a car is behind me. It the only way to prevent slamming into a driver opening their door or someone pulling out of a parking. Hope he heals up quick.

Thanks Stevie L. Great report barring the damn water temperature. Lucky I did the Clifton Mile on New years day to get in some cold water practice that was 10deg and it was pretty scary. Wow, I'm getting nervous now!!!
