  1. Today had the dreaded creak sneak up on my lovely cotic. Turned out to be my right pedal. Needed cleaning and regreasing the tread and tightening. Flippen hate a creak. Another thing I started appreciating more and more. Full fenders. Looks like you're stuck in Holland in the 1940s but my socks are always dry. Oh yes. Waterbottle grit free. Amazingly even my drivetrain remains squeaky clean. The marathon plus tyres are still holding strong. Despite my best attempts to ride them in gutters and glass shard patches. What chain lube do you guys use?
  2. Haha! Really not much of a climb. Takes 4 minutes for the first bit an 2minutes for the one after Welgemoed primary. In the right gear it really doesn't matter and is a lot faster. And yes. I shower at work. Can't work sweatyballs.
  3. Probably the heaviest rider here. 115 when I have 15% body fat. Rode plenty tyres. Slashed plenty tyres. Snake bite even more. For rear my future tyre will be the assegai 2.5 with DH casing. I find that the side walls on the rear get way to mushy even at 2.5bar when pushing through corner exits. Burped my aggressor 2.5 with thick foamo on melow descents like cobra/hoogies. The exo casing also hasn't impressed me. Sure its light. But 3 of my riding buddies have torn brand new aggressors exo casings to shreds with mundane trail riding in the last 2months. Mostly snake bites (through foamo and proper pressure). When plugging the side wall you can feel the toiletpaper it is made of. One of my more experienced buddies swears by schwalbe super gravity casing. And he rides about as ridiculous as one can down the rockiest stuff. Front tyre. Meh. Very dependant on your cornering. Die muishond rides on an ikon up front most of the year but he simply weights himself perfectly around corners. I have a shorty 2.5 up front and it is OK. Ie it rides as well as I push it. Which isn't very far. Flats are part of the sport but are super annoying. Would love to give a run flat system a go. For now. Heavy thick casings made of durable rubber. Oh ja. Spez seems to have their sh#t together. Those grid casings are really sturdy. And the new gripton compound ain't no hype. Go fondle some tyres next time you walk past one of their stores. Dream tyre I'm waiting for... Onza citius 2.4 in 29er.
  4. Bellville Central. Straightline along jip de jager.
  5. Bellville Central.
  6. Got caught in the rain today. Luckily I've kitted my bike with full sks bluemels. Arrived ever so slightly damp. Must have passed 50 cars since kicking off in D'urbanvale. I really love commuting.
  7. XD
  8. All I read was "kumbaya". Perfect!
  9. Let's all take a turn to say something positive about the club. I'll go first. I love it. Probably the reason I haven't moved back to Somerset West. Also. Thermophage looks great in his tight little neon orange pant.
  10. Bod! No man! Read between the rugged lines. Thermopoesiles is just a passionate mtber. He stands for progression. Sure he is uncensored. But I can assure you. There is no ill intent. Him and Patrick get along well IRL. Despite what it may look like on paper. That's just what it is. Too much inferred emotion in what is read. Too much online offendedness.
  11. Bravo chavo. I'm with thermopiles here. In fact. I believe if Patrick was given free reign (no pun intended) he would build the trails with technically progressive features as mentioned by thermopoefiles. Patrick unfortunately has to do a shed load of work maintaining the existing trails and won't always be able to get to everyone. It's a lot more work to maintain a bermed and plastered trail than a heap of rocks (read ezel stage 4). I also believe going 40km/h down paved singletrack is way more dangerous than picking your lines at 20km/h down revised rock garden on conties black.
  12. Probably one of the most uncomfortable temperatures I've ridden in ever. Rather do ezel than this. No really. Ezel makes you tired. This just made me so unbelievably uncomfortable.
  13. I'm done with tubeless for commuting for now. Had 40c tubeless gravel setup. At those pressures (4-5bar)and the flexible casing, I had many cuts that wouldn't seal. A complete mess to repair properly. Gone to smartguard with tubes and 38c. Day 2 so far on the new setup. Feels fast and ever so slightly more bumpy. But worth the peace of mind.
  14. Love some tunes on mtb. Please don't roadride with earphones in. It's unsafe and illegal.
  15. Just got all my online shopping today. Taking so long has its benefits. You kinda forget what you've ordered. Like happy birthday to meeee
  16. Dunno man. Those toppies like Julian/Rupert/Matt/Cuan/Nilson etc are all pretty slow.
  17. Ai dude! So sorry. Hope you recover quick. Narrowly avoided a low speed collision myself with school mom this am. In her defence, it's fkkn crazy around schools... Not to mention a ballistic toddler in the back seat.
  18. Things I've learnt today. Never trail behind a mtb (on gravel) if you're on a gravel setup. You end up hammering into sharp rocks that you'd otherwise miss. On a side note. Anyone have a bombproof 38x700 setup for gravel and south african pavement? Thinking marathon plus. Maybe go tubeless again but I found that tyres at gravel bike pressures (4bar) end up not sealing so well and need a patch anyways and the tyre gets brutal cuts due to the hardness of the interacting surfaces. (tyre and tar). Suggestions please before I checkout my crc trolley.
  19. Cool thread. This morning I learned something that I always assumed. Doesn't matter how bright your clothing and lights are... Consider yourself invisible. Was cycling down jip de Jager this AM when a fudgenugget decided to quickly switch lanes and swerve into the yellow during the process. Didn't even indicate. Luckily I'm on a gravel bike with some lekker stoppers. Came to a stop next to him with my front wheel already on the sidewalk. Gave him the good ol "you almost killed me" look. Good to see other car occupants giving him a hard time after that. Plenty capetonian roadrage going around.
  20. Ask you GP about carbemazepine. You don't want to develop post shingles neuralgia. Feels like someone pouring boiling water and pop rocks over the area that was affected.
  21. Good news. Don't have tb. Bad news (not that bad) I have the dreaded post viral chronic rhinitis with post nasal drip. At least treatment is easy and effective. Started commuting today again. Felt like I was riding uphill even on the flats.
  22. Have we met? Could this be love?
  23. Lol. I hardly see myself as chaff Mr wheat. I enjoyed this sorting process regardless. I look forward to basking in the gleam of your huskless steeze.
  24. Hahaha! Guilty as charged! Ss4 was just lekker long. Didn't feel like suffering too much. More an endurance thing than tech I must admit. I blame primarily laziness for lack of training but my "office job" is quite the challenge on the easiest of days. As for dingleberries. I don't see myself cleaning that any time soon. All about risk reward. Risk (ie broken scaphoid and potential loss of legit qualification skillset) in this case outweighed reward. I'll pack my hiking boots next time.
  25. Some tar and nice big berms would be amazing. Something I can ride on a 50mm dual sus.
