  1. I like the plank idea.
  2. Following. (not there yet myself, but investing in a light weight build with juicy tyres and decent brakes is important. Hell, even a custom build jobbie may do the trick)
  3. Reason I went full length is to truly prevent my bb becoming a fountain of nastiness, feeding my cranks alternatingly to enschloppen my shoes.
  4. Used crc ja. Wasn't too long. 2weeks I think. Skynet is unpredictable though. I hope they go back to DHL.
  5. https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/za/en/sks/mudguards And sure. They don't look great. But this is my comnuter bike. It must get me to work dry and on time and bonus if that is in a good mood (always is).
  6. Just full length mudguards on my gravel bike (cotic escapade). Keeps the spray in the wheelwells and not down your backside, bb, crank, face etc. Clean drizzle from the top is not the least bit distracting. Kinda nice really. It's usually the ocean of filty streetwater in your shoes/down your back/into your mouth that ruins a drizzle commute.
  7. Bit late. But did the Tuesday drizzle commute. The SKS bluemels I put on a while back kept me nice and dry. Honestly don't know why it took me so long to get them.
  8. Not the worst country in the world. Outside is free.
  9. I feel a video challenge, no?
  10. Also. Last year my question was whether the schwalbe marathon plus tyres are worth the extra weight/rolling resistance. In short. Yes. Think I'd have more luck puncturing permatubes.
  11. Really enjoying this year's commute so far. Kiddie is now going to preschool about 2km from my house en route to work. Wife (with car) drops him off with fevastar seat and helmet for me to pick him up after work on my way back. 2y olds aren't the best storytellers...but damn he gets excited to give me the lowdown theretin front on his yellow foam throne. Best 5min of my day. Everyday.
  12. Was curious. Tried the finish line one for a bit. Curiosity definitely killed that cat. Die Muishond (look it up) is one of the more ridiculous riders out there and I've seen it use sludge sealant. The one with the rhino on the bottle. A complete screw up to work with... Thats just it. You never open that tyre until the tread is slick. Which is about a week for muishond.
  13. Schwalbe marathon plus. The tyre of choice for the pseudo-developed country. I sometimes literally aim for the glass just to see how little it does. Unfortunately my boss knows bike tyres... The excuse "I got a puncture" isn't gonna fly when I rock these bad boys.
  14. I'd support Lyne without hesitation. Great support from Dayle.
  15. For now... I'm drooling over the new Goodyear tyres coming out.
  16. Running e13 trs rims. Swap tyres regularly. Never have issues. My prep game is strong. But I suspect not strong enough. Pitty. The compound and grip of the der kaiser project was simply put... INSANE. When you pick up the tyre in its packaging you can tell this has potential. I'd say try it. On the rear first. Prep well. Hopefully you get a non-wonky casing. I'd buy again in a heartbeat if they sort the bead/casing/volume out. Zee Germans are after all uber alle.
  17. Good to know. I'll keep them then for oneday when I want to do a longer race/ride. Maybe when n+1 comes along.
  18. It's Friday! I forgot to say something provocative. *clears throat* "SHITMANO BRAKE FANBOIZ ARE THE ANTIVAXXERS OF THE MTB COMPONENT WORLD"
  19. So. Schoolfees this week. Not ashamed. I try some things. Knowing the risks. Tried continentals on special. Der baron project front. Der kaiser back. 29erx2.4 both. Look absolutely epic in the flesh. Especially the Der kaiser. The rubber compound feels super grippy and durable. Black chilli is no lie. It rolls and grips like it shouldn't. Zee Germans have something there. Aaaaand that's where the amazeballness ends. Kaiser mounted up scew from the start. Checked and rechecked and reinflated...casing/bead was wonky. Baron mounted up just fine. Unfortunately a sorry excuse for a 2.4. Like seeing etzebeth with size 7 feet. Next day at meerendal (because I'm in a fitness and spin mindset) 2km in. Kaboom. Rear completely blown off rim. Didn't make too much of it. Must've been a poor seat. Redid it. 2bar. Accurate pressure check. Around first mild corner on wheatfields. Kaboom. Again. Took it back to the shop. Very helpful guy. Installed a new one. Right there. No questions asked. Kaboom. Sommer in the shop. Exchanged for a cross king. Not appropriate really for my riding. My feeling is the bead and casing tolerances are off. Should be OK with tubes. But this is 2018. Doing shuttle day tomorrow. Unfortunately not risking my biscuit on a dh track. Old tyres back on. I'll probably list them for cheap on le hub. (the non kaboom baron and crossking). I'm keen to give schwalbe MM a go as well as the new maxxis ass-guy. Dh rear. Exo front. (once it arrives.)
  20. Started off as extra workout time "for free". Fitness benefits became apparent. Now I like riding my drop bar bike just for the heck of it. I used to only enjoy mtb. Takes about the same time as in a car...but the car seldomly cures the occasional foul mood.
  21. Explaining modulation to someone one shimano is like explaining colour to a blind man.
  22. Geez. For 6k you could have bought some sick hope brakes. Ive gone the shitmano route for the last four years. Stop when you pull. No real modulation if you compare it to hope/trp/code. Eventually listened to some of my mouthy friends. I should have bought hopes long ago. Also. Any colour you want... Except green.
  23. Today had the dreaded creak sneak up on my lovely cotic. Turned out to be my right pedal. Needed cleaning and regreasing the tread and tightening. Flippen hate a creak. Another thing I started appreciating more and more. Full fenders. Looks like you're stuck in Holland in the 1940s but my socks are always dry. Oh yes. Waterbottle grit free. Amazingly even my drivetrain remains squeaky clean. The marathon plus tyres are still holding strong. Despite my best attempts to ride them in gutters and glass shard patches. What chain lube do you guys use?
  24. Haha! Really not much of a climb. Takes 4 minutes for the first bit an 2minutes for the one after Welgemoed primary. In the right gear it really doesn't matter and is a lot faster. And yes. I shower at work. Can't work sweatyballs.
